Help! problems with Arcserve. Can someone decrypt the logs ?
Hi everyone,
We use samba 2.0.4 and are very glad of it. However, recently I had to add a
backup facility on our network, so we plan to purchase Arcserve IT for NT,
in order to backup our servers. We are using mainly 3 Linux servers and 1 NT
server, which runs the backup service.
However, as Itried to add a simple share on the file server to enable
backup, later I encounter problems with

Win2k, Domain logon, permissions
I first asked this question at the end of October, got a response which
didn't solve the problem, and have finally got back to the issue now.
I'm running 2.2.7a, recently upgraded from 2.2.0 as Domain Logons for
Win2K were suspected to be part of my problem. Anyway, the issue
relates to AutoCAD (actually a vertical product called Land3) and a
command which works with winXX boxes, but

smbd -D processes spawn out of control
All,
I'm running the latest stable version of SerNet-Samba on a Debian Sarge
box (I switched from the traditional Samba package for certain reasons
which I won't delve into here), but I've come across a serious issue.
Every day, the Samba processes become so numerous that the server begins
acting really flaky. That is to say, there are so many smbd -D
processes that the server

tklistbox and extracting selection to R
Dear experts,
I am trying to understand why is it that when I paste (into the R console) the following code to select an option from a list:
require(tcltk)
tt<-tktoplevel()
tl<-tklistbox(tt,height=ntx,selectmode="single",background="white")
tkgrid(tklabel(tt,text="Select the legend of" ))

Old application very slow
Hi,
This weekend I migrated a samba-server to new hardware and software :
I'm running samba 3.2.7-11.3.2 on Opensuse 11.1.
Everything works fine I believe except for an old DOS-application,
written in Clipper. It's too slow to be usable. I tried to debug this
but I'm stuck.
I put the loglevel to 10, but I can't see anything wrong.
I first added to veto oplock files :

At an account running 3.0.14a Debian (same account as the dual log file

Syslinux: Multi-Disks [feature]
Hi,
I'm the maintainer ROCK Linux (www.rocklinux.org). We are using isolinux
on our Install-CDs for x86 systems.
We - as most other distributions too - are running in the problem that
even minimalistc kernels are slowly growing and sometimes don't fit on
1.44 MB floppies anymore.
2.5.x kernels with initramfs are even bigger than 2.88 MB in some cases...

samba 2.2.7a and multiple logins...
Hello
I use a new samba server with LDAP support as PDC for some Windows2000
and WindowsXP machines.
All is working nice. The useer can login with a user/password in the
domain, we have remote profiles, the user can access the samba shares
and print etc.
But after some time (< 1 day) we get a smbstatus output like the
attached file. Users are connected multiple times with the same share

Winbind queries take longer than 1m30s to complete
When I say winbind query I mean from `wbinfo -u` to a simple `getent passwd SAMDOM\\user`.
When the winbind cache is small, clients that use a program in a network share of this server get
timeouts while using the program, due to the cache expiring and the query to the PDC taking too, long.
I've worked around that by setting a winbind cache time longer than the span of work hours and a cron

I've been working solidly on this for the last 2 days but don't seem to be
getting anywhere. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.
I've found that once a file has been opened, smbstatus shows the file is
locked as expected (see below)

Locking for Linux/WinXP clients (-or- CIFS issues)
Hi...
I've been running samba 3.0 for quite some time now (Debian's stable
version, currently 3.0.14) and I've had no problems. That's probably
been because all my clients were Windows XP boxes. I've now moved
several users to Linux (Ubuntu Breezy) as their desktop and I've noticed
there seems to be a problem in accessing files across the platforms.

Samba client file locking
Hello,
I am trying to work out the file locking mechanism on our Samba server when
connecting from Linux clients. I am getting some strange behaviour in a
mixed Linux/Windows environment when multiple clients open/lock the same
file for writing. Everything seems fine when a Windows client creates the
lock, but if a Linux client creates the lock, we get either two or more
Linux clients being able
