AW: Tall tale of woe....
Hello Ross, I've got a similar problem since a week with my server. I'm running RH 8.0 on a Xeon 1.4Ghz with 2GB RAM, too. My CPU usage was pretty low (>90% idle) but the CPU load average was at 14. For now I'm waiting for the next time it happens to get some more information. Best regards, Reiner -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: Ross McInnes (Systems)

Samba and Windows ACL Issue
Hi all got a bit of and odd problem with ACL. Ive read up on a few bits in the samba howto and read some threads on here about it. Im not sure if this is a bug, something ive not done, doing wrong etc so anyone that could shed some light on it that would be great. Basically the windows box handles all user account processing and during creating a script for all this it will attempt to change the

SV: Speex modes
Well, I don't know what SBR is, but there's something in the wideband mode that may be similar: It's possible to encode the whole 4-8 kHz band with just ~1-2 kbps by only encoding the (LPC) shape of the spectrum and then just filling that band with "something that makes sense". Quality is quite reasonable... Jean-Marc Le dim 13/10/2002 à 06:18, Steve Underwood a

Problems connecting to Samba using windows XP
Hi, We are having difficulty connecting to a samba server using windows XP pro. Plain text is enabled and we can search for the server on the network, but as soon as we map a drive to it, it asks for a username and password. We enter this and then it asks for a password relating to a guest account. Can anyone help me with why it defaults to the guest account? Regards Phil This message

Winbind home directory not resolving properly
Hi all: I've got an issue on one of my winbind-configured systems. I've got it configured per instructions found on one of ubuntu's forum sites. I've configured two 9.10 systems, one works perfectly. I've copied most of the files over to the non-working system; they are configured identically as far as I can tell. On both systems, wbinfo -u/-g, getent passwd, and ssh login

rpcclient setprinter failes
Hi List. We have an Redhat 8.0 machine who acts as an printserver. I'm sharing printers via Samba and using CUPS. Samba is 2.2.7a and CUPS 1.1.8. The Microsoft clients (Win9x, Win NT, Win 2k) is downloading the driver from the server. I had no problem to install and upload up to 55 printers but now I am not able to set the driver. I can install more printers, but when cupsaddsmb is running

Winbind Issues
Hi all, Been having issues trying to get winbind working properly. Basically I need windows Domain controller features such as forcing bad password attempts and group policy etc and use samba as the FileStore. I can kinit nps, I can join the samba machine to the AD (shows up on the windows box too) But when I run wbinfo -u I get ; [root@dev1 bin]# ./wbinfo -u Error looking up domain users

home share issue: //server/homes errs, while //server/<username> works
Hello list, I'm running a samba server in AD domain, with some AD users explicitly mapped into local users by "username map = sambauser.map", which is a text file. Problem is found with explicitly mapped user, I can only access home share by //server/<ADusername>, not //server/homes (using windows explorer). This feels wrong because I also tried those AD users not listed in

RESOLVED - RE: Ext3 problems possibly plauging me
Thank you to all who replied. I am very happy (for you guys anyway) to report that this was NOT infact caused by ext3, but rather a very very untimely memory failure that occured during my convertion from ext2 to ext3. It turned out that one of my PC2100 DDRs went south, and I'll be contacting Crucial to deal with that. Thanx again for all the help. benr. -----Original Message-----

Samba+ldap, Getent and AD (aka the good bad and the downright ugly)
Hi all. I have managed to join my samba server to an AD domain. I can now join using the net command and get various other bits of info. Wbinfo -u /g/t etc works nps Getent however doesn't. This is my question: By reading various emails over the last 2 weeks and various howtos etc In order to share users and passwords etc all I need to do is edit the nsswitch.conf To passwd: compat

3.0.14 and MacOs X (tiger)
Hi! I upgraded our sambainstallation today since it got into problems with Windows ADS 2003. So I installed all suse rmps for 9.2 (samba 3.0.14) and tested with a few windows boxes and everything works perfektly. No more strange errormessages in the logs about not finding existing users. Now to the problem, when I came back to my own computer, MacOs X 10.4, i suddenly can't use any

Unknown auth type
Hi! I have upgraded our samba from 3.0.9 to 3.0.20 when upgrading our server to Suse 10.0. But now our windows-clients have problem to reach the shares in some circumstances. They can browse the network find the server and then gain access to the shares (if the start from "entire network". They can map a unit to a share. They can't write in the adress-fields, access denied,

Samba-3 by example Ch.3
Hi, I'm following chapter 3 (from the web-site), and I copied and pasted the smb.conf file. I corrected an error (I think) : passwd chat = *New*... : the "=" was missing and then "*New*..." was on the following line. Then I ran testparm -s, and I got an error : ERROR: the 'passwd program' () requires a '%u' parameter. I seem unable to solve this. Any

Unstable connection to AD
Hi! We got a problem when authenticating our user on our samba-server. It seems like the connection to our ADS drops now and then. When being up it runs very nice. Running "getent passwd" works well and also seems to establish the contact again for a while, atleast winbind stops reporting that users doesn't exist. We have reasonally had reason to reboot our firewall because the

Samba and Active directory groups
Hi list, I have successfully authenticated active directory users with samba. Now I need to create some Active directory security groups and authenticate and redirect those users to a specific directory. Ex: IT_GROUP - user x , user y FIN_group - user a, user b If the user x , access the samba server, that user will be redirected to the specific directory (that's in the samba stanza). This
