WinXP/x64 - MFC CFile objects leak parent directory handles
Samba 3.0.28-0.1.95-1624-SUSE-SL10.3 A strange problem (best read in a proportional font). It only happens on an x64 XP client when accessing a Samba share. The exact same program runs fine on the same x64 XP client when the share accessed is on a Windows server or when it is run on a 32-bit XP client, regardless of whether the share belongs to a Samba server or to a Windows server. I have

Samba 3 smbstatus not as good
I use a lot of "force user" and "force group" directives on various shares. With smbstatus of Samba 2 I could always verify with a glance what uid and gid a particular service is being accessed as, with Samba 3 you can't. I'd REALLY like to see that come back to smbstatus. Here's a real world example of my complaint... Samba 2 smbstatus output... Samba version

Rsync 2.6.9pre3 released
I've just released rsync 2.6.9pre3. This should be the last version before the final 2.6.9 release, and I don't foresee any significant changes between it and the final release. Please test this out and email the rsync mailing list with any questions, comments, bug reports, etc. Thanks! Here are direct links for the tar file and its signature:

Trust between SAMBA and NT server
Hello, I'm having problems getting the SAMBA domain to trust an NT domain. The following is how I went about the exercise: 1. On the NT domain, I added the SAMBA domain A/C in the TRUSTING DOMAINS list, providing a certain password. 2. On the SAMBA domain, I executed the following command feeding the same password given in step 1, but without success: [root@cobra root]# net rpc trustdom

ISOdate returns incorrect date?
Dear all, I have found the following (for me) incomprehensible behaviour of ISOdate (POSIXct): > ISOdate(1900,6,16) [1] "1900-06-15 14:00:00 Westeurop?ische Sommerzeit" > ISOdate(1950,6,16) [1] "1950-06-16 14:00:00 Westeurop?ische Sommerzeit" Note that in the first case I get the 15th of June back, not the 16th as I would have expected! This happened under R-1.7.1 on

IAX1 vs IAX2 for IAXtel
G'day list, I am getting a lot[1] of traffic on my Internet link, ICMP messages from 69.73.19.178 telling me UDP port 5036 is unreachable (this IP address belongs to iaxtel.org). I see from the wiki that IAXtel supports only IAX2 from December 2003. Fine, however it looks like my * still wants to try and register using IAX1, and I can't find how to turn this off. This situation is

Solaris 10 and "store dos attributes"
I'm having trouble with files being marked read-only in Windows because the Solaris file owner does not have write-permissions on the file; group-write is allowed: -r--rw---- 1 user group 32 Feb 13 14:19 testfile.txt I thought that setting "store dos attributes = yes" for this share would allow the "read only" setting to be stored in extended attributes, but it

CentOS 5 and Broadcom wireless
I've got CentOS 5 installed on my hp pavilion ze 5300 laptop and the network configuration UI says my wireless NIC has been correctly identified and assigned what appears to be the right Broadcom device driver on eth1. However, the inteface doesn't come up. Google doesn't find anything recent about using Linux with Broadcom except for someone's passing remark that Ubuntu 7 beta

CentOS5 + lighttpd (EPEL) - fix Chrome security warning?
Apologies if I should ask this elsewhere, google search is not helping. I've got a CentOS5 server with lighttpd installed from EPEL, configured for https only (no connections on ports other than 443). I have the latest security updates for openssl, etc. However, when connecting to the server with recent Chrome from Windows or Android, I get the "Your connection is not private"

Repeat Review Request
Folks, I like criticism! Please give me lots of it - particularly in respect of the updated "Samba-Guide". It should now be up on the Samba mirror sites. You can download it from: http://www.samba.org/samba/docs/Samba-Guide.pdf I have incorporated all feedback into this book. Did I get it right this time or should I give up? So far, not a word of feedback is deafening! Is it

Firefox3 for CentOS4 -- dependency on evolution28 packages?
I'd been putting off installing the FX3 packages because of some extensions I use that don't have upgrades. [*] However, when FX1.5 crashed on me today I decided to finally go ahead. Fired up yum and I'm told I have to install a slew of evolution28 library packages in order to install the firefox package. Why? I removed evolution from my system for a reason, and I'd just as
