failing WINS test #1
Hi Samba users,
I'm using a typical Samba 3.0.14a PDC/Ldap setup. The pdc is also the
WINS server.
The wins server is working perfectly with one exception. The server
cannot query itself.
I searched through log.nmbd and this is what i found :

Can't see shares on a server member
Hi team,
I'm dealing with AS/U as a member server on a Samba 3.0.20 PDC.
Jonction seems ok, and from the member server I can see PDC's shares (with
net view) and authenticate user (with net logon user passwd
/domain:domainname).
On the other side, I fell into timeout when running smbclient -L member
from the PDC. Here is a log.nmbd loglevel 10 from PDC as there is no other

Probably a bug in samba audit
Hi.
I got this email-address from BUGS.txt file of the samba distribution.
I read it carefully.
I got configured and working samba, I work with samba above one year.
I still have a problem, and, according to the samba log output, I think
it's probably a bug.
When I try to use the shares with audit support, I have my Far

I have that

Can join domain; can't logon
I had a problem similar to my current one a week or so ago, and I was
encouraged to upgrade from Samba 2.2.9 to 3.0.7, which I did. Now
that I've completed that nightmare, the problem I initially set out to
fix is still there, just different. Namely:
I am trying to set up Samba 3.0.7 on a SuSE 9.1 box as an LDAP PDC
whose only job will be authentication. Our LDAP server is on a

Winbind and Samba/LDAP PDC
Hi Samba Users,
I am currently in the process of migrating from an NT4 Domain to a
Samba/LDAP Domain.
I am already running a number of samba servers which are domain member
servers in the existing domain. They retrieve their account information
from the NT4 PDC using winbind.
So far i have completed the NT4 to Samba/LDAP migration as described in
chapter 9 of Samba by Example up to the point

Hello,
I am having problems getting nmbd to work as a WINS
server. nmblookup fails, as lookups from a PC.
If I turn the debugging way up, in the log.nmb, I see:

current master browser = UNKNOWN / failing WINS test #1 on 3.0.23c
I am having trouble with one of my samba PDC's. It does not recognize
itself as the domain master browser even though it is set to be so. I
can not add machines to this domain and I suspect this is why. Has
anybody seen this or know what causes it? Notice this:
DOMAIN_ALBANY(3) current master browser = ALBANY_PDC
DOMAIN_NYC(2) current master browser = NYC_PDC

unable to get Windows XP to join domain using BDC
I have a domain named ADAMSTEST with the LDAP/PDC being
gomer.mdah.state.ms.us ip 10.8.3.37 and the BDC bldg2.mdah.state.ms.us
ip 10.8.7.2. nss_ldap is working, i can ssh in to both servers fine.
I'm trying to have a Windows XP named domain2 with ip 10.8.7.254 join
the domain using the WINS server of 10.8.7.2 in the network tcp/ip
settings. So it should be able to join the domain by

Unable to join domain : Migrating from Ubuntu to CentOS (WinXP Client)
Hi,
I am migrating a ubuntu server to a centos one. The ubuntu server is
working and new server even tough it's running I can't join the domain from
a new machine. The new server is not on production so the client (win xp)
is connected via a crossover cable.
The error message on the client is something like user/password invalid (I

Nmbd errors & not starting since upgrade to 3.0.2a?
I have recently upgraded my Redhat 7.3 server to Fedora FC1 with all related updates. I also upgraded my samba version from 3.0.0 to 3.0.2a. It now seems that my nmbd daemon will not start & subsequently I cannot log in from any Windows client as the netbios server name PDC is not found I think. Before this problem started, I noticed that in order for my DNS ping requests from Windows clients

Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
Hi,
i've tried adding server max protocol = NT1 into /etc/samba/smb.conf
and restarting smbd and nmbd services but it didn't do the trick.
I feel like Windows clients are not able to resolve SRV1 into the PDC
and so they can't event try to join the domain.

Server not browseable with 3.0.8
I'm running samba on a Debian "testing" system. I previously had a
working Samba 3.0.7, but upgraded recently to 3.0.8. The only differences
between my /etc/samba/smb.conf and the version supplied by Debian in
/usr/share/samba/smb.conf are the name of the workgroup, encrypt passwords
= true, and I selected the lines for lprng-based printing.
It used to work fine. I could browse

Suddenly Windows clients can't join Samba+ldap PDC anymore
I'm completely lost as i can ping SRV1 without issues but i'm starting
to think that maybe Windows tries to join the domain through IPV6.
ping -c6 SRV1 from this Windows 10 machine leads to host not found so
i'm working on this direction right now.
Any help will be really appreciated

Weird Samba issues
I manage a Samba server that has been working nicely for a couple of
months (after it replace the old Samba server which worked happily for
years). We use LDAP for accounts, but don't use domain logons or
anything fancy.
All users have their home dir on Samba mapped to drive 'M:'. In their
home, there are symbolic links to various directories they're entitled
to access. Links
