SMBMOUNT: process freezes on file copy
Thanks Urban. I am now convinced that this problem is being caused by the
reshare of the Novell drive. I have ended up copying the data (around 6Gb,
400,000 files) to the Windows 2000 server from the Novell server. I then
mounted the Windows 2000 share using smbmount. Copying this has been a
dream with no sign of any problems at all.
I think we will have to put this down to the MS Gateway

smbmount, error=-3
I recently added a Linux box to a formerly all-Windows network, and one
of the first things I wanted to get working was file sharing between my
Win98 laptop and the Linux box. I got Linux to see the laptop via
smbmount, and finally found how to get this to happen every time the
Linux machine restarted. But (seemingly every time I turn the laptop
off) the smbmount fails. Attempts to ls the mounted

smbmount in 3beta3 dead?
I'm having some unusual results with smbmount. I've tried mounting
multiple server shares from multiple servers with the same results.
Here's my command line...
/usr/sbin/smbmount //Gilligan/Homedir /mnt/mktg -o
username=jlahners,password=xxxxxxx,debug=6
smbmount never returns however, the mount is established and I can view
the entire directory structure as if the mount succeeded.

using smbmount for NT share
I posted a previous thread about using smbmount, but I am still having some
problems, using samba version 2.0.5a on SuSE 6.2.
I issue the statement:
smbmount //NTServer/share /mnt/test -Iaddress -Uid%pswd
Afterwards, if I go to the mount directory, i.e. 'cd /mnt' and issue the
command 'ls -l' I get an error message 'ls: test: Input/output error'.
After that, the mount

diff. file date/time shown between smbmount and smbclient
I am using samba to connect to a WinNT 4.0 server (NT LAN Manager 4.0) and I am not getting the correct file date/time displayed when I use smbmount (actually "ls" displays the wrong date/time after performing smbmount). If I connect using smbclient all file date/time values are displayed correctly. Here are some examples: (smbclient) Wed Dec 1 15:50:00 1999 = (smbmount) Fri Jan 02

Smbmount (2.2.3a) and windows
Hi All,
We changed out our main web server this morning in favor of linux/apache,
and everything was working well, except that we make smbmounts to the old
web server (it's xxx.xxx.xxx.51 now), the apache web server is xxx.xxx.xxx.2,
and when xxx.xxx.xxx.51 died, all the machines communicating with it (via
smbmount) stopped responding EXCEPT for the apache web server, which was

SMBMount v2.05a
Hi
I have two different distributions running, RedHat 6.0 and Slackware 7.0.
Both machines are running Samba 2.05a.
When I try the smbmount command on the RedHat machine, it has no problem
mounting the smb service.
RedHat 6.0:
works: smbmount //win95machine/c /mnt/c
failed: smbmount "\\win95\c" -c `mount /mnt/c -u 123 -g 456`
Slacware 7.0:

smbmount 2GB file size limit ?
Hi,
I'm running RH9 with kernel 2.4.20 and Samba 2.2.8a.
I can copy files larger than 2GB from Windows to Linux
and vice versa through Samba.
However, when I copy >2GB files from one Linux machine
to another (using smbmount to mount) I get "File size
limit exceeded" when 2GB is reached.
It looks like the problem is with smbmount.
Is there a 2GB file size limit with

FAST BUSY on Back to back ZAP outgoing calls
Hello, I have a TDM400P with 2x2 configuration of FXOs and FXSs. I set
a test extension of '444' to dial out a specific zap trunk and call a
local #. First time I call out to '444' everything works fine. If I
hang up the call, and within 10 seconds dial the same number again, I
get a fast busy. Seems it isn't letting go of the trunk or something,
and I don't have a

[patch] smbmount fixes for samba-2.0.7, testers wanted!
Hello all
This patch tries to remove a few bugs from smbmount. It would be nice to
get some testing+feedback on this from others using smbmount and possibly
get these things fixed for the next release of samba.
It does the following:
* Change lib/debug.c to allow changing your mind on being interactive.
A second call to setup_logging should now replace the effects of a
previous call. (hmm,

Erratic behavior with smbmount
I'm running Linux Fedora Core 2 with Samba 3.0.3-5
installed. I'm experiencing some strange behavior
when I try to mount a FAT32 share on a Win2k
workstation.
After a fresh reboot, when I try smbmount (or
mount.smb) everything seems to work (no error
messages). Then when I try to access the mountpoint -
via Nautilus or by doing "ls" in a terminal - the
system freezes. If I

smbmount and credentials file
I have a small LAN:
SuSE 7.2 with Samba 3.0 and a W2K box.
What I can do:
I can create shares from the W2K box that make files from the Linux box
visible. I can also manually mount (using % smbmount ... ) from the
command line as root. Here is where I run into problems. The only way I
can mount a partition via smbmount is if I use the username=user%passwd
option. If I attempt to setup a .smbpw

Problem: permissions for removing a file in a file system mounte d by smbmount
Hi,
I have got a problem with the semantics of file permissions on a file system
mounted by smbmount on a Linux box (kernel 2.2.14, Samba 2.0.6, and after
looking through the 2.0.7 announcement, it appears that the problem has not
been addressed there).
Consider the following case: I mount a share from an NT server on a Linux
box, which I then use at the Linux box. I create a file on that

smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt
Hi,
I am deploying samba for an embedded system. The requirement is that the
system should be able to mount windows share points. I believe "smbmount,
smbumount and smbmnt" components are needed to do the same. I am not very
clear about smbmnt though!
I find that smbmount, smbumount and smbmnt are all quite huge. Around 300
to 400Kb each.
I understand that Samba is capable of doing

file permissions and smbmount
I'm using Samba 2.0.6 on a Linux server.
When using smbmount or mount to mount a share from an NT server, how do I
set file permissions. An older smbmount allowed a -d and -f switch to set
the file permissions. The newest one does not support these. The man pages
for smbmount and smbmnt mention using syntax that does not work.
I finally have gotten the mount command to work, but now I

smbmount problem after kernel recompile
Hi all,
I am running SuSE 6.2 on a machine with 2 processors, so I just recompiled
the kernel to pick up the second cpu.
I now have problems using smbmount (2.0.5a that came with distrubution) or
using the newer mount syntax (I just installed 2.0.6) to mount a share from
an NT 4.0 server. After issuing the smbmount/mount command, and then going
to the mount point, I get i/o errors on the

"Text file busy" inconsistent problem with newly created files: bug?
I have noticed an inconsistency with the behavior of linux smbfs
mounting a remote win2k server while a file is open for writing:
1) If a linux process opens a file that /doesn't exist/ on the
win2k server, while the file is open, other machines trying
to read the file give the usual 'Text file is busy' (linux) or
'file is in use by another process'

Patch: patches for smbmount opton documentation ( smbmount.8.xml )
Hi,
I use samba on Linux 2.6 and 2G over size file sharing.
It seems smbmount '-o lfs' need to use with large file.
but default man page doesn't say this option.
I want to edit smbmount.8.xml for lfs and unicode option.
I believe using mount.cifs is right way on latest Linux.
But one of the implementation smb_clients tools take this
lazy option.
Is it right way to change of man page

smbmount limitations
Hello,
I am trying to use smbmount to mount a Samba share that is larger than 2
TB. However, the amount of disk space that is displayed from the "df
-k" command for the mounted share is only 2 TB, and when I try to access
the share, my terminal session hangs. Is there a limitation on the size
of the share that can be mounted?
Thanks,
Daryl Ashley
