Samba printing via CUPS fails
Hi Having switched my Samba server from a Solaris box to a RHEL3 Linux box I cannot get printing to work. Linux box is using CUPS to reference various network available printers. Printer drivers have been made available from the Samba server itself under print$. The Samba version is 3.0.9-1.3E.13.2 (the default with RHEL3) and CUPS is 1.1.17-13.3.43 (again the RHEL3 default) [print$]

unix groups and samba, printing
My samba environment is very simple, stable and useful. I'm still running samba 2.0.x as a workgroup and having been handling heirarchal group access for years via symlinks from $HOME and Unix group perms. This machine has always been just a file server. I've been adding scsi drives as space requirements have grown. Now I have good need (due to the addition of a Win2K terminal server)

Raw Printing, was cupsaddsmb and .inf files
Howdy, I've just successfully configured a win2k system to print on a raw queue, but apparenty not through samba. I'm courious as to why that didn't work, and would like to help update the documentation to cover this in more detail, if only I understood it better. I started by following the directions here under "Raw Print Serving Vendor Drivers on Windows Clients":

Cups printing on Samba 3.0.1 from Win2000 SP4
I have a samba based domain controller with a CUPS printer working fine. Samba printing fails for Windows clients, was working, now fails...
Hi all The printing via Samba+Cups has stopped working. I'm using Mandrake 10.0 Official as a Samba server for file sharing and printing on a Windows network. Printing from a WindowsXP client to the Samba server now fails and I don't know why it has suddenly stopped, it used to work. File sharing still works okay. There are on no errors logged on the Linux Samba box, the Windows

Problems printing to remote windows shared printer with 3.0.20
Have just upgraded from 3.0.13 to 3.0.20 on our Solaris domain controller. Machine is also print server running CUPS-1.1.23. We have a RICOH network printer that we print to via Samba (the printer seems to have a builtin Windows PC). smbspool is linked to /usr/lib/cups/backend/smb and the appropriate DeviceURI is in /etc/cups/printers.conf. This works fine with 3.0.13, but with 3.0.20 I get this

Samba and printing=cups; printers disappear after a while
Hello there, We're using a reasonably large network of linux boxes, about 6 of them offering printing services through CUPS. This has worked remarkably stably for the last months, but we've got one lasting problem with Samba that someone may have a hint to offer. We use an smbd on one of the linux boxes that offers the shared CUPS printers to the windows clients on the network. Now

CUPS Printing to PostScript Printer
I'm having trouble printing to a HP LaserJet 6MP Postscript printer. I'm using CUPS and normal UNIX printing works fine. I've tried to configure SAMBA for point and click printing. That all seemed to go okay except that what is printed is: ===================================================== -12345X@PJL JOB @PJL SET RESOLUTION = 600 @PJL SET ECONOMODE = OFF @PJL ENTER LANGUAGE =

CUPS error with 3.0.11
I recently upgraded from Samba 3.0.2a to Samba 3.0.11. I didn't change anything in my smb.conf file. But Now, when a user logs on to my Linux server and access a Samba share, in the log file for that machine there is always a message repeated twice: [2005/03/16 05:40:23, 0] printing/print_cups.c:cups_cache_reload(85) Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost - Connection refused As

Samba printing to a PC client from Solaris
My apologies to any of you who waded through this posting on Usenet. I have tried to avoid cross-posting to the point of idiocy. :-) I am running SAS 6.12 on a Sun server under the current version of Solaris and Samba 1.9.18p10. I would like to set up printing such that I can use Samba to pass print jobs from SAS to a user's local (PC) printer. From my newsgroup searches, the basic setup

CUPS errors when not using CUPS - Breaks printing
Hi All, We appear to have a CUPS problem that is breaking our (LPRng) based printing. We now have loads of errors of the form:_ [2007/03/08 12:21:36, 0, pid=23877] printing/print_cups.c:cups_cache_reload(85) Unable to connect to CUPS server localhost - Connection refused filling up the log.smbd file We using printing=lprng in smb.conf, and there isn't (nor has there ever been) any

Samba 3.0.11 won't compile on Solaris 8
Samba 3.0.11 won't compile on my Solaris 8 machine. It keeps getting compile errors in clitar, although I am using exactly the same configuration options as in Samba 3.0.10. Here is the basic configuration from config.log $ ./configure --with-ldap --with-ads --with-acl-support --with-pam --with-krb5=/usr/local --enable-shared --without-gnu-ld --with-mysql-prefix=/usr/local/mysql

I tried setting: load printers = yes printing = cups printcap name = cups etc in the smb.conf, but after a while discovered in log.smbd that: [2002/05/14 17:24:22, 0] printing/pcap.c:pcap_printer_fn(373) Unable to open printcap file cups for read! Printing, cups, w2k, Runtime error
Hi! I've been trying to find a solution to a printer problem. All I found is a message posted to this list about a year ago, which describes about the same problem (the message is in the end of this mail). So, each time I try to print from windows 2000 or XP I get this error message: Microsoft Visuall C++ Runtime Llibrary Program: C:...Winword.exe Abnormal program termination I have three

Win7 Printing Issue
I have a Fedora 17 Linux box and a HP Laser Jet Professional P1102 attached via USB cable. I can send print job to this printer from the Linux box and it works fine. I use CUPS system for printing. I have another computer laptop that has Windows 7 as the operating system and I like to share files and printer that is attached to this Linux box. Therefore, I decided to install Samba version

Debug Samba/CUPS printing
Hi all, I am currently inspecting a problem with Windows7 / Samba / CUPS printing. On one printer of our company the printjobs are getting heavily delayed. The jobs are started from Windows 7 Workstations. Tcpdump seems to show, that the jobs are handed through from Windows 7 Client -> Samba server -> CUPS server -> printer and no packets seem to bypass those stages. (e.g. no direct

Samba 3.2.0 using CUPS -- Print Spooler not clearing out printed jobs
I'm running Samba 3.2.0-17.fc9 as a PDC, serving a printer using CUPS. When I look at the state of the printer under Windows XP I see that jobs which have completed are still listed. When I look in the printing/<printer>.tdb, there are all the jobs. There is nothing left in /var/spool/samba. There are only the completed control files in /var/spool/cups. It appears either that Samba
