Help!!!! Gettting samba core dumps
I transferred a Xen vm that was running on centos 5.7 with samba 3.6.3 to a centos 6.2 bare metal server with one E5502 and 16gig of memory. I have been running Centos for 6 years on different servers for 6 years on several different upgrades. This new server has a dual network card in it. I have samba 3.6.3 on it and here is the smb.conf below: [global] workgroup =

Howto: Extremely tight security rsync shell for backups
We've been using rsync since forever to back up all our servers and it's worked without a problem. But in a recent security review, we noted that our specific rsync backup host is using root keys to access the server, meaning that if the keys on the backup server were leaked/compromised in any fashion, that would provide r00t access to the servers being backed up. Since this

PROBLEM WITH PRINTERS.
Hi people, I have a print server using Debian, LPRNG and SAMBA working without any problems. Now I 'm trying to set up a new server with CentOS 6, CUPS and SAMBA. It 's a very simple setup: a few local users and a few printers, nothing special. The clients also map the printer using 'net use lpt1 \\mainserver\printerX' because they need to print over an old DOS application.

Samba 3 PDC & BDC Servers
I'm not sure what the configurations of the Primary and Backup servers should be to enable them to operate as a domain across a WAN. The original server has been running for some time as the master server, but now I am adding a second (backup) server at the remote site. The global section of the original server is: [global] log file = /var/log/samba/%m.log printer =

Can't get logon script option working with PDC
Environment: Samba 3.0.6 on FC2 as PDC (replacing an NT 4.0 PDC) Windows 98/ME/2K/XP desktops on the domain I can't seem to get "logon script" to function. My [netlogon] share exists, the batch file is there, and if I manually run \\MAINSERVER\netlogon\logon.bat, it runs just fine. However, it doesn't run on login. I set "log level" to 3 and poked through the

Printing with errors ...
Hi people, the following bug makes some error messages to appear al log level 0 when they are supposed to be al level 3. Any guy at the printer team could tell if I am safe printing with all those messages and why they are generated? Only a few computers are affected in my network. https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=10118 Thanks! On Oct 25, 2013 1:21 PM, "Ezequiel Larrarte"

rsync fails with "Permission denied" errors on random files over NFS
Hi I use rsync for daily backups from a mailserver. Every day the mailserver pushes backup to the backupserver. Cron runs the command: rsync -q -zrlpt --specials --chmod=Du+rwx \ --rsh 'ssh -F /root/ssh/config -i /root/ssh/private.key -o UserKnownHostsFile=/root/ssh/known_hosts' \ --files-from=/root/include \ --exclude-from=/root/exclude \ --link-dest=../previous \ /

Attaching to Netware-Server
Dear listmembers, recently our sysadmin turned off the support for ipx-protocol. Since then I found no way to mount my home-directory on the net (novell) on my linux box. Using ipx, I had had the same servername etc) I found a lot of discussions about the way vice versa, but no FM I could R to manage around this issue (i.e. mounting a Netware volume on a linux box). Anybody out there having an

Copied file becomes infinately large
I'm trying to back-up a set of windows machines onto a single Linux machine, so that I can easily make a tape from there. The Linux Machine (RedHat 7.3, running samba 2.2.6), is set to use mount.smbfs to log in to each machine's Administrative share, and copy several files from the hard drive. One machine is giving me a great deal of difficulty, however. Our last remaining window's

Copied file becomes infinate
Colin, I know that on Windows, when you copy and Immensely large single file, there are times when it will show something like 100 years in minutes to complete the copy. Your issue could be related to that issue with Windows. You say that you copy files over from several other systems without a problem. Are those files on the other systems single small files or are they also in

Still having trouble with copying large files
I had originally written about this problem last month (http://lists.samba.org/pipermail/samba/2002-November/085418.html) Since then, our company has added another Windows Fileserver which I'm trying to back up, and they are both having the problem. Because it happens on both servers, this leads me to believe it really is a problem with my Samba server. I've upgraded to 2.2.7a, as the

Domain with public shares
I have a samba server setup with security = user (NT-domain). I use openldap for authentiation and that part is working fine. People can log in and see the files they have permission to. I need to have some public folders on the samba server that anybody can use (also non domain users (ie. WinXP Home users that can't join a domain)). And the printers should be public in the same way.

scp partition "not a regular file"
Hi list, should it be possible to scp a partition with this command: scp /dev/sda7 backupserver:/backup/sda7.img I always get "not a regular file" - which is a clear and understandable error, but my googling tells me that some people are doing this - and it seems to work - at least at their systems. I know that I can avoid this by simply doing dd if=/dev/sda7 | ssh backupserver dd
