Integrating a samba server in a samba controlled domain
Hi ! I have followed the Samba-Howto, but I still have some problems. Our network is composed of Win2K stations and two samba servers (2.2.5) running under SuSE Linux 8.1. HIROSHIMAN is configured as PDC (domaine CHERYLNET) and everything is running fine, from login to share and printer access. VLOUCHI is a second file server and its workgroup (thus domain) is also CHERYLNET ; security is

Srvtools causes smbldap_open: cannot access LDAP when not root
I am using Samba 3.0.10-1 on Fedora Core 3. Most everything seems to be working as I expect it to except when I try to use the srvtools package to administrate the users and groups in the domain. I want to check and see whether maybe I am just misunderstanding usage as opposed to their being a configuration problem. If I log into my workstation as Administrator, either the local account or into

Pam mkhomedir - Permissions
I would like to set special permissions (ACL) when pam autocreates my home dirs in samba. I think i should use a script for that. My question is: how can I make pam run a bash script after it creates the homedir? Thanks Cristian

Samba and Windows ACL Issue
Hi all got a bit of and odd problem with ACL. Ive read up on a few bits in the samba howto and read some threads on here about it. Im not sure if this is a bug, something ive not done, doing wrong etc so anyone that could shed some light on it that would be great. Basically the windows box handles all user account processing and during creating a script for all this it will attempt to change the

Samba/OpenLDAP reliability issue: backend experience needed
Hi this is more of an OpenLDAP issue, but since it is mostly used with Samba, some experience would be helpful. We have a SLES9 PDC, running samba-3.0.14a, openldap 2.2.6 Sometimes, the OpenLDAP gets corrupted, no ideas why. It's a bad thing. We have 100+ computers, 300+ users, which shall get 350 computers and 800 users. What would you suggest in order to be reliable ? Reliability is

OT Windows policy question
List, Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself, were also a pre. Now for something completely different: High school in Amsterdam Netherlands: - RHAS3 - Samba 3.0.11 RPC, not ADS (no way we're upgrading while the bug reports keep

Samba/LDAP documentation
List, documenters; I'd like to exchange notes about the official Samba 3 LDAP doco. I'd like to do this off list, since doing it on list would simply confuse and confound users wit perfectly working systems. Background: Me, Samba relative newbie, though I can get *everything* Samba-orientated to work simply by using umpteen years Unix experience. Many years as Openldap admin. With

SIGUP? Losing Share
Hello, I'm new to the list and pretty much a newbie to linux and samba. I'm quick learner though. I have been losing my samba share upon ocasion recently, below is a portion of the syslog from the time period that I think is when the share goes down. A reboot of the server or a restart of the smbd fixes the problem (....until it happens again) I don't know what SIGUP is or why

Sarbanes-Oxley headaches
Hi there, With the new scrutinization by auditors on account policies and auditing, how can Samba be SOX compliant? Using 3.0.14a-sernet on Suse 9.1 - ldapsam Specifically, a couple of things seem to be lacking: 1) Logon/Logoff times are not being recorded The last logon time recorded in my ldap entries are pre-nt4 migration. 2) Do the Audit Policy values in user manager have any effect? Compile on RHAS/RHEL3?
List, both on RHAS3 update3, update 4, Samba source code 3.0.9 thru 11 gives SIGSEGVs on make check. Installing the buggers and trying to run them gives the same. *THOUGH*. The Red Hat beta 3.0.9 srpm at fr2.rpmfind.net comples and runs "like a little sun" ("net als een zonnetje", in Dutch). Anyone compiled Samba 3.0.11 on Red Hat RHAS3/RHEL3? Not "how", just

Attachment. who can I best report this to for forensis?
Johan B, please let it through+ The headers are needed. I live in the Netherlands, where the police contacts for this sort of thing are grey and unknown to me. The Metropolitan Police (London only) in England is 100% on the ball, but they're under resourced and I don't live in their "manor" (London slang for area). I'd like to push it out to as powerful an organization

LDAP mailing list for ldapsam people
People, I came to Samba 3 or 4 weeks ago and now have a successful ldapsam 3.0.11 PDC installation for 1150+ users (around 80 Win 2000 and XP workstations) running together with a DHCP server as an "afterthought" service on a RHAS3 NAS server. I adopted/adapted my already existent Openldap (2.2.17) DSE at that site) and wrote to this list about my experiences. For example I

Can anyone suggest any apps/scripts for bulk generating passwords from real names (e.g. jsmith from John Smith) that would check for duplicated in an existing smbpasswd or passwd file and append a number to the username (e.g. jsmith1, jsmith2). What made me write this acclaim is the number of postings I've seen about Samba's instability - i.e. run-away processes, profiles going wrong, ACL problems and more. My (high school) site with around 80 w2k workstations, of which

smbclient - recently broken?
Hello all, forgive me if this is old news but it seems to me that smbclient is prone to getting into an infinite loop when mget'ting a stack of files. I have tested (compiled from source with defaults) samba versions 3.0.10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 14a Versions prior to 3.0.13 are fine, in my environment, versions 3.0.13 and later are causing the problem. The basic data on my system is -a P4 3.2

Group Policies in Samba 3
Ok, I'm going kinda nuts... I have a samba 3 + openldap domain, which works great for authentication, etc. I am trying to use the NTConfig.POL to enforce policies on a mix of 98/win2k and XP boxes. This is a K12 environment, so I need very restrictive policies for students, less so for teachers and staff. What seems to be happening, at least with the XP clients is that it gets the
