Problem with roaming profiles on upgrade from 2.2 to 3.0
I have quite a few samba installations, and I've had problems with
roaming profiles when upgrading from Samba 2.2 to 3.0. My servers run
Debian stable, which uses Samba 2.2.3, with security patches. At some
point Debian will release a new stable version with a recent Samba 3.0
release. Right now I'm testing a few servers with a samba 3.0.10
backport to make sure the transition will go

PDC, usrmgr.exe created user lacks profile info
I'm finally near the end (I hope) of setting samba 3.0.14a as a PDC on a
debian sarge, but I (and google, and list archive) can't manage to find
a solution.
When I add user with the help of usrmgr on my XP box, user is created
both in linux and samba (thanks user add script), but lacks profile info
(I mean Home Directory, HomeDir Drive, Logon Script and Profile Path),
so roaming profile

winbind -t fails to check secret
Hi All,
I have just upgraded from Samba 3.0.7 to 3.0.20 on mandrake 10.1
Before upgrading I could add a machine account and admin (root) user to the password
backend, join to the domain and check the trust secret. All was well.
wbinfo -a name%password would authenticate, as I require for ntlm_auth with squid
(which was working well).
Now with the same layout, I do this :-

PDC: Strange username translations...
Hi,
i'm running a samba PDC on samba 3.0 and just had to reinstall the server
because of a dead cpu causing corruption.
luckily i had complete backups of the samba-files, so i copied them back to
/etc/samba, /var/lib/samba and /var/cache samba. (tdb-files)
i had one workstation (xp) removed from the domain and wanted to add it
again, but then the station always gives me an error that i

pdbedit - can't set password expiry, etc?
Hi All
Have recently moved from a machine running 2.2 to a new machine running
3.0.10-1. I've just converted the smbpasswd database to tdbsam as I
understand password ageing etc does not work with smbpasswd. I've set
the line 'passdb backend = tdbsam' in the smb.conf, restarted the daemon
and now I'm trying to force a user account to have to change his
password the next time

Q about net groupmap examples on samba.org
Considering the following page...
http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/guide/small.html
First of, my compliments to John for some great examples to study.
In my mind I see three levels of security:
1) Linux - such as SSH'ing into the Linux server, Linux accounts and groups come into play here
2) Samba PDC - "Domain Admins" "Domain Users" come into play here. Examples

machine account with w2k
Dear Samba Friends,
I've a problem to join with Windows2000-Clients a Samba-PDC.
When I join the samba-pdc with a WinNT4.0-Client it is no problem, first
I create a machine-account for the machine:
1. in /etc/group exists the group: machines:x:515:
2. useradd -g machines -d /dev/null -c nickname -s /bin/false neuch205$
3. pdbedit -a -m -u neuch205
In this way, it isn't a problem to join

Unchangeable "Password must change: Fri, 13 Dec 1901 21:45:51 MET "
Hello Group,
I've been reading many posts but i still don't have the answer to how to force a password change or set a password lifetime.
I'm using w2k clients which connect to a samba PDC version 3.0.10 on a basic SunOS 5.8 system, no ldap or so.
syncing the ux-passwords and the smb-passwords works perfect,
but i can't get it working to force users to change passwords.

passdb.tdb not updated when changing passwords
I'm using samba on CentOS 3.7 (3.0.9 + rh patches)
I had smbpasswd as backend and I'm testing migration to tdbsam.
After exporting successfully to tdbsam and setting
passdb backend = tdbsam
in smb.conf
if I change from inside a windows xp machine the password ot the user and then
pdbedit-Lv user
I get

Hi,
I setup a samba pdc, it works great. I have one question, how can I change

For example, logon and logoff time didn't change for that user "david".

Domain logon through VPN with WINS
Hi!
I'm experiencing some serious problems setting up Samba as PDC. File sharing works fine and I can even add my computer to the domain, but when I reboot I can't log in with my samba username and password. I've previously set up similiar server, though it wasn't trough VPN. I'm running latest Debian Etch with every package upgraded. I've also tried some older samba

I'd suggest -mdo-what-i-mean; the whole idea is horribly
underspecified, and basically rips up the LangRef in favour of a
nebulous set of good and bad optimizations (probably as dictated by
the ones that
