Zlib plugin - when does it make sense?
Hi,
I run a small IMAP server for a dozen guys in the office, serving about
55GB of Maildir. I recently became aware of the Zlib plugin (
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/Plugins/Zlib ) and wondered
1. given that there is about zero CPU load on my IMAP server, is
enabling the plugin a no-brainer or are there other things (except CPU
load) to consider?
2. For enabling the plugin, I suppose you

Problem on displaying groupquota info
Gentleman,
I have samba-3.0.25a working on a FreeBSD6.2 server.
It was been compiled with-quota support.
It was supposed to be working well with userquota and groupquota. Actually
it is ok with userquotas. But it is passing wrong information about
groupquota.
On the server, 'quota -g sti' shows
Disk quotas for group sti (gid 1001):

Testing memory limits in R??
Hello Everyone,
We have recently purchased a server which has 64GB of memory running
a 64bit OS and I have compiled R from source with the following config

--enable-BLAS-shlib --enable-shared --with-readline --with-iconv

Hello All
I used to back up a Mssql database (about 55GB) to a samba share without
any problems. The samba server "Server-A" was running version 3.4.7
We just got one of those "Netgear ReadyNas3200" things and I tried to
backup up to a share there which sometimes works and sometimes not in
wich case I get the following error:

I successfully did my first FreeBSD upgrade yesterday after looking at the manual, and cross referencing with Googling and getting help from our network engineer here at CWU. Before the upgrade, running df showed:

ZFS userquota groupquota test
I have been playing around with osol-nv-b114 version, and the ZFS user
and group quotas.
First of all, it is fantastic. Thank you all! (Sun, Ahrens and anyone
else involved).
I''m currently copying over one of the smaller user areas, and setting up
their quotas, so I have yet to start large scale testing. But the
initial work is very promising. (Just 90G data, 341694 accounts)

ext3 tuning parameters. what are they
When memory is low, ext3 gets a bit sluggish cursor getting jumpy etc. I
say ext3 because I don't see a similar behavior with ext2. What are the
ext3 tuning variables that I can try? For example, I see a message like
"commit interval 5 seconds" in /var/log/dmesg.

Check permissions on share
Hi!
I wonder if there is som easy way to determine the permissions for a
specific user on a share?
Parsing smbcacls is the only solutions I can come up with right now
but its not pretty!
Thanks

I'm using both Solaris and FreeBSD quite extensively and, honestly,
have never heard of that assumption. In fact, on the machine that I'm
currently typing this message on, the file systems look like this:
# uname -sr; mount -t ufs
FreeBSD 10.1-RELEASE
/dev/da0s1a on / (ufs, local,

mismatching vinum configurations
Hi,
I had a power failure, and the on-disk configuration for vinum went
bizarre. The logs read from disks are at http://biaix.org/pk/debug/
(log.$DEVICE files). The logs in da0 (barracuda) are the ones obviously
wrong, I'm pretty sure the others are ok. Is this a 'virtually' dead
drive? Can I force vinum to use the other's drive configuration? What's
the less traumatic

samba with ADS. winbindd ignore for user authentication
Hello,
I'm trying to set up samba using ADS for authentication.
I can successfully join the samba machine to the domain. Windows hosts
can "see" the samba machine.
After successfully joining, doing:
# wbinfo -u
shows me ADS-defined users. Same goes for groups.
However, when I try and assign one of those users ownership of a file, I
get:
# chown user1 /tmp/test

Page_log with number of pages prtinted wrong
The Adobe drivers (on request of the printer PPD associated with them) often put a
PJL header in front of the main PostScript part of the print file. Thus, the printfile
starts with <1B >%-12345X or <escape>%-12345X instead of %!PS). This leads to
the CUPS daemon auto-typing the incoming file as a print-ready file, not initiating
a pass through the pstops filter (to speak more

Multichannel Encoding
I'm a mathematician and programmer working on experimental surround sound
techniques. Some of the ideas I'm working on require dozens of channels.
These channels are often highly correlated and are very well suited to
compression.
I'm new to Vorbis. Does it attempt to address such issues?
Thanks,

Hello all,
I have a DL360 G4 1U server that does a wonderfull job with dovecot horde,
Xmail and OpenLDAP for a company and serving about 40 acouunts.
The machine is wonderful. I am very happy with it.
However, I am running out of disk space.
It has two times 76Gb Drives in RAID1 (disk mirroring) and the capacity
has reached 82%.?
I am starting of getting nervous.
Does anyone know of a painless
