force create mode / force directory mode in 3.0.13 behavior changed?
... as in they dont appear to be forcing anymore anymore ? =) I've tried on two seperate machines, slightly different configs but same statements in the stanza I was testing... Trying to force 750/640 and it appeared to work quite nicely in the past.. No other mode statements around, and according to docs, force does a bitwire OR on the mode, no AND or masking. Still, with 750/640 forced,

Problem changing password - Samba 3.0.13
First thank you to the team for the Samba software. I have been using this on a number of sites with excellent results and very few problems over the years. I have just upgraded two sites to Samba 3.0.13 from 3.0.11. Both sites are small and use smbpasswd as the password db backend. Since the upgrade I am unable to change a users password (as root) using smbpasswd. There are two reported

Roaming profiles question
I have Samba 3.014a running. If I use the standard profiles definition: [profiles] path = /opt/samba/profiles writeable = yes browseable = no create mode = 0600 directory mode = 0700 then everything works fine. But changing just the path to path = /home/%U/profiles breaks it completely. I can curious why this doesn't work. The user that is logging in owns their

Lock accounts with SAMBA
Hi, I'm a busy sysadmin locking and unlocking user accounts. I'd like to be able to do it from my linux -kerberos enabled samba workstation. I can easily use net commands to see if a user's account is locked in the ADS. How do I actually lock it from within samba. I've written a user management system at the school that does lots of things, I'd like it to be able to do

System Imaging
I am using Samba 3.0.20pre1 as a DC and I want to know if there is something similar to Deep Freeze www.faronics.com (except open source) for Linux. Deep Freeze automatically compares the software installation on a client machine to an image on a server. If the client machine differs, the client is automatically synced with the server. I want to achieve this with Samba and a linux tool if

OS X Server and Duplication
One question and a comment--- Is it possible to setup a G4 X Server into a duplicating server for my k12 LDAP Server? If not, what are the steps to creating a duplication server for my LDAP server using a PC. I am fairly new to LDAP, and as I play around with it more I am understanding the way it functions. But I am a bit confused about duplication server. As I understand it, a duplication

Auto-Extracting/expanging ISO images
Perhaps a bit off-topic, but figured this might be a good question to pose to the list before I go off re-inventing the wheel again... Has anyone, or does anyone know of, a way to directly mount or utilize and iso image file as a filesystem? I'd like to use samba to create a series of shares based on ISO images; assuming one can mount an ISO image file one could in theory serve windows

Problems saving Excel sheets using Office 97 on a Samba share
Hey all, We're having some trouble saving Excel documents on our Samba Fileserver. We are moving people over to our Samba box, and have moved most of our documents over. Now, we have people opening their Excel documents, but are unable to save them. When something is saved, we see this message: Your changes could not be saved to 'document.xls', but were saved to a temporary document

windows /bat script question
Subject isn't exactly samba, but samba people usually know a lot about windows bat scripting. Here's my problem: Currently our domain login script is doing this (among other things): ifmember.exe "WINDOWS-DOMAIN\Projects" if errorlevel 1 ( net use p: \\server1\projects ) This works fine. The problem is I'm moving the projects storage to a different server called server 2

Obtaining log level 10 for just specified user(s) (MS Word & Excel File Locking issue - still)
Is it possible to make samba produce a log at level 10 for only a specified user(s), I am trying (still) to figure out why Samba processes climb to 100% CPU and the user loses connection with MS Word & Excel files being locked. Have been dealing with this issue for quite some time now, but had to put it on the back burner for a while because we had little time to deal with it. Apprently only

Logon script
Hey everybody; I've got a problem with a Windows 98 machine on my network. I use Samba as a storage server with a folder for every user. To create network drives I use a script that will be copied to the client and then executed whenever a machine logs on to the domain. So far everything works fine. The script is being executed on logon. However, the network drive can never be found

Hello, Since I upgraded my samba PDC from 3.0.11 to 3.0.13, I have some strange warnings when changing the passwords with 'smbpasswd' (it works, but gives these messages): # smbpasswd <username> New SMB password: Retype new SMB password: account_policy_get: tdb_fetch_uint32 failed for field 4 (maximum password age (seconds since 1970)), returning 0 account_policy_get:

Mirrored samba servers.
I have a customer that is using 250 gig drives for his business data. I have been using rsync to keep mirror copies of his data on a second machine. In the last 3 months I have lost 2 of four drives, the last one being the system drive. I have been doing a manual switchover. Each time rsync runs, I copy my samba conf files, passwd, shadow and group files from etc. Has anyone setup a HA

LDAP howto
Does anyone know of a good Samba-LDAP howto for Debian (Sarge) systems? I probably don't need it for my home network, but I'd like to learn how to do it anyway. My previous attempts to get it working have failed. :(
