NIS schema clash
Hi list, I'm trying to set up an OpenLDAP server to provide the goodies for samba and postfix running on the same box - SUSE 9.2 Pro The trouble start fairly early, unfortunately. I'm following the idealx.org documentation, which suggest using samba.schema as well as inetorgperson.schema and nis.schema. (John Terpstra's book suggest this as well). There seems to be a conflict

weird permission problem
Hi all, I setup a DC for a company who until now have been using standalone WindowsXP Pro desktops in a "workgroup." Initially I just added the users, standard setup. They all belong to the group "users." Then they asked for a limited group to have access to the financial folders. So I added a group "financial" and limited access to users in the financial group.

samba + pptp
Hi guys, I have samba domain controller running at a client. It's a fairly simple and straightforward setup, uses smbpasswd for auth, nothing fancy. The client wants to be able to vpn in and access their files. I setup pptp, and use the built in WindowsXP client. After establishing the vpn connection, I can access the domain controller. I get asked for my username and pass - type in

Samba 2.2 to 3.0.9 DC upgrade problems
Hi all, I just replaced a client's SUSE 8.0/Samba 2.2 DC with a SUSE 9.2/Samba 3.0.9 DC. Drives were giving trouble, and since that box was a first attempt at a linux DC there was a lot of room for improvement. I copied the profiles and home directories over to the new machine, chowned them to the new users. I also did extracted the securid from the old DC and set it to the new one

LDAP+samba dc docs
Hi, Could someone please point me towards good documentation for setting up samba3 as a DC and using ldap for authentication. The part I'm having trouble with is setting up ldap in the right way, and the ldap docs are a bit confusing. I'm also looking for good docs on upgrading a DC from samba2.x to samba3, while upgrading the whole OS (SuSE 8.0 to SUSE 9.2). I have extracted the

MS SQL server and samba
Hi guys, I setup a Samba box to act as a backup server (storage), for the windows servers to dump their backups on. The MS SQL 2000 server won't see the samba box. Windows it self does, but SQL not. Even if I map a network path to a local drive, it still doesn't see it, so I cannot point the backups that way. Is there any special trick to getting this to work? Thanks Hans

Files =>2GB"
Hello to the list, We have installed samba 3.0.12 on a solaris sparc server , mainly acting as a backup-server. Now the problem: Some user want to save whole disk-images on their shares which exceed the 2 GB limit. Now my question: Do i need to compile with option "-m64" , or is the underlaying FS responseable for a successful action Kind regards martin schreiber

Any advice for installing Samba as an AD server on Raspbian Buster with BIND9 and ISC DHCP?
Thanks for your advice, Rowland > > Yes, I am setting up a new Samba-based AD DC. > If you are joining? to an existing domain, then you cannot be setting up > a new domain ;-) Yes - joining a new DC to an existing domain. > > Should I install BIND9 and DHCP first, then install Samba and do the join? > > I personally would do it in stages, set up the Rpi, add

host and vm on isolated network, there is ip (via dhcp) but not ping
Greetings, I've setup an vm with openwrt in it, defined a isolated lan between the vm and the host and booted the vm up. I see the vm is up, made sure the vnic is visible in both the host and guest and added it to the br in the guest. I've issued an dhcpd call on the vnic (labeled vnic0) in the host and got an ip, see: dagg@NCC-5001D ~ $ dhcpcd vnet0 DUID

Email server
Hi guys, I am a newbie so please bear with me here. The question is not really related to Samba but to Red Hat. I want to install some EMail Server program on my RH 9 so that I could use my Red Hat PC as email server. Do you guys know of any program that I can use? By the way I installed RH9 with all options, so I guess I would have something inside my PC that would serve this prrpose that I

libguestfs can't communicate over network while creating VM
Hello guys, we use libguests for dynamic creation of our VM and we do various modifications of those VMs in the process. One with I am struggling with is to signing keys of our custom repository - " vm.sh("wget -O - " + key_address + " | apt-key add -")" where "vm" is a GuestFS object. So I have set "vm.set_network(True)" and I have installed

[PATCH v2] appliance init: find NIC name for dhcpcd
dhcpcd requires an interface name as parameter to work. We are now getting it from /proc/sys/net/ipv4/conf/ folder children. dhclient on Debian also has the problem, thus use the guessed interface name for it too. --- appliance/init | 5 +++-- 1 file changed, 3 insertions(+), 2 deletions(-) diff --git a/appliance/init b/appliance/init index cca62e7..d5a428d 100755 --- a/appliance/init +++

Connecting to internet with USB tethered iphone
I am trying to get a centos 6 system on the internet with a tethered iPhone. I can see the phone with lsusb as bus 001 device 011. A post on stackoverflow said I would need to run "# ip link set usb0 up && dhcpcd usb0" But how do I reference my phone in that command?
