Changing AD passwords from Unix box
I have set up my linux system to authenticate against usernames and passwords on a win2k3 AD server. This seems to work fine, users are able to login to the linux using ssh, brows home directories, login at the console.... The goal is to allow users that work on Linux systems for development to share their home directories with windows systems (laptop's running Windows XP). We have some

Problems with Samba and Windows 2003 Active Domain Server
Can somebody with experience making a RedHat Fedora Core 3 server with Samba installed work in a Windows 2003 Active Domain please give me some pointers? I have a small installation with one Windows 2003 Server running as a domain controller for about 10 Windows XP machines. This is working just fine. I decided that I wanted to add a RedHat Fedora Core 3 server as a Mail server, running Cyrus IMAP

getent not working (again)
Hi all, after I searched the internet about a week now I can't find an answer to my problem: The company I work for is using a Windows 2003 Domain using the Windows Services for UNIX (SFU) and NIS. We are using two Domain Controllers that are hosting the ADS. Now I want to use Samba and NFS to implement a file server for our mixed client enviroment: There will be Linux, HP UNIX, Solaris,

AW: getent not working (again)
I don't think that this is my problem. When I try 'getent passwd <user>' I get no output either. And we only store about 200 users. Is bug 3024 fixed in the newest version? I will try to apply the patch. J?rg -----Urspr?ngliche Nachricht----- Von: Gautier, B (Bob) [mailto:Bob.Gautier@rabobank.com] Gesendet: Freitag, 21. April 2006 12:54 An: Horchler, Joerg;

Userdb passwd and 'nologin' users
I am running Dovecot with system users (userdb passwd), but some of those users don't have shell accounts on the IMAP server so their shell on that machine is set to /usr/sbin/nologin. Currently I am using maildirs and this is not a problem, but I am in the process of switching to dbox which means I will need a cronjob running 'doveadm purge -A'. During testing I found that those

/etc/nologin must be world-readable which is not totally clear
hi, the man page for sshd(1) says about /etc/nologin: "The file should be world-readable". However, nologin has no effect if it's not readable by the connecting user: if (pw->pw_uid) f = fopen(_PATH_NOLOGIN, "r"); if (f) { /* /etc/nologin exists. Print its contents and exit. */ ... ... return(254) if root has a

Can only access new SAMBA fileshare from Windows as privileged user SAMDOM/Administrator, not as an ordinary user.
Hi Rowland! On 29/03/2019 16:33, Rowland Penny via samba wrote > Roll on 'Buster' ;-) 4.5.x is well EOL. Its not ideal I know! ;) Unfortunately I (and every other Raspberry Pi user) is stuck with this for now since this is the default Samba package that Raspbian currently uses unfortunately. I did check to see if it could be upgraded using apt to something a little more recent but

nologin in auth proto version 1.1
I notice that the nologin parameter for the AUTH command is gone in version 1.1 of Dovecot Authentication Protocol. nologin was added in 1.1, so that authentication client could indicate that there will be no subsequent master requests to retrieve user info. Could we have nologin back please? Kirill

Can only access new SAMBA fileshare from Windows as privileged user SAMDOM/Administrator, not as an ordinary user.
Hi there, I wonder if anyone can help me? I recently created an active directory setup with a primary domain controller ad1 and secondary domain controller ad2 for a domain SAMDOM. In-line with what I understand to be Samba best practices I then setup a separate file-server fs1 on which I created a file share, /fsrv/shares/OgdenFiles/. This has all been done using Samba version

/etc/nologin and Solaris PAM bug
My apologies if this has already been discussed. I looked through the mailing list archives and couldn't see any mention of this problem. I compiled and installed openssh-2.3.0p1 on a sparc running SunOS 5.7, and while I was testing it to make sure everything was working properly, I noticed that when I used PAM to authenticate, rather than /bin/login, sshd was not honoring /etc/nologin. doveadm auth and the "nologin" extra field
Hello, Still busy with details... Considering, as in my previous example, a password_query returning '!' or NULL for the "nologin" column, depending on an account's status (suspended or not). Let's consider a suspended user "some.user". In the case of a successful authentication, one has: sh-3.2# doveadm auth test some.user goodpassword; echo $? passdb:

Password database extra fields and SQL
Hi everyone, first post to the list, be gentle with me! Perhaps I'm missing something here, but it appears to me that many password database extra fields currently aren't much use inside SQL queries? All boolean fields like nologin/nodelay/nopassword are set if the column is present in the returned query, regardless of value (including NULL) For example, say you have a query like:

last command shows entries for denied logins
Hello All, Im using OpenSSH 4.2p1. Suppose I disable non-root logins to my system through /etc/nologin file, SSH writes an entry for the non-root user in wtmp file. This is because the writing in wtmp file happens in parent process where checking of nologin file happens in the child one. I like to know whether we should put an entry in wtmp file for such denied logins. Any comments will be

nologin + reason -> logging reason
Hi. I'm using nologin with own reason [1]. That works fine. For example pop3 client gets nice message like "-ERR [AUTH] Account is locked. Please contact support." Unfortunately maillog lacks information details about why user was not allowed to log in. pop3-login: Disconnected (auth failed, 1 attempts in 2 secs): user=<testuser>, method=LOGIN, rip=1.1.1.1, lip=2.2.2.2,

Win7 clients problem after upgrading samba file server to 4.12 on Arch
Hi All, I have a simple home network - no domain controller, no DNS, just DHCP on my router. I have simple samba file server built on Arch Linux, with single share exposed and couple of client computers, some ot them running Win7 x32 (embedded, not-upgradeable), some others with different Win or Linux systems. All of the client are connecting to the share using the same user/pwd, set up previously

nologin not working with openssh >= 4.3 and authentication != password
Hi developers, today I tried to disable logins to an ssh server by putting a nologin file into /etc. This only worked for logins that use the password authentication mechanism. publickey-based authentications still succeeded and the users were allowed into the system. This seems straightforward to me since openssh 4.3 disabled the evaluation of /etc/nologin in favour of pam_nologin but
