Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now. I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a command which works with winXX boxes, but

AutoCad 2004, Samba 3.0.11 & file locking issues
Sorry for such a long post as my first to the list, but in an effort to forego a long back and forth question/answer session via email, I think if I post all the information that I currently have someone may be able to more quickly spot my issue. The server in question is a Gentoo server running Samba 3.0.11. The basic problem is that when person A opens an AutoCad file, person B is unable to

Samba lock X Unix fcntl() lock
Hi I look at list archives and at samba docs but I did not found ... please can some one help me? I intend to use fcntl() function to check and set the locks. I wrote a test program to see if the fcntl() function can see the samba locks

samba 2.2.7a and multiple logins...
Hello I use a new samba server with LDAP support as PDC for some Windows2000 and WindowsXP machines. All is working nice. The useer can login with a user/password in the domain, we have remote profiles, the user can access the samba shares and print etc. But after some time (< 1 day) we get a smbstatus output like the attached file. Users are connected multiple times with the same share

AutoCAD R14 and SAMBA 1.9.18pl8
Hello, We've had serious performance problems loading AutoCAD R14 .dwg files from a VAResearch VArServer 3000 (dual 400MHz PII, Red Hat 5.0, SAMBA 1.9.17p4, 256MB RAM, 36GB RAID5). The problem is that on first access, trying to read the .dwg file is very, very slow -- a 10MB .dwg file loaded from an NT4.0sp3 server using a win95 station using AutoCAD R14 and SoftDesk AutoArchitect takes in

One of the primary applications requires update farily recently as of late and the admin is having problems getting all files

Locking for Linux/WinXP clients (-or- CIFS issues)
Hi... I've been running samba 3.0 for quite some time now (Debian's stable version, currently 3.0.14) and I've had no problems. That's probably been because all my clients were Windows XP boxes. I've now moved several users to Linux (Ubuntu Breezy) as their desktop and I've noticed there seems to be a problem in accessing files across the platforms. If a Linux box

smbd -D processes spawn out of control
All, I'm running the latest stable version of SerNet-Samba on a Debian Sarge box (I switched from the traditional Samba package for certain reasons which I won't delve into here), but I've come across a serious issue. Every day, the Samba processes become so numerous that the server begins acting really flaky. That is to say, there are so many smbd -D processes that the server

NAS and 2 active Samba servers / locking not working
Hi, I have one NAS which I can access via NFS or Samba. This storage is accessed by 2 linux servers with Samba where I re-export the NAS share. This is sort of an active/active loadbalancing cluster. The only thing not working is locking... If a client opens a Word-File via server1 and another opens the same via server2 it won't inform the user that he can only open the file readonly. I was

SOLVED! Problem saving AutoCAD files
Hi folks, hi Tom I found the problem. Originally I did a 'chmod -R 1777 root:root /home'. This prevents users other than owner to delete files on the subdirs like my "condivisione" (see smb.inf below). Because the saving operation of autoCAD .dwg files involves several steps of create-rename-delete temporary file before save THE .dwg file, permissions "1777" avoid the

Strange locking behaviour upsets Apache
We have a server which runs Samba and Apache. Web developers edit their files (via Windows mapped drives) from Windows XP SP2. These files are typically CGI files and the developers' routine is: while (web page not quite right) { 1. Edit file 2. Save 3. Click Reload on web browser 4. Check results } They go around that loop many times during a typical development run.

Samba client file locking
Hello, I am trying to work out the file locking mechanism on our Samba server when connecting from Linux clients. I am getting some strange behaviour in a mixed Linux/Windows environment when multiple clients open/lock the same file for writing. Everything seems fine when a Windows client creates the lock, but if a Linux client creates the lock, we get either two or more Linux clients being able

smbfs not showing all files
I've a PC with a 2.2.13 kernel and Samba 2.0.7. It serves shares to our lan and has had no problems since its install. Recently, I tried to copy a bunch of files from an older OS/2 server to the Samba server via smbclient and smbmount. Neither shows all the files in a few of the several directories on the OS/2 server, and neither agrees with the other as to the actual number of files.

Request for AutoCAD help with Samba server!
Hi everyone, If you have experience using Samba < 2.0.7 with AutoCAD 2000/2000i or R14 on a LAN, where the Windows 2000 Professional clients running AutoCAD 2000/2000i are opening .dwg files and XREFS off of the server, particularly if you know tips on tuning Samba's performance so that AutoCAD reports it can't find files on the server or load XREFs, please either post your comments to
