Instant Rails on XP sp1 setup issue
I recently downloaded and extracted Instant Rails v1.4 on my Win XP sp1
machine. After changing and saving the windows host file and starting
the cookbook app with Mongrel, browsing to www.mycookbook.com does not
work. With Mozilla it displays ''redirecting to cookbook...'' but never
loads. It is finding the index.html in the cookbook/public dir, but the

Problem with smbmount and windows xp
For long time I used to smbmount my windows-xp share from my SuSE-Linux
machine with smbmount from samba 2.2.12.
Now I changed to debian-linux with samba 3.0.13.
The smbmount-cmd: ' smbmount //winxp/share /unix-dir -o
username=user,password=xxx,ro' returns no error.
with 'mount' I see the mounted win-share.
But when I try a 'ls /unixdir' I get a 'Permission

www.mycookbook.com not working - just shows apache page
Curt,
This is really, really cool....
On hiccup for me though. All was well until I went to manage the cookbook
application. The Start SCGI command gave the following output:

start -p 9999 -e production -D

HELP!! - PHP calling R to execute a r-code file (*.r)
Hi,
I have met a tough problem when using PHP to call R to generate some plots.
I tested it okay in my personal computer with WinXP. But when I was trying
to update to my server (Win2003 server), I found it did not work. Below is
the details:

xts/time-series and plot questions...
Hello,
I'm a complete newbie to R. Spent this past weekend reading The Art of R Programming, The R Cookbook, the language spec, Wikis and FAQs. I sort-of have my head around R; the dizzying selection of libraries, packages, etc? Not really. I've probably missed or failed to understand something...
I have very a simple data set. Two years (ish) of temperature data, collected and

ror-generated sql syntax fails at ''where''.
I am working on my first Ruby-on-Rails project after completing
"cookbook" and "todo list" tutorials.
When "SAVE"ing a new record to a table, the "create" method throws SQL
error #42000 for:
SELECT * FROM mailboxes WHERE (key = ''TEST'') LIMIT 1
but if i change syntax to fully-qualified column, the query tool is
happy with:

How can I take/revert snapshot of a VHD image
Hi there,
I''m running several VMs within Xen, and now I''m trying to create/revert
snapshots of my VMs.
Along with Xen and blktap2, another utility, vhd-util is also delivered,
and according to its description, i guess I can use it to create/revert
VM snapshots.
To create a snapshot is actually easy, I just call
|vhd-util snapshot -n aSnapShot.vhd -p theVMtoBackup.vhd

Slow Printing from XP clients with SP2?
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this.
>From an XP machine printing to a SAMBA printer, printing is painfully slow.
Selecting the printer, and even sending the job through windows makes the app
appear non-responsive. The print job is completed fine, but just takes a long time
to print.
XP boxes with SP1 print like a dream. I've managed to replicate this on 4 boxes

How to keep samba4 dc work fine when windows dc offline?
I'm testing a samba4 server join AD (had 1 win2003 dc) as dc. Version:
Samba4 DC: samba 4.1.1 with ubuntu (172.16.3.8)
Win2003 DC: Win2003 SP2 (172.16.3.3)
AD domain name: dotest.com
The samba server had joined to AD as DC. When win2003 dc online, it seems
works fine.
When I test win2003 dc online, simulate the win2003 DC was failue, found
the samba4 DC can't work fine along. The AD

[PATCH 0/4] Provide better fake virtio-* test data for virt-v2v.
Patch 1 moves the v2v/fake-virtio-win and v2v/fake-virt-tools
directories to the recently created test-data/ hierarchy. This is
just refactoring with no functional change at all.
Patches 2-4 then extend the available (fake) virtio-win drivers:
- Patch 2 adds all of the drivers from the virtio-win RPM.
- Patch 3 adds all of the drivers from the virtio-win ISO (which are
different from the

[PATCH 0/3] v2v: windows: Use '*.inf' files to control how Windows drivers are installed.
https://github.com/rwmjones/libguestfs/tree/rewrite-virtio-copy-drivers
Instead of trying to split and parse elements from virtio-win paths,
use the '*.inf' files supplied with the drivers to control how Windows
drivers are installed.
The following emails best explain how this works:

[Q] Why does it take so long for XP to logon?
If I login to our Samba box (RedHat 7.1 + 2.4.20) under Windows 2K
via Start->Run->share name, I get logged in almost immediately. It
averages about 25 seconds under XP. This behavior has been true in
various versions of Samba since I believe XP was available and is
reproducible on every (several) Windows 2K/XP boxes I have tried.
This is a workgroup environment with Samba acting as

mounting an AD share upon login
Hi everyone,
I am having trouble mounting a share on my AD server upon login.
I am using pam_mount. Here is log activity when user 'peter' logs in
(with Ubuntu client) and is authenticated by AD server. There is a
share called 'peter' on the server (netbios name WIN2003) and the mount
point is /home/PRIVATE/peter (see later for pam_mount.conf file):

Allow access to a share to all members of a container?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I have 104,000 users, some of which are in the OU:
ad.network.local\AD\People\IFAS\Hort
Is there an easy way to find all the users in this OU and grant them
access to a share?
Or do I have to list each user individually?
And if so, can I use net user to list the users in an OU?

mapping with username: "user@domain" failed
Hi All,
When trying to map my SAMBA share from WinXP, it prompted me for name
and password but it failed when I used name@domain.com
However, using "domain\name" worked.
Any idea why my SAMBA server didn't accept this name style name@domain
?
Assume: Realm (AD domain): domain.com
Pre-windows2000: domain
Username: name
Samba server: 3.0.7 (soon will switch to latest)

getent passwd does not list trusted users

provided build. I have an ldap backend for everything (unix+samba
accounts, idmapping for domain trusts.) The Samba server is a PDC for a
domain we can call "SAMBA." Each samba account is tied to a unix
account.
I have a one-way domain trust setup with a Windows 2003 domain which we
