WINS and multiple samba servers one subnet
Hi, I think I am not getting WINS to work correctly in my network. Here is the setup, any advise would be greatly appreciated: 3 Samba servers: 1. IBBFILE (Old samba server 2.2.8) being replaced by GT-IBB. I have moved about 70% of the users already. 2. GT-IBB (New samba server to replace IBBFILE samba-3.0.10-1.4E RHEL) 3. GT-BIOLAB (Samba server for students samba-3.0.10-1.4E RHEL). 4.

Horrendously slow transfer speeds in FC3 is drivingmecrazy!!! Please help... - SOLVED!
Thanks for the tip but recompiling the latest version was the second thing I did after trying and failing to tweak the smb.conf on my original hardware conf. I found that compiling it for my specific architecture (i686) increased my performance by 100% (from a punny 0.8 MB/s to a better but still punny 1.6 MB/s). -----Original Message----- From: Diego Julian Remolina

directory permissions
I have just finished replacing a client's Windows / Exchange / IIS setup here with Samba / [Postfix, UW Imap] / Apache and I've run into an issue. In this setup, Samba acts as PDC, so there are NO WINDOWS SERVERS - only win clients. One of the apps that they run seems to explicitly require that the user own the folder that they are saving to. In their prior setup, this was easy, as

Lastest upgrade of smb on RedHat doesn't work
The latest upgrade of from samba 3.0.9 to samba 3.0.10 has caused problems on my samba server. On the Windows computers you can no longer see the WINS server ( the RedHat server) in the Network Neighborhood, say server1. The printers that we have added through the network neighborhood no longer work. One has to search for the full name of the server ( server1.xxx.xxx.edu) with the

Network transfer speed issues in RHEL4
I am in need of some help with a speed issue on a test Red Hat server. The server is running RHEL4 ES Update 4. When copying a file using FTP it transfers at 19GB per hour, but when copying via SMB it transfers at 3-4GB per hour. The network card on the server is Intel 10/100. When copying using samba a simple cp -av command is used. I have tested when this server is part of Active Directory and

Problem with a domain controller that is located in a separate site
I was running samba 4.21 as a domain controller and now I see this situation , I have empty outbound neighbors, but if you look from the windows side, then this is the difference between windows controllers and samba, for some reason the repsTo attribute is not filled, for example, the configuration context, although windows controllers have both attributes fully filled, although they are the same

Problem with a domain controller that is located in a separate site
thanks for the video provided, I watched it, I didn't understand something very well, but still, as I understand it, in order for the sites to start communicating with each other, a linked site link is needed, and also if there is only one dc on the site, we tell him to act as breadgehead, which I did in the screenshots below, but this did not affect the creation of ntdsconnections, but as I

Problem with a domain controller that is located in a separate site
I decided to look for something about the reps-to attribute and this is what I came across in ms ADTS, it turns out that the attribute should be filled in, but for some reason this does not happen in samba when one is on a separate site, who can I contact who is working on kcc? It seems to me that this is the problem there, Rowland, what do you think? A precondition for event-driven replication

Packet capture to analysis the tinc connection close
Hi, All Recently, one of my tinc client always suffer connection drop, I was suspect the connection was not stable to cause this issue, and BTW, I’ve set the PingTimeout to 10 seconds already, but this situation still happens a lot sometimes, but when the connection drop happens, the connection recovery pretty fast, normally in a minutes. In order to deep dive into the cause, or proven the

Hidden links on ROR Wiki
Hello list members, Today I noticed on http://wiki.rubyonrails.com/rails/pages/WorkingProfessionallyWithRails that there were a ton of spam links in the source code that I couldn''t see on the page itself. Upon careful examination I found the links to be hidden: I am posting the content here for reference and to show patterns of spam: <u

Hi, Wondering if anyone can help with a weird issue I'm having - Just set up a new server (RHEL 7.4) and have migrated my samba configuration from my old server (Fedora 25), I'm experiencing an issue where by if my the name of my workgroup a domain i.e. it has a period in it, then none of my Linux clients can detect the broadcast and smbtree on both client and server is completely empty.
