How to map locked user Administrator in AD domain to guest ?
Hello
I have Samba running as AD member. In addition there is a support of
quest user connections to shares, that allow guest connections to
shares, where access is restricted on IP addresses base.
Problem is, that Administrator is not mapped to guest, because
Administrator in AD domain is locked. Samba gets respond
NT_STATUS_ACCOUNT_LOCKED_OUT and denies connection. While computers,

Disable winbindd authentication while keep winbindd running
Hello
I have samba 3.0.13 running in ADS mode. For some specific reason I want
to disable winbindd authentication while I want winbindd keep running.
If I understood right - option "auth methods" would help to do that. But
I am not sure if this will not break existing services :
auth methods = guest sam
All users that authenticate are created locally in /etc/passwd file.

Samba4 as domain member and file server
Hi guys,
I'm having trouble setting up my file server running Samba 4 (4.0.3). I had no problem joining the domain (also a Samba 4 (4.0.3) with AD) but I can't get the ACL to work properly. I'm sure my settings are wrong and hoping for some help.
When I try to set a user permission I get this error:
setfacl -m u:administrator:rwx test3.txt
setfacl: test3.txt: Malformed access ACL

Samba, ADS and "Failed to verify incoming ticket!"
Hello
I have Samba that joined Windows 2003 based ADS. At least "net ads
testjoin" and "net rpc testjoin" gives that "Join is OK". Alas clients
can't connect to Samba server. In a log I see following messages :

pam_smbpass on Solaris box
Hello
I decided to test password migration (on Solaris 8 box with SUNWspro C) and built samba with pam_smbpass module :
CC=cc ./configure --prefix=/opt/local/samba --with-acl-support --with-pam --with-pam_smbpass
Then installed bin/pam_smbpass.so in /usr/lib/security :
# ls -al /usr/lib/security/pam_smbpass.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root sys 2091380 Oct 23 11:01

How to get time differences in consistent units?
I'm still having trouble getting to grips with time classes.
I wish to calculate the difference in days between events.
Browse[1]> insp.j$First
[1] "2002-02-19 13:00:00 NZDT"
Browse[1]> spray.j$Date
[1] "2001-11-29 13:00:00 NZDT"
Browse[1]> insp.jk - spray.j$Date
Time difference of 82 days
If I save insp.jk to a vector, I get a nice useful value of 82.

Samba shares with Windows ACL's
I'm having trouble with my new fileserver, I can't make the shares viewable
by windows clients.
I had the same problems with the first file server I built and cannot
remember what I did to "fix" it.
I have gone through the page "Setting up a share using Windows ACL's" on
the Samba Wiki (
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_a_Share_Using_Windows_ACLs) but

Group permissions and recursion
Hi,
Now that we have successfully moved a first department share on to our
mega SAMBA server, we're in the 20% of the old 80/20 rule. Our problem
has to do with group permissions within the extended acl.
We have implemented winbind along with the ADS security mode. This
means that a user isn't just "jdoe", but is "MYDOMAIN\jdoe". We are
using the extended ACL

samba, pam, kerberos
Hello
I want use stand alone samba server 3.0.0 on Solaris 8 box. We have users configure locally, but authentication is done via Kerberos server. I expected to deal with samba installation quite easy, but got stuck. As I understood from documentation - there are two ways how to do that :
1. Install pam authentication. Well this works fine from samba side. Alias - it requires password

R-beta: questions and comments
Let me first tell you that you and your cohorts are
doing a great service to the statistical community
with R. I have been working with Rseptbeta under
Win95 and I am very impressed with its capabilities.
I thought I give you some feedback gained from
my limited playing with R.

Samba ADMIN$ share
Hello
Is it possible to make ADMIN$ share (Samba 3.0.14a) world writeable and
pointing to specific directory ? I am interested in building some sort
of honey pot that would allow virus to transfer files to ADMIN$ under
putting mode logging around. Any other solutions with samba ?

Domain Member Server: Domain Users cannot access shares
Re: zfs...
The odd thing is... It's not mdadm that's acting up, at least not in my
opinion, as I have had two other domain member servers at other locations
that host shares on filesystems that are raid arrays built with mdadm. The
only difference between those boxes and this one is the LSI MegaRaid
controller. Now I'm no expert when it comes to this controller, the box
shipped with

ntacl sysvolreset does not create correct ACL's
Hi
Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-957f9fa
openSUSE 12.2
After running samba-tool ntaclreset These are the ACE's produced:
getfacl sysvol/

# group: wheel
# flags: s--
user::rwx
user:root:rwx
group::r--
group:wheel:r--
group:3000000:r--
group:3000001:r--
group:3000002:r--
mask::rwx

I got the group names from wbinfo. The group numbers correspond to:
