Strangely slow tranfers speeds with samba 3.0.10 and FC3...
Ok, I've found some references to this issue with samba on the net, but not related to the version of samba I'm running (which is 3.0.10, updated version that comes with Fedora Core 3). My problem is this, I've got a Compaq Proliant 2500 (dual Pentium Pro-200MHz with 256MB RAM and the standard Netintelligent 10/100 network controller that come with it)... I've narrowed down that

FC2 to FC3 Upgrade help
Hi All, Due to a hard-disc crash, I have just upgraded from a working Samba setup running in FC2 to a non-functional Samba setup running in FC3. The Windows XP machine has not changed, but won't connect. Samba is fully up2date from the FC3 repositories. smb.conf [global] workgroup = MYGROUP server string = Samba Server hosts deny = ALL hosts allow = 192.168.1.0/24 127.

Linux/AD authentication stops working after ~5 minutes
I'm trying to do something fairly simple: login to a Linux box using a Windows AD-based account. I've followed the various recipes available online for configuring Linux (winbind, PAM, etc.) to this send, and I've got it working ... almost. I'm able to authenticate an AD-based user immediately after bringing up the Linux box, but a short time later (roughly 5 minutes, but it

Extremely slow during browsing some directories
hi, I am quite new on using Samba and sorry maybe ask a silly question here. I set up simple Samba server on Fedora3 using the samba rpm package comes with fedora3( version 3.0.10-1.fc3). I use the SHARE security level to make things easier. Everything goes fine so far, except that for some windows user, some times, on browsing some directories, it takes extremely long time to display the

KDE-Print almost working, directory shares working good.
Hi all, I've been reading quite a few of the posts to this mailing list, and I'm afraid that my question is going to look very noobish, but as I am one, that's to be expected, so apologies in advance for my post getting caught up in more serious samba queries. I have two PCs, one a workstation (biggeek.supermail.dyndns.org, 192.168.1.100), and the other a general server machine

Weird 'net getlocalsid' problem (Samba + LDAP)
I'm setting up a PDC with LDAP (Posix and Samba accounts) backend. Samba version is 3.0.10 (FC3 x86_64 version). I'm following the instructions on the IDEALX site. I've done this before with older versions. It appears some things have changed in LDAP, Samba, and the smbldap-tools, but for the most part the procedure is the same. The problem I'm getting is with the 'net

totally confused, samba flipflop fuctionality
It's working from the linux box and not the xp then it's not Yes I try making corrections and this probably accounts for the confusion and broken samba communication. I just never seem to be able to come up with a working working configuration. Exception: smbclient; I can mount the XP share in a directory on my Linux box or at least the last time I checked. I have to turn off the

net rpc vampire not working
Hi, Can someone help me get "net rpc vampire" in one of its forms working. The objective is to migrate from an NT4 PDC to a SAMBA 3.0 PDC using LDAP as a back end. I am trying to migrate the user and machine accounts across in a lab environment, separate from the main network (I have replicated the PDC to do this). I have samba-3.0.20b built from the samba team source RPM on Fedora

virtual server configuration issues
Greetings, I've used samba for many years now on various platforms and its worked very well. I'm now trying to use 'virtual servers' to combine several smb servers on one machine and have been following the clear and simple instructions here: http://www.oreilly.com/catalog/samba/chapter/book/ch04_07.html (I've also cross-referenced these instructions with various posts to

Winbind + NIS + winbind trusted domains
Hello list, I need to setup a samba file server with user access from a Windows AD domain and a separate Solaris NIS domain. All of our users have an account on the AD domain but only some of our users have a Unix account. I would like Windows users that have a Unix account to have files written as per their Unix uid and users that do not have an account to have a uid assigned from winbind. I

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all! I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC, a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core 3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows XP and a few with Windows NT. Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

The error message we are getting is "the system cannot change your password now because the domain TOPC is not available". USRMGR reports "Could no find domain controller for this domain" Everything is authenticating properly. Any ideas? I'm

Reason for slow MS-DOS MS client writes
The low speed of writes with the MS-DOS, MS newtworking client has to do with the limit of MAXSENDSIZE (from TCPUTILS.INI) By default, the value is 1024, but the maximum value is 2048. If this value is not set to the same as the Samba server's SO_RCVBUF, then performence will suffer GREATLY. We had a Windows system hosting Norton Ghost images, but it took a dive, and our company has
