unix charset = LOCALE
Andrew Bartlett said once that 'unix charset = LOCALE' means to force samba to read 'LANG=' from environment.
>echo $LANG
>en_US
>cat /etc/sysconfig/i18n
>LANG="en_US.UTF-8"
>SUPPORTED="en_US.UTF-8:en_US:en"
>SYSFONT="lat1-16"

Capital Letters - Charset problem
Hello,
I have a strange problem with samba 3.0.1 on suse 8.1, when I mount an
NT shared directory the accented capitals letters are not recognised.
Everything works fine except for files having accented *capitals*.
My smb.conf has:
unix charset = ISO-8859-15
display charset = ISO-8859-15
dos charset = CP850
unicode = No
I tried compiling libiconv and recompiling samba with it, but with no

scandinavian letters or charset problem?
Hi!
This teamware mailclient (teamware.com) that we use at the office has
problems adding files as attachments from our Samba 3.0.2a share. The
attachment file browser sees the files but fails to add them as
attachments (with an error message: "valid.stf - file not found"
regardless of the file name in question). I tracked this thing down to
scandinavian letters (if your mail

Missing charset ISO8859-1.so in 3.0.6?
I recently installed and built 3.0.06 on my Solaris 9 Ultra 5 station. When
I start either smbd or nmbd, the log files indicate a missing shared library
during initialization, but the daemons appear to be running anyway.
Specifically, the log says:
[2004/09/09 09:09:07, 3] lib/module.c:do_smb_load_module(46)
Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/ISO8859-1.so': ld.so.1:

Should smbpasswd change unix password too?
Hello.
My unix password sync is working ok, thus when an user changes his
password with "Ctrl+Alt+Del|Change Password" in Windows.
However, if I run "smbpasswd" manually, I get two messages saying
"password changed", but the unix password is not changed.
:(
Is this behaviour the right one?
Thanks.

Adding users by ignoring unix password file
Hi,
Is it possible to add users/change passwords for users in samba
without it being dependant on anything in the UNIX password file?
For example I want to add a user to my samba password file without
them existing in the UNIX password file.
If anyone has any RTFM info they can kick me in it would be most
appreciated :)
Thanks

Unix to SMB password synchronisation
I have set up a web page describing my Unix to SMB password synchronisiation
which also has the source code to the C front end and expect script used.
http://www.btinternet.com/~p.polkinghorne/samba/u2s/
Note this is a Solaris specific solution - but should be adaptable to other
Unices.
Hope this helps someone ...

'multi-layered' authentication
I need to allow [read] access to a Samba server using both IP filtering &
UserIDs .
For a given list of IP subnets, any user should have access.
Outside these 'trusted' subnets, I need to do User authentication.
I can handle the User authentication OK in several ways.
However, I don't see any way to do the 'short circuit' allow for some IPs,
then use User authentication

[Samba 2.2.6] share permissions override Unix rigths?
Hi All!
I have Samba 2.2.6 installed on Solaris 8 SPARC. Samba is authenticating
users against LDAP (Netscape Directory Server 4.12)
One of my directories has rights as following (using synonyms):
d rwx r-x --- owner : growner VOL5
I have another user USER1 whose primary group membership is GROUP1,
supplementary groupmembership GROWNER.
My Samba config follows:

CIFS Session transfer
Hi All,
I would like to know if this is possible and if possible what is the
complexity.
Consider a CIFS client, SAMBA Server1 and Samba Server2.
Say a session is established between a CIFS client and SAMBA server1. Is it
possible for the SAMBA server1 to transfer/redirect/reestablish the
connection to SAMBA server2 without the CIFS client knowing about this? The
session between the CIFS

upgrade samba-2.2.8 to samba-3.0.2a (umlauts)
Hi,
we run a samba 2.2.8 server and like to migrate to a faster, new server
running samba 3.0.2a.
I thought to copy all files from the old to the new one mounting the new
shares by nfs. For a test I copied some files using scp.
A problem concernes the german umlauts:
on the old server they aren't displayed if I "ls" the files while
browsing the share works fine. If I copy the

We have windows XP and NT workstations. They are configured to support

Also we export samba 2.2.8 shares through a solaris 8 machine.
But these samba shares are NFS mounted file systems that come from a NAS

In smb.conf:
- Character set parameter is not set.
- Codepage is 850
In the NAS file server the parameter is set to unicode.

Problem browsing my unix-client - session setup failed: NT_STATUS _CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO
I installed samba 3.0015.
I have a problem when I try to browse my machine from a windows client. In
effect I am not able to "open" my unix-client.
I checked nmbd and smbd and they are running.
If I try from my unix-clinet: smbclient -L my_user -W my_domain -L my_PDC I
can see shares.

Access to shares for authenticated domain users only
I am running several samba servers (2.2.3a and 2.2.7) in various places as
pdcs. Everything seems to be running smoothly, but I can't find any way of
restricting access to only those uses who have logged on to the domain. Is
this possible? ie at the moment, any user can map a drive to \\server\share,
put in a valid user/password pair and have access to that share without

Samba and non-ascii characters
Hello everyone,
I have a problem with smbmount. After I mount a certain share, I can not
view files with weird charaters in their name. This happends for example
with the copyright char.
After searching with Google I still didn't find an answer. I guess it has
something to do with a 'charset' command, but I can't figure out wich one,
and what character table I should use...
