Error: STATUS_OBJECT_NAME_NOT_FOUND
[I didn't see any replies to my 12/27 post... so reposting it]
One day samba was working fine, the next it wasn't. I didn't change
anything on either the Fedora Core 6 machine (relay) nor the XP Pro
machine (oob2).
I'm running Samba 3.0.23c on a fully patched FC6 x86 box.
I followed all the steps in "Procedure 38.1. Diagnosing Your Samba
Server", and until I got to

Joining XPPro failed
I've installed Samba [samba-3.0.10-1.fc2.i386] with ldap backend and using
smbldap-tools.
Following the instructions of The Linux Samba-OpenLDAP Howto (Revision
1_10 ) and Smbldap-tools User Manual (Release 0_8_7 ) from IDEALX.
When I am joining XPPro SP2, I got the Access Denied message.
I was doing it as Administrator of the domain that has uid=0.
Should I do this as root, so I have to

from XPPro to Linux what distribution to use for R ?
Dear R users
I m planning to move to Linux to use R (currently under Win XPPro on a 32bit PC with 4 Go RAM), I have 2 questions:
- is there a recommended "version/distribution" of Linux to run?R and Bioconductor packages: Fedora ? Ubuntu ? Suse ? Debian ?
- Regarding Fedora, I see that now it is version 8 available on the web, but on R website I can only see R Fedora 7 version (no F8);

R appearance under linux
Dear R users,
I have just moved to R2.6.1 under Opensuse linux 10.3. I used to work with R under XPpro.
Is it "normal" to have a visual aspect of R under linux different ? I mean without a window with menus etc...
What I do is just open a console window and type R then I just obtain a:?? >?? waiting for my input.
No menu I can click to open for instance to go to the different

Rgui crash under Windows
Dear all,
I found the following on R 2.3.1. for Windows XPpro SP2, tested on 2 PCs
AMD 64 3700+, Ati 9700
AMD Athlon 2400+, Matrox G550
Do the following:
x <- as.matrix(0);
fix(x)
pasting a big chunk of data, for instance the one below, into a cell
of the editor will crash the RGui.

Text to Speech on CentOS4
I am setting up a laptop (Sony VAIO PCG-4?) for my learning disabled
son (age 11). I have previously used MicroSoft 2Kpro and XPpro /
Office 2K platforms for text-to-speech applications as that is what
most commercial LD Assist software is written for. However, with MS
now requiring that one inventories ones entire computer software
configuration with them before getting updates to their

Removed edge rails but cannot find installed rails
I removed edge-rails from a project, git rm, committed and pushed the
revised project to the shared repository, and then git pulled it onto my

Both the original host and my laptop have Rails-2.2.0RC1 installed. The

login/first access of a share from a WinXPpro client to a samba 3.0.4 PDC

Request for hplip upgrade
My wife purchased an HP Deskjet F340 all-in-one printer last year.
CentOS 5 includes hplip-1.6.7. I need at least hplip-2.7.10 which I have
had to install via tarball. Is there any plans to update this package
soon?
Thanks

Network Scanner and CentOS 5.5
I have an HP Photosmart 3210 All-in-One color printer. Printing works
great, but I cannot get xsane to locate it on the local subnet.
I've been to the sane site and looked at the backends. The HP 3210 is
supported by hpio and there is a note that hpio is no longer needed
because the functionality has been rolled int hplip. yum shows hplip is
installed:

Trouble setting up HP Officejet Pro 8600 printer on CentOS 7 + KDE
Hi,
I just installed a CentOS 7 + KDE desktop in my office's network. So
far, I'm quite happy with the results, though I have some trouble
getting the printer to work. All the other machines in my office
(server, desktops, workstation) are running Slackware64 14.1 or 14.2,
and they can all use the printer perfectly.
I installed hplip-gui and ran it. The printer is a network printer, it

HP OfficeJet Printing
There has been a bit of grumbling recently about HP printer capability
in one of our smallest prototyping Labs.? We have a single GigE switch
connecting a Windows 7 machine and a Dell/CentOS-6 machine.? The CentOS
machine also has connectivity via another network.? Currently, only the
Windows 7 machine has been setup for printing on our HP OfficeJet 8615.
Our Samba effort on the CentOS system has

Duplicate name error when joining XP to Samba domain
Hi,
I'm having problems trying to join my XPpro boxes to a Samba (2.2.7a)
domain. I was able to get 1 XP box to join (the very first one) but the
rest complain about a duplicate name on the network just after I
enter the root/pw when joining the domain. None of the smb user names are
in common with the machine names.
The NT4 workstations have no problem joining the samba domain. All
