Problems with 2 server and 2 domains
I am trying to set up a windows Domain with Samba 2.2.8a and 2.2.7 on Debian and Redhat systems (respectively). This network has two subnets, so I have a samba server for each subnet, and they are configured to pass netbios traffic to each other so both networks can be seen in network neighborhood. I'm trying to expand this setup and create a windows Domain that will work like this:

split network into seperate networks
I've got a pretty large lan at the moment and we are moving into a new office building next week. I'm looking at splitting the lan into seperate networks. At this stage I have one samba DC that does netlogon, roaming profiles etc for all clients. I'm not using LDAP with samba and won't be able to too soon as the change would be major. I have a ldap server used for qmail /

[Bridge] Performance problems on vlan bridge
We have been having some performance problems with our linux bridge. I have no idea where to look to start diagnosing the problem, so I'll explain what we've done and hope that you might tell me where to start looking. Almost everything appears to work fine, but when I try to stream music using WMP or mp3 streaming, I can only stream about 30 seconds before it cuts out. I used to be

Bridge LAN for Windows Road Warrior
A couple days ago with help from Guus I got my basic setup running. I played and switched around parameters, modes, subnets etc and always got things working in each config. Trying to move on, I only just now realised that for what I ultimately want to do, I would have to make every machine in my office LAN a tinc node, which I’m not allowed to. I’m allowed to build up a “tinc gateway” (can be

Openvpn, bridge and shorewall
Hi, I have a Linux firewall based on shorewall with 2 NIC and ADSL (ppp0). My ppp0 ip is fixed. The internal NIC, eth1, is bridged with tap0, tap1 and tap2 to form br0. br0 subnet is 192.168.2.0/24. The firewall is configured to masq internal traffic and block whatever needs to be blocked. It is also configured to tunnel openvpn v1.6. I have a roaming laptop running XP. I can create a tunnel

[Bridge] [PATCH net] net: bridge: switchdev: don't notify FDB entries with "master dynamic"

No different than "BR_FDB_STATIC", which is a bug I'm aware of and intend to fix in net-next when I get the time (together with all the other combinations enabled by the bridge). Entry has ageing disabled, but

two PDC's on same machine in same subnet
By now we had running samba as PDC and fileserver for about 20 NT4-clients with roaming profiles. Now we start migrating NT4-clients to XP-clients and as I found out roaming userprofiles between XP and NT4 is not possible (NT4->XP works, but not vice versa). So I just thought about cloning all the profiles (docs and mails are not in the profiles so only bookmarks, adressbook and

roaming profiles behavior
I have a PDC named gomer w/ IP 10.8.3.37 and a BDC named bldg1 w/ IP of 10.8.3.231, and a testpc w/ IP of 10.8.3.237. in the TCP/IP settings of testpc, I put the WINS server as 10.8.3.231, but when I log in, the roaming profile is stored onto gomer. Is this correct behavior? I then changed bldg1's logon path from logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U to logon path = \\bldg1\profiles\%U and

Domain login across subnets
Greetings, My envrionment is Samba 3.0.23d as a PDC, password backend is OpenLDAP 2.3.27, running on SuSE 10.1; workstations are Windows XP SP2, all recent patches applied. All machines are on the same Class B private IP network. Domain logons function perfectly, performance is very nice. For security and performance reasons we are looking at dividing the network into many VLANS, each with

slow logon from wireless network (roaming profiles)
Hi, we have recently installed samba and it all works fine on our cabled network. We are using roaming profiles. Logging on is running at pretty quick speeds (no slower than my PC used to be logging on to Novell without roaming profiles). We also have a wireless network that is running on a different subnet and is connected to the main network using a vpn tunnel. The delimiting factor here

Redirected folders and mental health
We are very close to being comfortable enough with Samba4 to begin moving it into production. We've got a PDC and AD running, machines can join the domain, authentication works, but we're having some fun with profiles. We're running 4.0.5 via the Sernet PPA on Ubuntu 12.04LTS. Workstations are Windows7. We require roaming profiles with redirection of the obvious sub-folders.

Windows XP Roaming Profiles Firefox Problem
Hello, I have seemed to run into a snag and am wondering if any kind soul on here has any thoughts of what the problem may be, I have roaming profiles setup for a network of Windows XP Pro computers, using a domain controller. I am currently using Samba 3 on SUSE LINUX 10.1 (i586) with the 2.6.16.21-0.25-bigsmp kernel, the following folders in the users profiles are redirected for performance

Two domains on one network?
I feel I should know the answer to this, but I wanted to verify. I have a bunch of Windows PC's running Win 2K Pro, on three subnetworks. Two of the subnets are served by Unix (FreeBSD) boxes running NATD, but all are joined to a domain being run on a Win 2K Pro server in another building on the campus. So far I haven't joined the two Unix boxes to the domain. I'd like to

Unexpected feature (success!) re Roaming Profiles
Hello list, I'm currently replacing a NT4 stand-alone with a Samba-3.0.24 implementation. I faced some tough hours trying to mimic a rather peculiar setting in the NT4 domain: some users had Roaming Profiles, while others hadn't. But this Local vs. Roam was NOT specified on the client device, but pushed from the NT4 server. So the box in User Profiles where one can usually select

Samba as a Client Accessing Windows 2008 Roaming Profiles
Hello, I am using Samba on Linux as a CLIENT which is accessing Windows Server 2008 and I am trying to setup roaming profiles on the Linux/Samba client. My Linux distribution is openSUSE 11.3 RC1/Factory and YaST does a very good job at setting up Kerberos/Samba to join the domain. It all seems to work, except the Linux profile isn't synchronized back to the Windows domain server. I assume

Losing wallpapers on roaming profiles
Hi! I'm getting difficulties with wallpapers on roaming profiles on a samba 3.0.9-2.3 under SuSE 9.2 with Windows XP Professional Clients. I discovered, by reading other postings concerning this topic, that Windows won't use jpegs as wallpapers on roaming profiles (converts them to bmp and stores them in "Local Settings", which doesn't roam). So I converted the pictures
