Re: Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
Hello Matt,
I've had similar misfortunes too with interdomain trusts. I think
you're working along the right lines since you seem to want to do the
same thing as I.
However the NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL is an error I always get when trying
to connect to the IPC$ share of the PDC of the trusting domain. In my
case the trusting PDC is a Windows 2003 Server.
I know it's not an issue

Need some guidance re: two domains sharing the same workstations
I fought with this a few months back, and was never able to resolve it, so
I'm back at it trying to get things to work before classes start again in
January. Here's a brief summary of the situation:
I am responsible for 2 departments, Math and Socialwork, which are located
in the same building and share the same network. Each department has its own
samba server (RHEL4/CentOS4) and domain

Samba 3.0.0, LDAP and multiples domains
Hi all,
Can samba have multiples domains in a single OU on ldap ?
Cause I have 2 separate samba domains, many users in the same OU depending
on one or the other domain (not 2 at the same time, the SID is refering to
only one domain), and every user can log into the 2 domains without
interdomain trust...
Is it a normal feature ?
(Yes it's a configuration a little twisted, I know ;))

Migrate profiles from one domain to another
Hi all,
I need to migrate profiles from one running domain to another. I can't use
the standard Windows Profile tools, because when I am a member of one domain,
profiles for the other domain say "Account Unknown" and the Copy function is
disabled. I can't get interdomain trusts working and have no responses to my
email about that, so I am looking for another way to get

Samba4 trust between AD and NT domains
dear experts,
is it possible to set a interdomain trust between an AD domain
(samba-4.7.4) and an NT4 domain (samba-4.7.4 again)?
My naive experiments have failed so far.
If AD trusts NT:
"samba-tool domains trust" cmd on AD controller seems to look for
another AD domain: can't contact NT domain. Did I overlook some
configuration switch?
If NT trusts AD:
I can not create a

Samba-LDAP interdomain trust
I'm trying to create a trust between two Samba-LDAP domains (on a single
server).
I'm following Samba Howto Collection
(http://us3.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-HOWTO-Collection/NetCommand.html#id335566)
but I'm getting the error below.

Samba LDAP PDC, BDC + Shared Interdomain Trust secret
Hi there,
I have a Samba PDC and BDC migrated from NT4 using ldapsam with an
interdomain trust to a 2k3 domain. The trust is established both ways
and was made from the pdc. Using samba 3.0.14a-sernet on Suse 9.1
The trust is working. I can pull users from the trusted domain and apply
them to acls on my samba DMS. Winbind adds the idmap entry correctly.
What is not working, is authentication from

interdomain trusts / wbinfo and listent_recv: returned no users
As per earlier post, I was having problems getting trusts setup between
my Samba domain (3.0.x PDC, 3.4.x BDC on Solaris 10) and two Active
Directory domains (each in a separate forest.) One domain is a test
Win 2003 PDC in native Win 2003 mode, the other is a Win 2008 system
also in native Win 2003 mode.
To summarize some of the progess- things work better if the Samba 3.4
is the PDC,

nss, samba3/ldap PDC, NT4 interdomain trust and performance
Hi everyone,
last week I took a look at a samba3 PDC server with some performance
issues. The samba3 PDC has an ldap backend and has nss_ldap configured
properly. It has also interdomain trust so it has nss_winbind configured
too, so in /etc/nsswitch.conf there is :
passwd: compat ldap winbind
group: compat ldap winbind
This setup has some performance issues on the nss_ldap part of the

Replacing a W2K box with a Samba box
I need to replace a Windows 2000 Server with a Samba box.
The W2K is the only domain controller in the network and it runs Active
Directory.
I know the Samba-3 limitations as an Active Directory Domain Controller,
but I don't need absolutely all the features.
What I would ideally need is:
* Single Sign On
* .adm policy files support (for client security and use restrictions -
clients are

Security = user question
I am running a Sun Solaris system with Samba 3.0.0.
The security level is user
but I want 1 share as guest share so that everybody can read it without
supplying a username or password.
How can I do this ?
Thanks for the help.

No full administrator-permissions on local machines with samba 3 domain login
hi,
does anybody know about the following situatuion and it's solution ? we
configured an samba3 as pdc - sure in the way it was often described. but if
we login on a windowsXP as domainmember (member of the admin group) it seems
like we do not really have full administrator-permissions. we can add useres
and can do some other tasks only an administraor is allowed to do. but some

Why do Interdomain trusts try to use kerberos - updated
On my test Samba PDC, I updated the krb5.conf file to add realm info for the
Windows 2008. This seems to have resolved my "wbinfo" issue. "getent
passwd" is still not working (I did update nsswitch.conf) but I suspect this
is because of an idmap allocation issue. The syntax for idmap allocation
in smb.conf seems to change between 3.0, 3.2, 3.3 and 3.4.
I have also tried

Inter Domain trusts and BDC
I have a Samba-LDAP PDC at an office and 5 BDC's at other offices. At
corporate HQ I have a W2k Server and domain. I have properly
configured an interdomain trust and Users in the Samba domain can get to
sections on the W2k machine regardless of location. However, members in
the W2K domain can only access shares on the PDC. Attempts to access
shares on a BDC cause a user name

checking trust secret failed for interdomain trust
Hi samba members,
I've searched through google, the archives and RTFM but I can't figure this out.
I've got a setup of two different offices with both their own samba PDC, wins, etc. Via OpenVPN i've set up an interdomain trust between the two domains (for now one way, but this will become two ways).
One domain is called PSW with bluemoon as PDC, the other PSWINDWG with redmoon as

interdomain trust between two samba pdc's
I have been trying off and on for some time now to get an interdomain trust
relationship going between two samba pdc machines (DomainA=trusted &
DomainB=trusting). Both pdc's are running on Solaris boxes and NIS is
involved (I doubt there is a NIS complication just because I can use
accounts on DomainA on DomainB's samba, as long as I add them using
smbpasswd manually).
The situation

Windows 2000.)

CHANGING PRIMARY GROUP
Hi to all,
I have a samba acting as a PDC with 'passdb backend=smbpasswd'. My version
of samba is 3.0.14a on linux Debian 2.6.8.
I have defined an interdomain trusted connection with a NT4 domain.
I can see the trusted accounts and groups, and add them to local group with
the 'net rpc group.' command.
My problem is when I want to allow one user from this trusted
