Can't get NTLM authentication working with Samba
I've been running Samba for years to provide file shares, and now I'm
trying to set it up as an NTLM authentication server for Squid. From
what I've read, to do this you need to get winbindd up and running. I
think I'm part way there but have hit a brick wall.
I've set my machine us a PDC.
"wbinfo -u" returns a list of users OK (though I notice one is missing

Winbind AIX
Hello,
I'm trying to use Winbind with Samba.
My system : AIX 5.1 level 05
Samba 3.0.2
I think those files are well-configured :
/usr/lib/security/methods.cfg
/etc/security/user
smb.conf
When a user try to connect to the samba server, the error
NT_STATUS_CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO appears !
wbinfo -u send all domain users
wbinfo-g send all domain groups

prerequisites for winbind (Samba-3.0.4-SuSE-9.0)
Hi there,
I'm not able to get winbind to work, although searched google and studied
and tried nearly every howto
and forum entry on the net the last week.... it simply doesn't work and I don't understand
why....
My Samba3-Domain SUPZ (samba & ldap Linux PDC, Windows Clients) works
perfektly
with all ldap users, groups (linux and from windows) and computer accounts
(Win2000 WS).

Can't join a computer to my Samba PDC.
Hello,
I have installed Samba 3.0.22 amd 64 from Debian installed.
Samba is working perfectly well a file server.
But I can't join a computer to it either via a Win2K client or using
the "net rpc join" command.
Winbind,smbd and nmbd are running.
I receive messages like "given identification informations conflict with
existing one"
and probably more interesting :

ntlm_auth question
Hi guys/gals. I'm brand new to this list, been working with Linux for several years, and have occasionally set up samba file servers before in a "hi-i'm-wide-open-so-anyone-can-read/write-to-my-shares" mode for temporary storage in data recovery scenarios. At the moment, I'm working on a project that involves FreeRADIUS authenticating against a Win2k/2k3 AD server using the

ntlm_auth
Hi all,
I don?t have much experience with Samba so I would like to apologize in
advance if I talk about very simple things. I've got a freeradius 1.0.1
server running fine with OpenLDAP on a RedHat 9.0 and now I would like to
authenticate against an Active Directory. I can do it with TLS, but when I
try to do it with PEAP, it doesn works. I read about it and found out that

winbindd + wbinfo -> NT_STATUS_CANT_ACCESS_DOMAIN_INFO
I still can't get winbindd working properly even though I am making some
progress here.
I retrieved the latest CVS version last night and now I can finally use
non-anonymous connections - that works very well. I *did* update both of the
pam modules in /lib and /lib/security
winbindd runs under the account of a regular domain user
"wbinfo -u" shows me all users and "getent

ntlm_auth NT_STATUS_INVALID_HANDLE with windbind
I should use an authenticated proxy with Squid, but I have a problem
with winbind.
I'm working on a PDC, debian squeeze with samba from backport (ver.

Here the problem: I can authenticate users.

admin users = user0 (how force admin permission?)
Hi folks :-)
in a samba share I've:
valid users = user0 user1 user2 user3
admin users = user0
If I write a new file by user0 (admin) this file has root permission:
-rw-r--r-- 1 root user0 131870 2010-08-06 15:35 20100806 name_of_file
can I force to have an user0 permission like this (maintening admin user
option in samba?):
-rw-r--r-- 1 user0 user0 131870 2010-08-06 15:35

ntlm_auth and Server 2008 issues
We are having the same Samba issue as noted here:
http://lists.freeradius.org/pipermail/freeradius-users/2009-November/msg00664.html
Has anybody on this list experienced this " \NETLOGON fnum 0xareturned
critical error. Error was NT_STATUS_PIPE_DISCONNECTED" error? This
wasn't happening until our AD admin upgraded the AD servers to windows
server 2008 R2.
Also, I see this

Problem deleting/renaming files
Hi - We have been using a samba configuration file similar to that
listed below for some years without issue. However when carrying it over
to a new server running Samba 3.4.0 (-3ubuntu5.1), we started
experiencing problems deleting files via Windows Explorer; attempts to
do so are resulting in 'Access is denied'. Similarly, attempting to
change the name of a file or directory is

ntlm_auth: (pipe \PIPE\NETLOGON) has died or was never started (fd == -1)
I'm exeperiencing a strange ntlm_auth problem:
I'm running two domain with a trust; the trusting one,
(EUFEMIA with the PDC Beatrice) uses the WINS facility of
the trusted one (LETTERE, PDC Alice).
Users of EUFEMIA and LETTERE alike have a successful logon to
Beatrice.
LETTERE users do authenticate in Beatrice with ntlm_auth.
EUFEMIA users do not:

Setup of a new PDC with Samba 3.2.0
Hello,
I setting up a new PDC for a new domain using samba 3.2.0
I use LDAP as passwd/idmap backend.
I started from scratch just creating the OU for the
users/groups/machines/idmaps in the ldap directory, + a user used to bind
to ldap.
So from there I started winbind and ran net sam provision, which worked
great.
Now I plan this domain will have a one way trust with one other domain,
and as I

Samba 3 handles Linux permissions differently then Samba 2 ?
Hi,
we have a problem with permissions migrating from a custom 2.4 kernel Linux
distro with Samba 2.2.5 to OpenSuSE 10.3 (with samba 3.0.26).
We used to have directories like this (relative to the Samba share):
/root/dir0/dir1/dir2/dir3/userdir1-1/userdir1-2
'root' and all it's parent directories have '0755' Linux permission.
dir0-dir3 all have '0711' permissions
