pdbedit: importing smbpasswd to tdbsam
Hi there, I'm trying to import a smbpasswd-file into a Samba 3.0 installation on Debian Sarge using tdbsam as sole passdb backend. Copying pdbedit's documentation I used pdbedit -i smbpasswd:/root/smbpasswd.old The error message returned was tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [foo] without a primary group RID where foo is the username to be imported. This message was

Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root] without a primary group RID
OK. I've given up on using the 'net vampire' feature to suck our NT4 info. Now I want to start afresh. I've set the smb.conf file up, and run the script I found in the HTML docs to map common Windows Domain groups to unix groups. This worked OK. Now I want to create a root account so I can actually join the domain from a Windows 2000 client. When I run:

Root user problems with Samba 3.0.0beta1
Hello Anytime I try to do anything with the root user (like join the domain) or run 'net user' or 'net group' with root, when I enter the correct password, I get NT_STATUS_UNSUCCESSFUL .... I've been trying more commands, and if I run tdbedit -e=tdbsam (to export the smbpasswd to tdbsam style), I get this error : tdb_update_sam: Failing to store a SAM_ACCOUNT for [root]

Samba PDC Server Local SID, Domain SID, and GROUP RID Question
Hi, I have a question regarding an issue I am having with our new Samba PDC. We used to be running an NT domain controller and about two months ago, I made the transition to a Debian linux box running Samba. The PDC is currently running Samba 3.0.8. My samba PDC is using the tdbsam backend and, for the most part is working flawlessly. However, when using smbpasswd to add samba accounts, I

USRMGR issues, net rpc ... OK
Greetings, I have Samba 3.0.10 set up with ldapsam (OpenLDAP 2.2.13) and smbldap-tools 0.8.8, using start tls. Account info etc. is read properly from ldap, and adding/removing/modifying users with the "net" command works fine. Oddly, if I try to use USRMGR, for instance, to add a user, only the posix account gets created (by the smbldap-tools script) but the samba sam account add

Sysprep & Samba
Hi, I'm using Samba version 3.0.14a-r2 on Gentoo Linux as a PDC for a classroom environment. The server and the classroom are in different subnets, but on the same local LAN. The broadcast messages are not forwarded, so I have enabled a single machine in the classroom subnet to act as a WINS proxy. I am using Ghost to image the classroom machines which uses sysprep to prepare the

samba-3 problem joining ws to domain
Howdi, I can't add a w2k workstation to samba3 domain with my username. If I add my username to "admin users" list, then I can add the box to domain (but overritten by euid). My goal is, that joining domain can be done without using "admin users" option. Groupmapping is done and works. When machine is in domain and log in, I get full admin rights on that box. Removing the
