Traffic Shaping with Shorewall
Does anyone here implement traffic shaping with shorewall? I need to shape BitTorrent traffic on my network so that upload/downloads do not overwhelm normal function or, even more importantly, my imminent conversion to VOIP for all telephone service. I followed the shorewall documentation guide but am not sure if what I have done is the Right Way Of Doing Things. Nor am I satsified with the

Another R syntax question
The file src/library/base/R/print.R contains this line: x0 <- xm[okP]==0 != (as.numeric(Cf[okP])==0) I didn't know R allowed that, and I wonder if it is deliberate? In mathematics, you would expect x = y not= z to mean (x = y) and (y not= z).; In R, it is parsed as (x == y) != z. While I have to admit that the spacing around == and != in

faster algorithm for Kendall's tau
Hi, I need to calculate Kendall's tau for large data vectors (length > 100'000). Is somebody aware of a faster algorithm or package function than "cor(, method="kendall")"? There are ties in the data to be considered (Kendall's tau-b). Any suggestions? Regards Ferdinand

stale files
Hello - I have samba running on a linux (red hat) machine, with several shares defined in smb.conf for my Windows machines to use. I have an application on the linux box that I run from the Windows machines by way of a terminal emulation program called SmarTerm. I've written a little program that runs on the host (linux); it opens a file on the host and reads 5 records. I store the

Authenticates on lan but not through VPN
Hi We have a samba server which has been working fine for four years, SAMBA is configured as an Active directory domain member (SECURITY=ADS in the conf file), using Kerberos tickets to allow it to authenticate users. SAMBA is not however performing in pure native ADS mode as it is using WINBIND TRUSTED DOMAINS ONLY=YES Local and VPN connected users have worked fine. About a week ago we added

Preforming an action/trigger after a user successfully authenticates
Hi - I have searched the docs for v1.0 RC7, but cannot find what I'm looking for. What I'm ultimately wanting to do is have Dovecot preform some action, or a trigger, when the user is successfully authenticated. Even more specifically, I'd like to run another SQL query to record a date/time for last authenticated login. Short from running a script during logrotate, or constantly

WIN2K authenticates against 2.0.6!!!
Since I didn't receive any replies to my questions or observations, we were forced to try new things... We upgraded NT4SP5 (which does everything we want it to do) to Windows 2000 Pro and magically it now authenticates against Samba 2.0.6 on AIX 4.3.2. We have some problems however...the logon script does not run and the "LogonServer" environment variable is no longer set to the

2.2 to 3.0.x PDC upgrade: an XP box no longer authenticates domain users with the Samba PDC
Hi! I've recently been upgrading a Samba 2.2 installation to 3.0 (on a SuSE 9.3 machine, specific version is 3.0.13-1.1-SuSE). Everything went more or less okay, but I'm stumped on the following problem... here's the general setup: * Samba acting as a PDC (named "servidor"). Was upgraded from 2.2 to 3.0. I copied the smb.conf file, and the

Authenticates right on AD server, but still no access...
I have a linux (redhat 8.0) samba server that is a part of a Windows ADS. I have gotten user authentication to work fine (I THINK), but still I have some problems with access to share. The strange thing is that I can access the share from smbclient (on the linux server: #smbclient -d4 //Bones/share -U foo where user foo has no user on the linux box itself, so the authentication is done

Windows sometimes authenticates with wrong user
Sorry in advance for the long post. But this is a bit of a detective story. We are having an authentication issue with a small number of Windows XP (SP2) machines. The Windows machines are set up to have only a single user -- let's say the user is called "Writer". There is no password set up for this user called "Writer". User1 logs on to the machine and connects

samba authenticates only against the primary group of a user?
Hello everyone! I seem to be have a bit of a problem setting up a few network folders for a my office on a Qnap storage device running Samba -v3.5.2. So I ask: when the 'write list' of a share contains ONLY groups, and a user tries to log on to that share, then samba authenticates against the primary group only of that user only?? Here is the example that fails: -the user is

Win2k DC no longer authenticates for Samba shares
I have a win2k domain ... 2 of the client machines are Red Hat (7.3 and 8.0). I set everything up to use the DC to authenticate ID/PW. Everything worked perfectly until a week or so ago ... Samba would automatically create a home folder and the whole nine yards. Now I can see the shares on the Samba machines, but I can't access them ... just prompts for the ID/PW over and over. I can mount

FreeNX authenticates but no desktop on centos 5 ??

I also have a vnc

How to spec code with multiple (interacting) paths
Hi Code with a large number of different paths is probably the biggest problem I have right now. I''ve made a sample class that illustrates the simplest case of one parameter that takes two values: class DataStorer def initialize(logger, emailer, db_updater, do_update_db_step) @logger = logger; @emailer = emailer; @db_updater = db_updater
