problems with win98/smbd/automount and DNS lookups
Does anyone know what is going on with the following:-
A windows 98 machine maps several directories from a samba (2.0.0) server on a
Solaris 2.6 machine.
Twice now the win98 machine has locked up on opening the "my computer" icon,
simultaneously several smbd processes have appeared on the solaris machine
(initiated by that win 98 machine).
log.smbd reports a single error:-

win98 and domain logins, Can't browse network
Hello,
I've just replaced an NT4 server with a NetBSD box running
Samba 3.0.7.
There's 2 win98 boxes on the network, which were logging into
the NT server, so I set up samba as :
[global]
workgroup = BENFAB2
log level = 1
browsable = yes
server string = Samba %v (%h)
security = user
hosts allow = 10.0.0. 127.
load printers = yes

File browser doesn't remember last directory over Dfs
Hi,
I have encountered some strange behaviour after upgrading to
3.0.12 on FreeBSD 4.10 file servers.
Normally when users on windows apps use the file browser to select
a file it remembers the selected directory between invocations, so
that, for example, they can easily read in multiple files from
the same directory, or if they click on Save As... it takes
them to the directory where they

Solaris 8 smb problem
I'm not sure if this is a samba/solaris problem or a Win98 problem and I'll tell you why. I have a Solaris 8 server runing samba 2.2.2, a linux/samba 2.0.7 box and a couple Win 98 boxes. When I did a complete restore of my Win98 box from tape, I could no longer access the Solaris 8 server via network neighbourhood. I can see the Solaris/samba box there with the other Win98 and linux box

"logon path" and "logon home" settings return different values in 3.0.13?
When exactly did the samba meaning/returns for "logon path" and "logon
home" change? (at which version?)
We used to have a system that appeared to be working well and it was as
follows
logon script = logon.bat
logon path = \\%L\profiles\%U
logon drive = h:
logon home = \\%L\%U\.profile
domain logons = Yes
and the [profiles] share had the following

That is what we did not do, thanks a ton Gary! This will certainly save us a

(PR#7277) Re: strange windows behaviour after changing
I can reproduce this in MDI. Another clue is that as the pager for
?merge is opened, the font in the console changes.
The console is still working: commands you type in it are accepted.
So the issue appears to be that the font in use has been changed
incorrectly (and it seems that the C code thinks it has been changed in
the preferences dialog).

Network lockups with win98 and samba 3
Hi all,
This is a new install on a network comprised of win98 and xp machines. I'm a
relative newbie to samba and getting some errors and problems. I would much
appreciate some advice on my setup.
The setup is samba-3.0.23,1 running on FreeBSD 6.1-STABLE as a windows
server replacement and with clients mostly running dos POS software on win98
machines and other dos and windows software on

smbclient - recently broken?
Hello all,
forgive me if this is old news but it seems to me that
smbclient is prone to getting into an infinite loop
when mget'ting a stack of files.
I have tested (compiled from source with defaults)
samba versions 3.0.10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 14a
Versions prior to 3.0.13 are fine, in my environment, versions 3.0.13
and later are causing the problem.
The basic data on my system is
-a P4 3.2

texi2pdf texinputs arguments
Dear All
I am trying to specify the output directory and the directory for the
log files (the same) for texi2dvi.
The default for my windows computer is C:\Users\...\Documents which I
do not want.
The help guide:

and bibtex input search paths.
is a little cryptic for me this morning
I have tried

Can't login samba domain from xp/2k
Hello everybody.
I am having troubles to log on a samba domain from winxp and win
2000 workstations.
I patched the registry with the requiresignorseal=0, changed the local
and group policies (following various comments found on the web), and
added the machine account for samba (obviously, /etc/passwd too). I
tried with samba 3.0.7, 3.0.10 and 3.0.13, Winxp with and without sp2,
and win200

setting file permissions
I have a very upset client and I can not find an answer. How do I set
the read-only flag using the Windows Explorer? I right-click, select
properties, select the read-only check box, click apply and the check
mark goes away. No errors it just does not work. I browsed the log files
on the server and did not find anything there either.

XP Pro and windows 98 clients on single samba 2.2 domain
hi,
been running samba 2.2.3 (debian stable) and using it with windows 98
clients no problem. domain logins, logon.bat and config.pol stuff all
working.
the customer now wants to add XP Pro PC's to the domain.
now, after following the instructions in 'Using Samba' I have set up an
XP PC to log on to a test server. once the PC has been added to the
domain the users can log in no
