nmbd appears unresponsive
I am trying to get Samba 3.4.0 (on an Ubuntu 9.10 box) set up as a file server for my home. The router is 10.1.10.1; the Ubuntu box ("chronicles") is 10.1.10.2; the OS X box I'm using for testing purposes ("job") is 10.1.10.3. From job, I can see ports 139 and 445 on chronicles are open. Neither box has 'chronicles' or 'job' listed in its /etc/hosts file.

browsing/nmbd problem - OS X
Hi, I would be very grateful if anyone could give me a bit of help with this. I am trying to run Samba 3.0.5, as distributed with Mac OS X server 10.3.8, on an Apple Xserve. Things were working beautifully until I had problems with an IP address change and had to reinstall everything. At present, the situation seems to be that the smb protocol is operating, since I can make an smb

SMB/NMBD configuration troubles.
Folks, I am stumped! I have followed every tech tip I could find and I am still unable to complete my SMB installation. Specifically, I fail Test 4 and Tests 9 and 10. I believe the problem has something to do with the NMBD configuration. Below are the parameters of our system. Any help is greatly appreciated. Can copy to test share, but not read, move or delete
I have a new SentOS 5 system and have been having problems with Samba. I had been able to access my test share but not my home share. I don't know if I could have copied or written to these other directories - didn't try. Continued

samba 4 installation failing several troubleshooting steps
Troubleshooting steps fail. Trying to replace a standalone Netware server with a Samba4 server with AD. To isolate this test setup, changed server's static IP address and separated the wiring. Then went through the Troubleshooting portion of The Samba Checklist. Some tests pass. Some tests fail. I'm weak on Samba, DNS and AD. I appreciate your instructions on how to overcome the

Slow eth0 Config
Folks, This is a strange problem, and I'm not sure this is the right place for it, so feel free point me to a better location. I'm running FC3 and Samba 3.0.14a. The problem is this: when I boot up my Linux box, and it gets to the point of turning on my NIC (eth0), where the PC used to turn it right on and continue, now there's an inordinately long delay in getting eth0 to

What is the function of nmbd?
I've got Samba 2.2.2 installed and running fine on one of our servers (RS/6000 AIX 4.3.3 and using NT authentication), however, when I do Test #4 (from docs/textdocs/DIAGNOSIS.txt) it looks like this: npssrv{root}#nmblookup -B npssrv _SAMBA_ querying _SAMBA_ on 173.148.200.113 name_query failed to find name _SAMBA_ The test said I should get back the IP address of our samba server. I got

Windows can't see my Samba shares...
Ok... I'm really stumped. I have checked thoroughly. I've performed all of the steps in the checklist from the HowTo... except for the nmblookup parts. The arguments to nmblookup seem to be based on an old version. I'm hoping someone will have an idea. Here's the whole situation... [Fwd: Samba-3 By Ex Chapt 3]
One more thing I forgot to mention. The chapter calls for editing /etc/resolv.conf, but in my case it won't stay edited--it keeps getting set back to an original form (for searching my ISP) on every reboot. Thanks again. checking nmbd
Hello. I just recently upgraded to redhat 9 from 7 & everything went smoothly except samba. Using the DIAGNOSIS.txt I get to step 3 (I think) & execute the following command nmblookup -B servername _SAMBA_ the return is thus querying _SAMBA_ on 127.0.0.1 name_query failed to find name _SAMBA_ the text advises that nmbd is not installed correctly. Well I'm using xinetd

Shares Problem
Folks, I'm running SUSE Pro 9.3 with Samba 3.0.13, and I have LAN with 2 subnets. The problem (or the symptom; I may actually have two problems) is that I can't get into some of the shares from my Win2k box (one subnet) or from my XP laptop (other subnet). The directory structure is /data /data/accounts /data/finsvcs and the shares are accounts and
