windbind stopped working
I recently upgraded my PDC's and BDC's to 3.0.14a but my member servers
are still running 3.0.10. Today users complained that the couldn't
logon to the member server. When I try to run a wbinfo -u I get:
Error looking up domain users
Here's the log.windbindd:

PAM sending wrong username to Winbind
Hi All,
I am unable to authenticate users through pam_winbind.
"wbinfo -u", "wbinfo -g", "getent passwd", "getent group", "wbinfo -a
DOMAIN\\Administrator%password" all work and suggest that samba and
winbind are correctly configured.
For some strange reason PAM seems to be sending Winbind "NOUSER" as the
username to authenticate

WINS resolution not working on WINS Server
Hi Samba Users,
I'm using a typical Samba/LDAP Solution. My PDC is running samba 3.0.14a
on RHEL4. This is also my acting WINS server.
WINS resolution appears to be working fine for all other PC's on the
network. It works for my BDC, and Domain member servers and the various
windows clients on the network. However WINS does not appear to work on
the PDC itself.
On the pdc i have the

PAM sending wrong username to Winbind (fwd)
Hi All,
I have tried logging into ftp using my NT username and password and it
works. It is only SSH which has this problem.

failing WINS test #1
Hi Samba users,
I'm using a typical Samba 3.0.14a PDC/Ldap setup. The pdc is also the
WINS server.
The wins server is working perfectly with one exception. The server
cannot query itself.
I searched through log.nmbd and this is what i found :

samba 3.0.7 cannot join NT4 domain
I looked into the docs and searched thru the Net.
Googling for "NT_STATUS_PIPE_NOT_AVAILABLE"
yields rather large list of questions about
this situatins, but no working hints so far.
I believe my samba installation is done very carefully
(entirely unlike "grab rpm and be happy" style)
and I can try to find out what's going on.
Let me describe what do I have so far:

3.0.7 net join to NT4 domain - silently fails?
I've got no responce to my mail with subject
'samba 3.0.7 cannot join NT4 domain', so I dug deeper.
I also read carefully these docs:

This is what I observe:

Can't connect from Windows
I am setting up my first 3.0.1 installation. I am using Slackware 9.1, I am
trying to connect to a Windows 2000 Server. I do not need active directory
support (as far as I know). The server's function is a file server. So
Users need seamless authentication... of course. I do not have LDAP
installed. It's a plain server besides the 3ware RAID.
I compiled and installed samba 3.0.1,

Problem with wbinfo
Hello,
I'm using a Samba client to access a Samba Server. The "smbclient
tool" is ok, both at the client as at the server. I'm having trouble
with the "wbinfo" command (winbind service) at the client, as you can
see below.
Can anybody help me?
Thanks!!!

error: prs_mem_get: reading data of size 60 would overrun buffer.
Hello everyone,
we try to use a server running linux in an NT-domain and get the error message
given in the subject-line. More details from the logfile and smb.conf are given below.
Can anyone give us a hint what the problem is?
(Of course...) The problem is very urgent for us.
Thanks a lot in advance.

Samba 3.6.9 on Centos 6.4 and very slow first access to fileserver
Hello good people,
I am fighting with following issue: our users are complaining about very
slow/delayed displaying of main folders during accessing server using
\\dns.name.of.server (using \\IP or \\netbios_name is it with same
slowness). But once they are authenticated, displaying contents of
(sub-)folders are getting normal.
Once the user hit "enter" key on

I messed up winbind....but what is wrong?
I had posted about winbind picking the wrong domain to this list about a
week ago and this was the problem I was still trying to solve when I must
have messed something else up.
SO! Winbind WAS working (even though it was picking the wrong domain)
I re-ran smbpasswd -j LMC -r <our PDC> -U administrator
I get prompted for the password, enter it and I am told that I joined the

Messages in Logwatch / Long usernames
Every day I get emailed Logwatch reports with several entries of the
following type. I've tried googling for these entries and found nothing
that indicats if these represent any particular problem. We did not have
these messages before and nothing really changed other than some RedHat
updates. The system generally runs fine (~170 users) with only the
occasional authentication glitch.

Unable to access Samba Domain Member
Hi,
I'm trying to connect to a Samba Domain Member, but I always end up with
the same strange error.
The PDC (authenticating againt LDAP) and the server itself (Lobo) are
Samba 3.0.2a-1 (Debian). I first
tried to connect from my Windows client. It gave me the following error:
"\\Lobo is not accessible. The specified network name is no longer

Winbind weirdness, seems to join wrong domain
Hi
Samba/NT Domain controller newbie... please be gentle :^)
I'm trying to configure a customer RH EL 3 server running samba 3.0.2 to use
winbind to enable samba (and indeed sshd or telnet etc.) to authenticate
users against MS NT Domain controllers..
The domain the samba server should join is named LEEDS, note that the NT
systems (there are several BDC's on the local subnet) are out of

Log shows NT4 for an ADS domain
I'm trying to learn about the interactions between SAMBA and win2k DCs. The
eventual goal is to have a Win2k server with ADS working with a freeBSD
SAMBA server. I've used the setup from
http://oslabs.mikro-net.com/fbsd_samba.html as the basis for what I've done
so far. Winbind seems to work and I can show users and groups using wbinfo
although I see some things in the logs that I

winbind + PC-NetLink
Hi EveryBody!
We have a NT 4.0 Domain using SUN PC-NetLink 2.0 . I'd like to join a Samba
server , but I cannot!
The version of the samba is 2.2.8a running on SuSE Linux 9.0 Professional.
The configuration file of samba containing this:
# smb.conf is the main Samba configuration file. You find a full commented
# version at /usr/share/doc/packages/samba/examples/smb.conf.SuSE

winbind debugging help.. act 2
Folks,
Not even a peep. Did I ask the wrong question or am I on the wrong
list? I don't mind pointers to more information....
I own both the recent books on Samba 3 and they are very good, but I seem
to be missing something.
Anyways...
Thanks and hope to hear from you soon,
