smb ports feedback
Having read a few posts recently I thought I would do some testing.
Given XP's use of 445 and that I have a couple of networks where they only have XP clients, I thought I would try setting smb ports to 445 only rather than that suggested of just specifying 139.
This has worked well for XP clients with SP2.
However SP1, and presumably pre-SP1 clients, lose all sight of the NBT network.

Samba and W2K AD
Hello All,
Your typical problem....I am trying to configure Samba-3.0.2-6.3E
on RedHat Linux. I have spent days trying to get this working. What I
would like to do is provide the ability to connect to Samba shares from
Windows, more specific, WinXP. What I want to avoid is having to manage
user accounts on both the Windows or AD side and the Unix side, thus
having authentication handled by

SID
Hello All,
I am running samba-3.0.4-6.3E using winbind for AD authentication.
I have a particular user that does not have a winbind sid associated
with the AD account (using wbinfo) thus the user cannot access the
shares. I did have to remove then recreate this account when I set it
up which I believe may have caused the problem. Is there a way I can
have the AD account regenerate a

rsync over commercial SSH?
I get the following error running rsync 2.5.2 on AIX 4.3 in combination
with SSH Secure Shell 2.3.0.

This is using the SSH Communications Security Corp version of ssh. I also
get the same error talking to another host which is also running commercial
ssh.

Redirected folders no longer working correctly
I have a new problem. I'm currently running Samba4 4.4.16 as an AD/DC. I've been running this
AD/DC for several years now. I am using redirected folders. Up to now, domain users logging
onto any domain member Windows workstation would get their desktop. Recently I discovered that
users now only get their desktop on their "usual" workstation, and the Desktop Target is in
fact

Windows Explorer hangs when clicking on a samba share
I am new to samba and Linux. I mapped a drive from my Windows XP
workstation to the /opt directory on the Linux box. When I am in Windows
Explorer and I am viewing the samba drive, I can click on any directory or
file on that drive, and the speed is very fast (like a local drive). If I
click on another drive and click on the samba drive again after five
minutes or so, my workstation hangs

Running puppet as non-root => getting rid of all those ownership warnings
I''m using puppet to manage configs on machines where I don''t have root
access. Whenever I use a File resource where the source is a puppet://
resource, I get tons of warnings when I run puppet that look like:
Cannot manage ownership unless running as root
True enough, I''m not running as root, but I also didn''t specifically
mention a "owner"

Trouble adding samba server to a domain
I'm trying to add a samba server to our company network. ?The samba version is 3.0.10 running on Fedora Core 1.
The problem I'm having is the Windows PCs (XP and 2000) that are trying to connect to the server won't recognize the hostname of the server - only the IP address. ?For example, putting in \\192.zzz.yyy.xxx will display the shares just fine, but putting in the hostname

[LLVMdev] github's llvm mirror down
Just curious, what's the reason we don't make the github mirrors the
official mirrors? ...besides not knowing how to revive them when they
go down. :)

[LLVMdev] github's llvm mirror down
> LLVM has its own mirror at http://llvm.org/git/llvm.git, if that suits your needs.
The llvm.org mirror seems to be quite a bit slower (~3.5x). I think
it's because github lets me use the git protocol whereas llvm.org
suggests http. When I try to clone "git at llvm.org:git/llvm.git", I'm
asked for a password for user 'git'.

Executing a telnet session from R
Colleagues
I am working in a Linux OS with R 2.6.2.
I need to execute a telnet session to another Linux machine from R,
perform some operations, then return to the original computer. When I
am in an R session, this is easy to accomplish by typing:
system("telnet -l username machinename")
I am then asked for my password; once that is entered, I am connected
to the remote

Interpolating variables within (RODBC library) SQL statements for MySQL
Hi everyone,
I am desperately looking for a method to interpolate strings within an SQL
statement as follows:
I get a lot of rows out of a database (in my example POSITION_to_ZIPCODE
Database with holds records for German ZIP Code <--> Gauss-Krueger
Coordinate System ) and want this to be selected and computed individually
row by row as follows:

Word 97 and permission problems
Question for Everyone,
We are running 1.9.18p8 on hpux 10.20. This particular machine has a
directory called docommon that is writable by anyone. The problem we
are having is that whenever someone opens a file with word 97, then
saves it, they own the file and the permissions are -rw-r--r--. Thus,
no one else can open the file. How can we make the files keep the
-rw-rw-rw setting? Please

[LLVMdev] compiler-rt tests in cmake?
As a temporary fix, you can replace this line in sanitizer_linux_libcdep.c:
const uptr kThreadDescriptorSize = FIRST_32_SECOND_64(1216, 2304);
with
const uptr kThreadDescriptorSize = FIRST_32_SECOND_64(1168, 2304);
The tests should pass after that. I need to figure out which ifdefs to put
this under, so I might not be able to land the fix until Monday.

[LLVMdev] compiler-rt tests in cmake?
Those changes shouldn't affect ARM at all, since everything is under #if
defined(__i386__) || defined(__x86_64__).
What version of glibc are you building with on x86?

[LLVMdev] compiler-rt tests in cmake?
> Cool, can you use clang 3.3 then? :)
I can, but digging deeper I see that the compiler-rt sanitizer tests depend
on just-built-clang for its object instrumentation. The next time the
instrumentation changes, I'd expect those tests to break. If the lit tests
that require -fsanitize were moved to the clang repo, then I think it'd be
safe to build compiler-rt with clang 3.3 or gcc

ipf stopped working on 5.3
I've had ipf working on a few 5.3 servers for quite awhile. Not too long ago
some developers had to do some coding work and were coming from dynamic
IP's. I (reluctantly) opened up SSH to the world. Immediately I started
seeing the attacks where bots of some sort would try to break in with a
variety of different users.
So, I (thought) I closed it up again and told the developers to use a

VOIP in Japan using Freebit
Has anyone had any experience using a VOIP provider in Japan?
No matter what I try, my REGISTER string kicks back one of 2 errors:

Got SIP response 400 "Bad Request" back from x.x.x.x
My register string is as follows:

I have tried the following also:
