Samba + LDAP NSS resolving
I'm using the howto from idealx and the samba-guide to configure a
samba server with LDAP backend.
The config works fine until I get to the step:
getent passwd | grep root
It doesn't query any of the LDAP entries that were added with
smbldap-populate or smbldap-useradd - it only returns local entries.
I've checked the nsswitch.conf, ldap.conf, smbldap.conf, log files.
I can query

net rpc vampire not working
Hi,
Can someone help me get "net rpc vampire" in one of its forms working.
The objective is to migrate from an NT4 PDC to a SAMBA 3.0 PDC using
LDAP as a back end. I am trying to migrate the user and machine accounts
across in a lab environment, separate from the main network (I have
replicated the PDC to do this).
I have samba-3.0.20b built from the samba team source RPM on Fedora

Joining Domain on Solaris, Get_Pwnam_internals didn't find user
Hi
I am running samba 3.0.22 on Solaris 10 x86, using a Sun Directory
Server as ldapsam backend. The samba schema used is the recent version
from .22, and I am using the IDEALX smbldap-tools 0.9.2.
I split users, computers and groups into 3 different OUs and configured
samba, smbldap-tools and Solaris ldapclient respectively.

SAMBA + OPENLDAP - Getent - Please help :)
I have setup a SAMBA + OPENLDAP server following Samba-3 By Example, but I have run into several problems. All the tests described in the Chapter 6 such as pdbedit -Lv, slapcat, and ldapsearch -x -b give the desired results. But, getent can't read passwd or group information from ldap backend. I have done my best to solve the problem, but it just doesn't work. I have compiled the nss_ldap

Goal: Have Samba operate as a PDC using LDAP as its passwd backend.
Be able to have W2K servers as member servers.
Note: I have not posted any .conf files, because I not sure what files
would be relavent in seeing. Since somethings are working and
somethings are not.

YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
HOT DOGGIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think I fixed it. The problem - Squid worked at my test site - it did
not popup a login window, but instead used Ssamba's ntlm helper program
to get credentials from IE. But at my customer site it did (improperly)
popup a login window. The squid.conf files were almost identical - even

problem with winbind and Sun PCNetlink
Sun PCNetlink is a NT4.0 PDC emulator.
I'm running samba-3.0.13, joined to an ADS server that has a trust with a
PCNetlink domain. My samba can authenticate fine against ADS accounts, but
refuses to authenticate against the PCNetlink domain. I can do
getent passwd "ADSDOM\user"
and get an ADS user printed out, but if I use
getent passwd "NT4DOM\user"

WINS resolution not working on WINS Server
Hi Samba Users,
I'm using a typical Samba/LDAP Solution. My PDC is running samba 3.0.14a
on RHEL4. This is also my acting WINS server.
WINS resolution appears to be working fine for all other PC's on the
network. It works for my BDC, and Domain member servers and the various
windows clients on the network. However WINS does not appear to work on
the PDC itself.
On the pdc i have the

smbldap-tools by IDEALX. I have checked the windows registry fix, but
still no luck. When I try to join the domain as root, I get the error:

samba-ldap
Well, I am still having problems with my samba server. For some reason,
I cannot add all of the users in. I am running a batch useradd program.
I can get about 450 or so added in, then it gives me an error that the
user does not exist when I go to add the last 60 or so.
My batch program actually reads in the users name and then does
something like:
/opt/IDEALX/sbin/smbldap-useradd -a -u

A little help with nss_ldap - User xxx in passdb, but getpwnam() fails!
I keep getting the following errors when I try to log on to my domain or
access a share (some how I have no clue I was able to get one computer
to access the samba domain). It is a standalone PDC, ldap on the same
computer.
This problem has been killing me for about a week, any help would be
greatly appreciated

Samba Shares Still Not Quite
I've still not quite got things right. I'm running FC3 with Samba v

Samba-3 by Example. I have lserver1 as my Linux box and jupiter (user

his share (path /archive/ehines (/archive/%U in smb.conf)), but annlee
does not to her share
