Samba-3.0.x: Strange problems with roaming profiles
Hello
I've got some strange problems with Samba-3.0.4. When using roaming
profiles, keyboard layout is set to english (instead of norwegian) and a
lot of programs wont load correctly. Setting log level = 3 revealed a
lot of errors after the netlogon-script had executed (and all shares
correctly set up). I switched to log level = 10 to get a more detailed
view of these errors (show below).

Can't reset password from windows 2000, or from the samba pdc. Error from samba pdc: machine127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86:The specified password is invalid.
Salim,
Yes I do have permission to run the passwd command as
a local user, I can change the unix password just
fine. It is when I do the smbpasswd command that that
error comes up. Thanks for looking at this!

Can't reset password from windows 2000, or from the samba pdc. Error from samba pdc: machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The specified password is invalid.
I have a samba pdc running 3.0.4. I have users
logging into the profile server and wanting to change
there password. However when they try to change the
password it asks them for the old and new password but
says they do not have permission to change the
password. I can change the password for them when I
log into the pdc as root but when I try to do it as
user it gives the error:

with this email. I have also attached the "net groupmap list" results.

RAP86 error with unix password sync = yes
Hello all,
I am running 3.0.22 on Ubuntu 6.0.6 LTS and cannot get user passwords to
change while unix password sync = yes. Setting it to no works, but I need
it on. At the user workstation (Win XP) I receive "You don't have the
permissions to change your password" and logged in on the server as the user
I receive

same results with our AIX 4.3.3. It seems the samba redirection of stdout
and stdin (which seems to work with most unix platforms) does not work with
AIX. I detected similar problems with redirection from java.
I have created a patch for samba 2.2.2 to directly change the AIX password
(using AIX-routines getuserpw and setuserpw). I think it will also work
with 2.2.3a. Its not yet published on my

Unix password sync
Hi!
I'm new in this list and i'm quite new to samba.
I'm trying to configure samba as a PDC for a Windows XP network.
Samba version: 3.2.5 on Debian Lenny 5.0.4
The domain works, as well profiles. The problem is the "unix password
sync" options.
My values are:
|unix password sync = yes
passwd program = /usr/bin/passwd %u
passwd chat = *New*UNIX*password* %n\n

passwd not running as root
Hi all,
I posted a message about this problem a couple of weeks ago without a
response so I'm trying again. My problem is that samba does not seem to
be running passwd as root when it tries to sync the passwords. For
example, when I run smbpasswd as a user logged onto the samba box I get
the following error:
machine 127.0.0.1 rejected the password change: Error was : RAP86: The

Samba password change problem
Hey guys,
I need some help here...
I have a PDC built with samba 3.0.10 using MySQL for the passdb backend
Everything works fine until I try to get my Unix and Samba password sync'd
For example if I run:
# smbpasswd -D 100 -U root -r cirion &> log
Without the unix password sync = yes enabled in the config file, the samba
password is changed, and the resulting log file shows:

Unix password sync
Hi all,
Sorry if this has been answered before, but I've searched Google and the
archives and it hasn't revealed an answer to my problem.
Basically I'm trying to get unix password sync to work so that users can
change both their logon and other services (POP3 etc) passwords from
within Windows. but the problem is that if I enable unix password sync,
it fails with the error of:
