Struggle with Postfix/Dovecot-auth and SASL
Hi List,
I just updated an old sendmail installation to a modern postfix/dovecot system with mysql backend. Everything works fine but SMTP-AUTH fails with some clients.
The problem is, that with PLAIN (old) clients send the base64 coded form: USERNAME\0USERNAME\0PASSWORD which, as i understand dovecot interprets as MASTERUSER\0USERNAME\PASSWORD. New clients send \0USERNAME\0PASSWORD which works

AW: CentOS 5 release for IBM z/Series?
Hi dag!
Thx for your reply!
So, there will be no release in the near future of centos 5 for Z?
At the moment we got a realy small z/linux installation, but i love it.
Keeping the TCO as low as we can was necessary to satisfy the
decision-maker.
So we decided to choos a free linux distribution, centos was a good decicion
we thougt. (redhat / fedora was always my favorite flavor *g*)
It would

scp problem (openssh-2.9p2)
Hello all,
scp does not preserve links (neither soft neither hard)
It is a problem with recursive option (-r) when you met some links like
Openssh -> .
In 2.3.0p1 it failled because of too long argument.
Also I upgrade (my client an HPUX-11.0 and my server an redhat-6,2 x86)
openssh to the last release 2.9p2.
But this release create in a loop (i presume until fs full) subdirectories

ridiculous slow gigabit transfer, faster with VNC
Hi,
I have a problem with file transfers between a windows systems and unix systems.
I have one win32 desktop (intel e6400 2Gb Ram), one win32 laptop (p-m 2Ghz).
Also one linux laptop (p-m 1.4GHz) and one opensolaris desktop (intel
e4400 1GB Ram).
The two laptops have built-in 100Mbit ethernet and desktops have 1Gbit
ethernet on the motherboard. Both desktops use a Marvell Yukon.

Tape drive recommendations
Hello all.
I have 15 or so CentOS servers (now v4.4, I will upgrade them all to
5 when it comes out) and a few windows machines. I am looking to
implement a network backup solution using Amanda.
I will be backing up 200 gig or so to start, but that will grow.
Does anyone have any recommendations on tape drives that will work
"out of the box" with CentOS?
Thanks,
Joe

Double quote scp?
I've noticed that I need to double quote file names in scp:
> scp gaelicWizard:"Desktop/Picture 1.pdf" .
> scp: Desktop/Picture: No such file or directory
> scp: 1.pdf: No such file or directory
Why is this necessary? Wouldn't it be much better to have scp
communicate with its server-side counterpart with null-terminated
strings, not to have the server interpret the

Limit number of simultaneous sftp-server connections from same ip
Hello all,
I would like to ask a short question about the configuration
capabilities of sshd / sftp-server.
I want to limit the number of connections (or instances) to an
sftp-server a user can spawn from the same ip address.
The reason is that multiple connections overload by box (connection).
My first idea was to move control of sftp-server to xinetd. There I
could maintain control of such

suggestions for a "fast" fileserver - 1G / 10G - focus on smb.conf/samba
Hi,
thanks for all the feedback and topics.
May be I can/should draw a better picture of my settings and question.
We "still" use samba 3.6.9-167 from Red Hat with an openldap backend.
I tried from an older posting somewhere:
socket options = TCP_NODELAY IPTOS_LOWDELAY SO_RCVBUF=65536 SO_SNDBUF=65536
But there was no noticeable impact. The log level = 2.
Thats all I changed

Suggestion for openssh
Hi!
I do not know if it's the ideal place, but I'm sending some suggestion.
Always use openssh and its enormous features.
- I needed to create an environment with only sftp access and thus used:
- Match User suporte
ForceCommand / usr / lib / openssh / sftp-server
OK! It worked perfectly! But only sftp.
- Create an environment with only blocking the ssh, but scp and

Software RAID complete drives or individual partitions
I have been reading about software raid. I configured my first software raid system about a month ago.
I have 4 500 Gig drives configured in RAID 5 configuration with a total of 1.5TB.
Currently I configured the complete individual drivers as software raid, then created a /dev/md0 with the drives
I then created a /file_storage partition on /dev/md0.
I created my /boot / and swap partitions on

SSH Logging
Hi,
I'd like to be able to log file transfers to/from an SSH server
(both through scp and sftp-server).
Perhaps I'm not looking in the right places, but I don't see a
way of doing this in the current code. The "scponly" shell goes
some (small) way towards doing this, however, it logs patterns
rather than filenames in scp transfers. I have even less success
with sftp.

Time taken Backup using ZFS Send Receive
I have been using ZFS send and receive for a while and I noticed that when I try to do a send on a zfs file system of about 3 gig plus it took only about 3 minutes max.
zfs send application/sample at back > /backup/sample.zfs
However when I tried to send a file system that''s about 20 gig, it took almost an hour. I would had expected that since 3 gig took 3 mins, then 20 gig should

spc restarts
I was wondering why scp didn't have a restart-in-the-middle
option when transferring a large file. Isn't that something
that is supported by the underlying ssh protocol? Is there
some other program that can give me this functionality ?

compaq r4000 32 bit and 64 bit install
Gents,
I first installed the 32 bit version (as you might have read) of centos 4.2,
after downloading x86_64 the install process/progress is about the same.
going VERY slow...
The screen for formatting the partitions took a LONG time
(3 partitions 10 GIG, 2 GIG swap and 50 GIG).
While on that screen and moving the mouse it lagged big time and
could not keep up.
Anyway just reporting that so far
