2nd try: Cross subnet browsing wierdness
I'm having some difficulties setting up browsing across networks and domains and was hoping some of you folks out there could help. We have two separate domains on two separate networks. I have a single WINS server. Why can I browse both networks from machine pw2 when I can NOT browse both from either ch2 or mtoal (my machine) or from streetsmary? (see details below). Cross-Subnet Browsing Problem
Hi all, I've had cross-subnet browsing working in Samba in the past, though I tend to struggle with it each time I set it up. For whatever reason, I can't seem to get things working this time. Summary: Only my desktop, not the file server, shows up in the desktop's Network Neighborhood. (I have left the machines running for several hours, in case there's a time-to-sync issue

nmbd hangs up after a few hours, kill -9 needed
Hi I?ve been seeing this issue since we updated from Samba 2.X to 3.Y, and I wanted to know if anyone has seen this: I have a samba PDC mantaining a domain composed of WinXP, Win200 and win98 machines with shared folders and user authentication (smbpasswd). It works fine for hours but then everybody stops being able to logon. When anyone tries to login in a WinXP machine, it only replies

UNICAST cross-subnet browsing, Port 445 vs. 139, and Win2k
I have been having a heck of a time getting cross subnet browsing to work properly. After MANY hours hunting through source and debug logs, I have FINALLY found the source of my browsing issues. My Samba nmdb properly becomes the LMB for my segment on a WAN. I VPN to my servers at the home office and Samba attempts to sync with the DMB. nmbd properly locates the DMB via WINS over the

Help! Can browse from one subnet but not another.
I'm having some difficulties setting up browsing across networks and domains and was hoping some of you folks out there could help. We have two domains on two physically separate networks, connected via a firewall/router. To my knowledge the firewall system is not set to block anything between the two segments, just to route them. Network 192.168.18.0, CH domain 192.168.18.14 ch1 (rh7.3, CH

Samba4 as DC and Neighborhood browsing (nmbd functionality) !
At the moment if Samba4 acts as DC (domain controller) it doesn' t support neighborhood browsing, that is computers in a local group are not visible in network neighborhood. I have not been remaining think about working of the functionality. And have found this one: http://forge.univention.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=30132 I am not a programmer but may be it will be useful for easier and

subnet browsing
we have samba [mostly] working in a VPN application connecting two Mandrake subnets using SSH. if all machines define the same workgroup name, and we define a single domain master browser, (with the other subnet defined as a preferred, local, master browser,) and a single WINS server, after a little while, all shares are visible to all WIN9x machines. this samba stuff is fantastic! 2 questions:

Nbfw, Cross-subnet browsing
Hi, I'm currently using the nbfw (netbios forwarder - http://nbfw.sourceforge.net/) patch with samba on a linux masquerading firewall/router. It works pretty well. I was wondering if there was plan to include this patch in samba (or TNG) I was also wondering if there was any way to use this as a mean to do cross-subnet browsing efficient. The paradox is that browsing works better between a

Browsing a workgroup in another subnet
I'm trying to determine if the global configuration options for remote announce and remote browse sync work for browsing a different workgroup in a different subnet. In the books I have, it just talks about using these options to span the same workgroup across two subnets. In our situation, for example, I have two different workgroups (WG1 - 10.50.50.1 and WG2 - 10.100.50.1). Each of these
