Samba processes
Hi Am noticing smbd processes are running as root and occassionally I see a child process as userid Just curios under what circumstances the smbd runs as user id process ( unix id ) and running as root is a security risk? Thanks in advance -Abdul

ssyslogd (encryped syslog)
I was wondering if any one has had any experiance using ssyslogd. http://www.core-sdi.com/ssyslog/ Secure Syslog v1.21 I have read a bit about it, but have been unable to find any good linux reference. I was wondering if people have been using it with any success. And if not, are there any other encrypted syslog solutions out there? [mod: Please reply to Mark, he'll summarize in about a

Unix to SMB Password Sync using PAM
Hello, I would like to configure PAM to sync Unix passwords to Samba passwords. When I add a new Unix user or change an existing Unix user's password, I want the same password to be stored in /etc/smbpasswd. I'm trying to follow these instructions: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/pam.html#id2606200 It sounds like this is what I want to do: "A sample

DllImport: How to specify the library to link to?
Hi, I am absolutely new to LLVM. Currently reading through documentation and the C-API (which i want to use). As i am working on Windows, i was curios on how to specify an import which links to a function exported by a dll. The DLLStorageClass seems to be the wy to go, this seems clear. But after declaring a function for import, how do i specify the DLL the function is included in?

curios problem: No Sound in Warcraft 3, but in autoplay.exe
Hi, after Warcraft 3 is now working without jerking on my Laptop* (need to add "-opengl" as argument), I want to solve a curios sound problem. When I insert my Warcraft 3 CD and click on autoplay.exe, there is the typical Warcraft 3 intro-sound for the installer, but in the game itself, there isn't any kind of sound. Also when I open winecfg and press the sound-test button, the

which DNS backend ?
Hi Rowland, Would you care to elaborate on that last sentence? I've not seen that mentioned before and I'm very curios about your reasons for saying it, especially as we're using internal DNS for our two DCs. regards, John On 29/02/16 06:18, Rowland penny wrote: > On 28/02/16 18:30, Felipe_G0NZÁLEZ_SANTIAG0 wrote: >> Hello list, I need to know which DNS backend is using

is Intel VT-d "really" necessary?
Hi all, I'm just curios and would like some input from the community on this one. We're busy budgeting for a couple of new servers and I thought it would be good to try out the Core i7 CPU's, but see the majority of them don't offer VT-d, but just VT-x. Looking at the LGA1366 range, only the "Intel lga1366 i7 980XE" (from the list of what our suppliers stock) have VT-d,

[LLVMdev] Passes for object memory footprint / data-direction
Hi, In the past months we were working on two LLVM passes which use data objects of functions as input. One pass computes the "data-direction" (FORTRAN users know this as intent) of the object, i.e. whether it is read-only, write-only or read-write. The second pass injects code into the LLVM module that, when called at run-time, computes the memory footprint of the object. This also

canonicalize_connect_path failed for service
Hi, Our setup: Samba (classic) DC: cdr-dc01 Samba (classic) member server: cdr-fs01. This is also a file server AD realm: CDR.internal We migrated to AD and came across an issue with accessing shares. The shares in question worked pre-migrated. i.e using a windows machine a user was able to access that share. The share in question was locked down to just that user Post migration, we are able

[LLVMdev] Missed optimization opportunity
I recently downloaded LLVM 2.8 and started playing with the optimizations a bit. I saw something curious while trying the following function: int g(unsigned int a) { unsigned int c[100]; c[10] = a; c[11] = a; unsigned int b = c[10] + c[11]; if(b > a*2) a = 4; else a = 8; return a + 7; } The generated code, with -O3 activated, is define i32 @g(i32 a) nounwind readnone { %add = shl i32

IPV4 is nearly depleted, are you ready for IPV6?
Seeing as IPV4 is near it's end of life (http://www.internetnews.com/infra/article.php/3915471/IPv4+Nearing+Final+Days.htm), I'm curios as who know whether everyone is ready for the changeover to IPV6? Is anyone using it in production already, and what are your experiences with it? -- Kind Regards Rudi Ahlers SoftDux Website: http://www.SoftDux.com Technical Blog:
