Windows XP SP2 on a Samba 3.0.10 PDC - roaming profiles won't work
Hi All,
I am having some trouble getting Windows XP with SP2 connected to a
Samba 3.0.10-based domain controller. With SP1, I only had to change a
single registry key to prevent Windows from demanding a signed
connection, then it worked.
But with SP2, and the same samba-configuration, I have noticed that upon
log-off, the user's profile is updated by the user "root" of the group

PDC, allow only domain logons to use services
Hi,
I am running a nice Samba PDC that caters to a dozen or so Windows
XP-SP2 clients. Point is, those clients should login to the domain, then
access the shares. But they don't, some of the users are stubborn,
refuse to login and just access the shares via direct IP.
What I want is such a setup that only those users that are actually
logged in to the PDC via domain logon can access the

Samba as PDC with XP Client - Logon requires reboot - Help Please
Hi, I'm running the latest version of Samba with a tdbsam backend,
configured not to use roaming profiles. Two different XP clients (SP2)
are joined to the domain ok but users can only logon by rebooting before
entering their logon details. When users logoff and try to logon again
(or logon as a different user on the same machine) they get the standard
message 'windows cannot connect to

XP SP2 connecting to 3.0.10-1.4E
I have been running our companies XP Pro systems on our Samba domain
controller (version: 3.0.10-1.4E) with local administrative rights up to
this point. Everything has worked fine.
We are getting larger now and I'd like to make the logins locally
restricted (I want them to have XP's "Users" rights and "Remote Desktop
Users" only). When I restrict the accounts

Windows PDC vs BDC placement; who takes care of the bulk of domain logons?
Hey all, might be a tad bit off topic to samba, but not entirely unlrelated.
Anyhow, as I understand it, the task of a BDC is to process most if not all
of the domain logons before a PDC does so is it not? It has been my
understanding that the BDC generally accepts and processes domain logons
before the PDC does on a network to keep the load down on the PDC until such
time as the BDC cannot

Samba maps any user to nobody -> problem logging on to samba domain (pdc) from a win xp workstation
I did it all again. The samba workstation account smb_cl is all right.
My problem is that after I have joined my samba domain
the domain logon does not work.
At the logon prompt on my Win XP it says
- that no domain controller is available or
- that my machine account was not found.
My log.smbd says at the same time:
[2003/04/11 12:21:59, 0] smbd/password.c:authorise_login(872)

Domain logon problem with w2k client on a Samba-3 PDC
I'm having problems configuring Samba in order to have w2000Pro being able
to log into the PDC that I have configured on a Centos4 Linux using samba
3.0.10-1.4E.
On a Windows98 client. It logs in OK and executes the login script also.
Here's the smb.conf:

AW: problem logging on to samba domain (pdc) from a win xp workstation
I had assumed that already and did that manually.
Might I have to change further keys on my xp workstation in the control
panel in order to become a domain member of my samba domain?
Why doesn't the workstation find the domain controller = samba pdc at
logon time? Do I have to modify any host file on XP, install a dns
server?
Cheers,
Dominik

Samba PDC:Win XP client:profile problem:must be local admin
I've got a problem with roaming profiles. I've googled, trolled the
mailing lists, and read the documentation.
Problem details
I'm running samba 3.0.7 as PDC with WinXP clients. When I log onto
WinXP as a domain user the profile is downloaded (you can tell because
it takes a while and hub is lit up) but the profile won't load
properly. Specifically I notice that the desktop is

PDC: Logging out from Windows XP SP2 takes a long time
I have samba set up as primary domain controller, and have problems with
my Windows XP SP2 machines. Logging in is quick, but most of the time
(nine out of ten times) the logout process takes a long time - I do end
up rebooting, but once I let it stay and it took a whole hour before it
was logged out. It seems to act the same way for all users.
Possible sources already eliminated:

"Windows cannot obtain the domain controller name for your computer network" error on XP Pro SP2 clients for Samba 3.0.23d PDC
Hi,
I've recently reinstalled our Samba server with a view to getting it
working as a PDC using the tdbsam backend. I've successfully connected a
number of XP Pro SP2 clients to the domain and can login ok, but I'm
have problems getting the clients to read/apply an NTConfig.POL file I
created following the instructions at

slow logons - DNS problem?
I'm using roaming profiles, and to logon, it often takes one-two minutes
or so on a 100 Mbit network (no traffic), with profiles as small as 2-5 MB.
Clients are Windows XP SP2 machines, Samba versions 3.0.11 and 3.0.14a
(deiifernt networks).
Can it be a DNS problem?
Right now the DNS is on a separate machine (small router really), and
doesn't really know what Samba is.

Samba 3 as PDC and hidden folders
I'm running Samba 3.0.10 as a PDC for Win XP Pro (SP2) workstations.
User Outlook .pst files on desktop machines are (obviously) very
important, and must be synced with server at logout for proper backup
(which occurs on server).
I've noticed that said Outlook .pst files are stored on the XP Pro
desktops in a folder called:
"C:\Documents and Settings\<user_name>\Local

Thanks

samba-3.0.10-1.4E (RHEL4): logon failures with 2003 server pdc
I recently set up a new RHEL4 server with samba-3.0.10 in a Windows 2003
server PDC domain.
I can log on as one user from different workstations on to the new samba
server. With several other users, I get this error:

WG: Samba 2.2.7a and XP pro
Dear Michael,
I just have the same problem you have with samba 2.2.3a on a Suse 8.0
machine and win xp pro. Besides I performed all the steps below.
>From my postings I learned that the prob might have something to do with
a wrong mapping in smbusers file. It seems to me that the workstation
account is mapped to user nobody.
Up to now I was not able to solve the prob.
Do you have any ideas
