Storing GPC and GPT
Is possible to store the Group Policy Container (GPC) on a OpenLDAP? Is possible to store the Group Policy Template (GPT) on a Samba share? The idea is to manage windows desktop policies using the new Win200x GPOs without using an Active Directory. Any other hints? Hi, I have some machines (winXP and win2k) that cannot join my domain. Others I have joined to the domain. I am using the smbldap-tools 0.8.9 with an add machine script as follows: add machine script = /usr/local/samba/sbin/smbldap-useradd -w "%u" The LDAP entity gets created with objectClasses top, inetOrgPerson, and posixAccount. Winbind Issues
Hi all, Been having issues trying to get winbind working properly. Basically I need windows Domain controller features such as forcing bad password attempts and group policy etc and use samba as the FileStore. I can kinit nps, I can join the samba machine to the AD (shows up on the windows box too) But when I run wbinfo -u I get ; [root@dev1 bin]# ./wbinfo -u Error looking up domain users

Samba+ldap, Getent and AD (aka the good bad and the downright ugly)

This is my question: By reading various emails over the last 2 weeks and various howtos etc In order to share users and passwords etc all I need to do is edit the nsswitch.conf To passwd: compat

Samba-3 by example Ch.3
Hi, I'm following chapter 3 (from the web-site), and I copied and pasted the smb.conf file. I corrected an error (I think) : passwd chat = *New*... : the "=" was missing and then "*New*..." was on the following line. Then I ran testparm -s, and I got an error : ERROR: the 'passwd program' () requires a '%u' parameter. I seem unable to solve this. Any

Random Early Detection
I''m streaming audio over a WAN that is 1.5Mbit/s. The audio has to go both ways and can be over tcp or udp. The manufacturers recommend udp as it has less overhead but has a higher chance of dropping out. The audio requires 130-200kbit/s in each direction for a combined 260-400kbit/s. I have two transparent bridges on either side of the WAN to do traffic control. I split it so

Patch: FC4 spec file
The patch below modifies the spec file for FC4 RPM builds as follows: 1.) Build binaries using the -lmcheck option; various samba commands and smbd process crash badly without; see, for example: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=164353 2.) The Fedora project's samba RPMS install mount.cifs; it would help to have samba.org's RPMS do the same. It would be nice to

Nested loop and output help
Hello Everyone, My name is Thomas and I have been using R for one week. I recently found your site and have been able to search the archives of posts. This has given me some great information that has allowed me to craft an initial design to an inquiry I would like to make into the breakdown of McNemar's test. I have read an intro to R manual and the posting guides and hope I am not violating

Poor man''s backup by attaching/detaching mirror drives on a _striped_ pool?
Hi, one quick&dirty way of backing up a pool that is a mirror of two devices is to zpool attach a third one, wait for the resilvering to finish, then zpool detach it again. The third device then can be used as a poor man''s simple backup. Has anybody tried it yet with a striped mirror? What if the pool is composed out of two mirrors? Can I attach devices to both mirrors, let them
