vsifax on Centos 5.1
All....
I am trying to install vsifax on a 64 bit Centos 5.1 system. The Esker
staff have been helpful but no cigar.
At first they thought the problem might be related to a 64 bit machine
so I tried to install vsifax on a 32 bit Centos 5.1 machine and received
the same error.
One of their installation scripts is trying to execute a binary called
eula which fails.
./eula: cannot execute

Set primary group of file on samba share from windows
Hi all!
I want to use 'acl group control' setting to delegate privileges to specific
administrators.
Unfortunately, I'm unable to set the primary group using windows file
permissions dialog, I can only add and remove ACL groups.
I tried to do this by removing all groups but one from Windows. This doesn't
work: the primary group has all privs removed and the extra group is

Samba 3 joined to samba 4 - problems with permissions on S3 server
Hi all,
I am testing samba3 joined to a samba 4 domain controller.
Most things appear to be working okay - just not printer drivers and
file permissions.
Machines can join the domain and use resources on the Samba 3 server, etc.
I can change permissions to my hearts content on the Samba4 shares, just
not Samba3.
I cannot however set any permissions on shares or add printer drivers to
the Samba

pcl to pdf
Everyone,
I am currently using a vsifax program (pcltotiff) to convert pcl files
to tiff files on a SCO Unix box, and then I am using tiff2pdf on a
Centos 5.9 box to convert the file to a pdf.
There are other commands that deal with multiple page tiff's and pdf's
that are part of the process, but the above basic process has worked
very well. The only thing I would like to enhance is a

ZFS ACL Support
Hello,
I am running Samba 3.0.28 on a Solaris 10 8/07 x86_64 machine.
Directory services and authentication are provided by MS Active
Directory's LDAP and Kerberos.
My problem is that, when attempting to add an ACE to a file from Windows
(XP, SP2), I get an error saying "Access Denied". The share is a
directory on a ZFS filesystem (NFSv4 ACLs). Below is the share definition:

Can't set ACL on Samba
Hi everybody,
i'm getting mad configuring samba to join an ADS, resolve domain
users and groups and set ACLs via windows explorer on a share mounted
with POSIX ACL and extended attributes.
At the point where i am, i've managed to get Samba join correctly the
domain with idmap_rid backend working fine.
I can correctly set (add, remove, modify) file acls and extended
attributes

Samba 3.0.20 acls not working anymore and problem with winbindd_idmap.tdb
Hi Folks,
I am experiencing some problems with samba 3.0.20 which I can not solve
on my own. We have updated from samba 3.0.10 to samba 3.0.20, but I am
not sure when the problems started.
We had a problem with idmap - I had hoped to solve - before. Whenever
we rebooted the server, all of the ACLs got jumbled up. I thought that
our winbindd_idmap.tdb somehow got broken. I re-created it, but

Bug samba 2.0.4 ?
Hi
I just installed Samba 2.0.4 under Solaris 2.5.1
Now when someone trys to save a MS Word file to his home directory on
the SUN he gets a "not enough permissions"
msg.
Looking on the unix side I see a file ~WRD1741.tmp with permissions of
000 .
I upped the log level to 3 and found this ..
call_nt_transact_set_security_desc: file = forNT/~WRD1741.tmp, sent 0x7

saving from word & excel
hi,
we're using a samba-server over DSL using openVPN and the speed is very
good at browsing directories and quite OK at loading/saving files except
for word & excel where it takes about 20-30 seconds to save even a small
file.
which is no wonder because the following happens in log.smbd when i click
"save" in word, it obviously checks for a bazillion tmp- and lockfiles (

I'm using Samba with ldap and while I can create users just fine with usrmgr (logged in as myself, but when I delete a user, it

Re: FW: SAMBA+ACL+XFS
Paul,
Your samba does have ACLs support built-in. Please check that your system has
the ACLs support libraries. Since you are using kernel 2.4.x you need to have
the bestbits acls support libraries installed on your machine. Check the
documentation for XFS to see how to mount the XFS file system so it has ACLs
support.
You should manually be able to set POSIX ACLs using the setfacls utility.

Making Samba 3.2.3 and ACL work
Hello!
I'm running samba 3.2.3 on my Ubuntu 8.10 server installation.
I'm trying to use ACL in order to get extended user permission
administration, but cannot make it work.
My samba shares are on a ext3 partition, and i have enabled ACL in fstab.
setting and getting ACL permissions on my files directly works like a charm.
But when my users try to access files via samba they cannot

Cygwin build fails because headers no longer default to Solaris ACL
Unfortunately I don't know how to write AC macros to properly solve this problem but Cygwin does not (any longer) include cygwin/acl.h from sys/acls.h which is required for Solaris ACL data structures to work. So the CASE statement improperly short-circuits the logic.
I have confirmed that Rsync builds using POSIX ACLs but haven't tested said functionality.

[3.0.2] Trouble using ACLs: wrong file permissions after write/cr eate
Hi everybody,
I have a problem with Samba 3.0.2 using POSIX ACLs for shares.
File written from an ACL group/user will get wrong permissions
and are unchangeable for other users.
First the important informations about the configuration and
the setup:
a) Base system: Debian 3.0.1 with all updates
b) Samba: Self compiled binary within /opt/samba-3.0.2
