dual boot linux/winxp, winbind
We have a bunch of dual-boot boxes (linux/winxp). I'd like to be able
to use winbind (against ads) for user authentication on the linux side,
but it appears samba has to join the AD too. Upon joining the AD under
linux/samba, it makes the windows side of things stop working (machine
account has been modified).
In the past, when using an NT4 domain, I was able to tell samba to use a

All works except MS Office 2003 Pro navigation of win . shortcuts to shares
Hi,
That 4. a.m. periodicity is logrotate restarting your samba in order to
rotate it's logs...
The "Processing section..." appears everytime a new smdb starts ( every new
client connection to server, samba restarting, etc).
If you want to force it, just restart your samba. Remember that windows
caching may get in the way. So if you really want to be sure, restart also

Limit user groups
Hello,
I'm trying to add a user to big list of Samba groups, 74 groups to be
precise.
The problem is that when the user reaches around 65 to 70 groups, it starts
giving errors in User Manager for Domains, and causes a panic in Samba.
Is there a limit for how many groups a user may belong?
I'm using Samba-3.0.10 with openldap.
This is what I get in the logs.

Re: One more
I use pam_require.so to limit access to services via pam. Here is how
I limit access to my pure-ftpd server to a specific group (GLFTPAccess).
You can also limit access to specific users, like I did with the user
root.
auth sufficient pam_winbind.so
auth required pam_unix2.so # set_secrpc
auth required pam_nologin.so
auth required pam_env.so
account required pam_nologin.so

Samba + Exchange 5.5 SP4 (UPDATE)
Hi.
Applied it to 3.0.8, which still has the issue...
Worked like a charm...
Thanks a lot.
Will it be merged with future samba releases?
Best regards.

Samba + Exchange 5.5 SP4 (UPDATE)
Hi again.
After installing ethereal on the samba server itself, I've found this:
WIN2K -> SAMBA LsarLookupSids2 request
SAMBA -> WIN2K Fault: call_id: 4 ctx_id: 0 status: nca_op_rng_error
WIN2K -> SAMBA LsarLookupSids request
SAMBA -> WIN2K LsarLookupSids response, STATUS_NONE_MAPPED
Once again i'm completely lost.
Anyone?
Best regards.

Samba 3.0.20 and UserManager
Hi all.
Just tried to upgrade our test PDC server from 3.0.14a to 3.0.20, and now
i've stumbled in to the following error.
Using the User Manager for Domains causes a "Procedure out of range" error.
Using DameWare NT Utilities causes the application to crash.
Tried both in WIN2000 and XP.
If I downgrade to 3.0.14a again everything is OK.
Server Manager works OK in both versions.

ntlm_auth and high load fault
Hi,
I've noticed that Windows Updates, just won't do NTLM auth, so i've just
added a no_auth exception for windows update sites.
How many children are you starting. I'm serving +700 users with just one
squid with 30 ntlm_auth processes on a PII/800 MHZ/256 MB Ram with no
problems wathsoever.

User groups
Wlcome in the club :-)
I wrote a topic "Limit of group membership for a user?" with the same
problem, and I don't have any answer by the samba team. I have the most
recent Samba 3.0.21b, OpenLDAP 2.2.28 and Glibc 2.3.6 version on a
Gentoo (kernel 2.6.15) and I have the same problem. I check the
NGROUP_MAX (65535) and the NSS_BUFLEN_GROUP (2048) value of the glibc.
For the AMD64

USRMGR.EXE doesn't work anymore.
I've upgraded my system at Samba 3.0.20 (SLES 8) bacause of some errors
on winbind and Windows 2003.
Now, usrmgr.exe doesn't work anymore.
It reports: ?procedure number is out of range - Do you want to
administrate another domain??
USRMGR has been working for 3 years; I've made all upgrades on Windows
2000, but the results it's the same.
Any Idea?

BDC and password change program
Hello,
Just wondering what I should be using for the password change program on a BDC.
Should it be:
passwd program = /usr/bin/smbpasswd -r <PDC address> %u
I'm having a problem with passwords not staying in sync between the PDC and BDC
with pass backend ldap.
The systems are all Fedora Core 4, Samba 3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.23

Administrator account samba-3.0alpha21 and LDAP
Hi!
I am setting up a test bed for Samba PDC + LDAP. I used the 3.0alpha21
rpm for RH8 from samba.org. The setup is working. Win9x client can
login no problem.
I was wondering how I should setup an "Administrator" account for the
domain. Right now, my plan is to have samba authenticate only to the
ldap backend ("passdb backend = ldapsam" only). Does the administrator

The conflicting domain portions are not supported
Hi, maybe I didn't explained myself well.
What i meant is that the user can't have the SID
S-1-5-21-528226156-890416033-2029241632 but MUST have a sid like
S-1-5-21-528226156-890416033-2029241632-xxxx ( where x is usually assigned
automatically by the add user's script)

Users Privileges
Hi all,
I'm trying to understand the user privileges implementation, and i've
stumbled in to a question.
My scenario.
Samba + LDAP in central office acting as PDC
8 Samba + LDAP(replica) servers in 8 offices over a WAN acting as BDC's.
Every office has a local Sysadmin.
Also there are some technical guys who can add machines to the domain.
If I understood well, the technical guys

Group membership limitation
Hi all.
I've made this question over and over, but still no answer till now.
So here goes again, maybe I have better luck this time.
Is there any limitation to the number of groups a samba user may belong?
I've found out that if the user belongs to more than 60 to 70 groups,
group-based share access stop working.
