Transparent authentication issues
I am having issues getting my Windows clients (all WinXP) in a 2003 AD domain to transparently authenticate to my Samba (version 3.0.10-1.4E.2) server. I had this previously working before I changed the name of the server. After changing the name of the server in smb.conf, I ran the same init commands such as kinit, net ads join, and so on. I had also deleted the previous computer object in AD,

security = domain and Mac OS X
I've set up Samba on Mac OS X to do pass through authentication to the nt domain in AD several times now. No big deal, it usually just works. Now, however, it doesn't appear to be working. Note the relevant part of the transaction below (loglevel 4). Steps to replicate: a) Add pre-Win2K account with AD Users and computers b) sudo smbpasswd -j EXAMPLE -r WINSERVER -U

Remove default homeshare
Hi I'm running a samba-server as fileserver on a Windows 2003 PDC. The users are create on the WinServer, and the homefolders are defined in the AD and stored on the sambaserver //server/homes/%user%. But samba still creates the default share with the same name as the user. How di I disable that. I have # everything that's named something like home and etc.. /Lars

The specified network name is no longer available 3.0.25 RHEL4
I have a reproducible intermittent error large site - "The specified network name is no longer available". This happens when copying large files. Below is part of log level 10 output & strace. Sorry for the long posting. I will probably need to put the loglevel 10 attached to a bugzilla - but thought I would try the lists initially. RHEL4 samba-3.0.25b-1.el4_6.4

Replication errors with LDAP and problems with NT machines
Hi all! I work as a computer technician for a small school and have recently upgraded our network to use samba servers. Our main computers are a PDC, a BDC, a file server and a backup server, all using Red Hat Fedora Core 3 as a base. The clients on our network consist of machines with Windows XP and a few with Windows NT. Everything seems to work just fine except for some minor but annoying

configuring samba-LDAP-PDC using IDEALX tools
I am using smbldap-tool from IDEALX on my Fedora Core 1 samba 3.0.5 PDC. I have been following their guide step by step and I am getting the following error message as I try to get SID. I have looked in google group, but I couldn't exactly find anybody who had the same problem as I do. Please help me if you can! [root@pdc smbldap-tools]# net getlocalsid [2004/06/17 10:53:57, 0]

pam_ldap problem on an LDAP+SMB configuration
Hi there. This is my first post to this list, I hope I can help you in the future. By now, I'm the one who needs help :) I've been trying to configure a Fedora Core 4 box to use samba + LDAP. I followed instructions of http://www.idealx.org/prj/samba/smbldap-howto.en.html but it seems like I'm having problems on the pam_ldap layer: when I go to step 4.5

samba + mit krb5 + ldap hypothetical
Hi all, I've read through much of the list archives and other various docs and am now more confused than ever regarding how samba interacts with external services. All of the docs seem to assume that a Windows AD server is part of the picture when ldap/krb5 are involved. What I'm trying to do is set up a samba fileserver that Windows clients can connect to via something like: "net

WIN 98 & XPP w/Samba+LDAP PDC...HELP!
Hey, I just got done setting up a Samba+LDAP PDC using the idealx tools on my fedora core 1 machine. I have created a user named 'testuser1' :uid=1000(testuser1) gid=513(Domain Users) groups=513(Domain Users). As 'testuser1' logs on WIN98 client, it is authenticating 'testuser1' as a 'nobody':(uid=99, gid=99) (pid 19880) As I try to join the domain from XP pro

Log on problems since update from 2.2.12 to 3.0.10
Hi, I want to move from Samba 2.2.12 to 3.0.10. I downloade the 3.0.10 sources and compiled them (Solaris 8). Everything went fine. After the install, I tested the new 3.0.10 Samba with the old smb.conf from 2.2.12 (the docs say this should work). I could not log in anymore. I switched back to 2.2.12 and tried the 3.0.10 install on a Suse Linux 8.0 - with the same results. I used most parts from

PDC Problems(winbind, joining domain, net groupmap, etc), FreeBSD 5.3, LDAP
Goal: Have Samba operate as a PDC using LDAP as its passwd backend. Be able to have W2K servers as member servers. Note: I have not posted any .conf files, because I not sure what files would be relavent in seeing. Since somethings are working and somethings are not. Debian AD member server setup with winbind idmap_rid - us ers prompted for password - solved

I found that when the user accessed other shares everything was fine. So this morning I finally realized that it had to be my home shares stanza. mount cifs with sec=krb5
Hi, I am trying to mount fileserver (samba, 10.20.30.16) shares on a linux domain member server, where I logged on via ssh using AD my credentials. I am unable to get past the "mount error(126): Required key not available" error message. I have read and googled a lot, and could use some help. LDAP and memberUid in Domain Users
Hi. I use Slackware 10 with OpenLDAP 2.2.18, Samba 3.0.10 as PDC, smbldap-tools 0.8.5-3. from idealx.org. Using usrmgr.exe I have small problem with memberrUid field. When I add new user to a domain, the memberUid field with the name of this users is added to Domain Users. But when I delete this user, the memberUid field with his name isn't removed from Domain Users. I think that is a

Samba + ldap, acounts expiring? but pdbedit says otherwise
Apologies if this is a RTFM issue... My first question is: anyone know of code that can assist in going through samba logfiles (looking for errors, etc.)? I have what appears to be a password expiration problem. User X has been able to mount a shared drive off the samba box using his login/password. Suddenly it doesn't appear to work: he can run "net use Z: \\server\share" from

Problems Migrating password and group info to ldap
Hi Samba list, I am migrating a v3.0.9 (Suse 9.2) smbpasswd backend samba domain over to a v3.0.9 (suse 9.2) ldapsam backend and I have been incurring some problems I have not been able to resolve. Intial setup: 1. samba (working) (at least any new account created can login domain and SID properly registered in LDAP) 2. ldap (working) (server accepting logins via ldap accounts) 3. smbldap

samba ldap bind problems.
I have a solaris 9 box that I am configuring to be a PDC using the latest version of samba authenticating off of an Openldap db. This machine uses the same ldap server to authenticate the unix users but after following documentation for setting up samba/ldap PDC. Using smbldap-populate populated the database with no problems but when I try and run smblclient -L master I get the following
