slow logon from wireless network (roaming profiles)
Hi, we have recently installed samba and it all works fine on our cabled network. We are using roaming profiles. Logging on is running at pretty quick speeds (no slower than my PC used to be logging on to Novell without roaming profiles). We also have a wireless network that is running on a different subnet and is connected to the main network using a vpn tunnel. The delimiting factor here

WPA Radius wireless authentication and CentOS 5
I previously had WPA radius authentication working from my laptop to my home network with the laptop running Fedora Core 6 and the server running freeRadius under CentOS 4.4 (freeradius-1.0.1-3.RHEL4.3). I'm attempting to move my FC 6 boxes to CentOS 5 so I decided to pick on the laptop first. Unfortunately, I neglected to backup /etc before doing the CentOS 5 install (bad Dave, bad

Wireless Made Easy (for Home Desktops)
For those of you who use a wireless router and may work on one or two (or even several) machines in your computer room, an AP Client is a nice solution. When you move to another machine you can just move the wireless net adapter to the new machine and you're up and running on the network immediately. I've been using a D-Link G730AP for a while -- but it's not really made for this --

Kernel 2.6.9.42 (.0 and .0.2) Wireless Problems
WPA-2 (WPA Enterprise) fails with the new kernel(s) using ndiswrapper and wpa_supplicant. I haven't tried other authentication modes because that entails changes in the wireless setup which I am loathe to make right now. (It's a Broadcom mini pci card, so I have to use ndiswrapper with this Dell laptop. Bummer!). Rebuilding the newest wpa_supplicant rpm from the FC5 source rpm's

[OT] 802.11x roaming
Hi, I'd like to replace my DECT + fxs phones with some wireless phones. Main problem is: what about the roaming from one ap to another? Do someone adopted the 802.11r standard? What APs and what phones do you suggest me? I'm open to suggestions but I'd like to avoid proprietary solutions, I don't want to be bound to any hardware vendor. My switch does support spanning tree

Best Wireless configuration
Hi, I wonder if anyone has any suggestions on how to setup a network to run VPN over wireless. I currently have: Wireless Laptop ----> Router with VPN pass through ---> DSL modem. There is also a wired desktop running Win '98se connected to the router. The Wireless Laptop is running XP Pro sp1. I am open for suggestions on how to run VPN over the wireless. I just want to protect

Roaming Profiles Refuse to Load on MS Windows Clients
I am unable to get roaming profiles to work correctly when using a Samba 3.0.1 server with Windows 2000 and XP Pro clients. The MS Windows clients will only load the default profile but will stubbornly refuse to load their profile from the Samba server, even though when the user logs off, their profile is correctly written to /home/samba/profiles/username. I have even tried the following

incompatibility between roaming profiles and winxp clients that didn't create them
[samba v3.0.24, gentoo w/ kernel 2.6.15] I'm hoping someone has some insight into the following problem that I've recently encountered: Basically, winxp seems to be creating roaming profiles that are incompatible with another winxp client. I've got two sets of winxp clients, which I'll call 'new' and 'old'. Profiles created (and perfectly usable) by the old

Roaming profiles with Samba3
Good morning everyone. I wanted to ask the people on this list who are currently using roaming profiles with samba 3 how it is working? I worked a little with roaming profiles with 2.2.8a, but it was not working as well as I wanted it to and im hoping that samba 3 roaming profiles are working pretty well. Our network here is really calling for roaming profiles to be a major option here. Our

making a traffic shaper for wireless users
Hello all, Im new using tc, ive been reading the howto at least 2 or 3 times, but there''s a lot information to aquire all of it quickly. I''ve installed a linux box as firewall for a wireless Network in a hotel, this box is a radius for the access points and it uses iptables to redirect and permit/deny the customers to use the net. So it uses iptables to count the bytes to

Roaming profiles don't work properly on newly joined Windows clients

Just an update - I've double checked the other donated computer - it works perfectly fine, roaming profiles gets written to the server and no error message. So in fact, it's just one of

RADIUS is just an authentication (plus a bit more) protocol - what you are asking is like asking how LDAP can be used. Usually it's treated like a magic black box by applications in that one of the configuration options is to "use a RADIUS

Issue with installation on wireless-only desktop workstation, CentOS 7(1511)
I realize that many on this list have likely applauded the NetworkManager package split that removed wireless stuff into its own package, NetworkManager-wifi, because for wired workstations and servers it might be desirable to not have any wifi software installed. And I believe it was a sound technical decision to do the split. However, in doing a fresh installation of what most call CentOS

Roaming Profiles under Linux clients
Hi, As I configured the Roaming profiles under linux, it more or less generate an abnormal operation (in less than 2 mins) if I add/copy some files to the home directory. But for Windows XP and Windows 7 is running smoothly and it generates folders at the Samba4 server location with corresponding users. e.g. Administrator (for XP), and Administrator.V2 (for Win7/2008) based on my observations. I
