Trusted domain problem (maybe networking)
Hello, I have spent the afternoon learning how to configure my routers to allow directed-broadcast with an access list, so that I can allow two different domains on different subnets to trust each other. Now I can do a broadcast ping from either subnet to the other, and I can also do smbclient -L <remote_pdc> and get the shares, from one side. From the other side I cannot. Let me

Interdomain trust problem
Hi all, I have two different domains. At one point I had them trusting eaach other but then I ruined it. Now I am trying to get them back. They both have LDAP backend. I need them bot to trust each other and be trusted by each other. Here are the steps I am following: 1. On each domain, create a computer account called the other domain: CORP: smbldap-useradd -ai FURN$ CORP:

Issue with two domains in one LDAP tree
Hi, I've just moved a second Samba domain to LDAP -- it works great! However, the first domain is now dead in the water. It refuses to autenticate, and from the logs it looks like it's not find the SambaDomainName entry in the LDAP tree. Here is a diagram of how my LDAP tree is set up. dc=mycompany,dc=com |___ ou=computers |___ ou=people |___ ou=groups |___ sambaDomain=domain1 |___

Migrate from two domains to one
Hi all, I have two different domains right now, separated by a T1. They both use the same LDAP server (on this side of the T1). CORP is the domain with more users, and FURN has only a handful of users. But right now FURN has its own PDC which is storing all of the users' profiles and home directories as well as some other files. I would like to merge those users into the CORP domain,

NetBIOS across subnets
Hi all, I would like two Samba servers to be able to talk to each other via NetBIOS. The problem is that they are on two different subnets. I have enabled broadcast ping on the routers, and the servers can each ping the other subnet with no trouble. The two relevant IPs are 192.168.1.101 and 192.168.2.3. There is a T1 between two Cisco routers, and IP routing is all set up. Currently

"net setlocalsid" question
Hi, I'm a tad confused about something. I've got a production instance of Samba running. I am trying to get a test version running on the same box, with the same SID. Without the test server running, I used "net setlocalSID <oldsid>" (the net binary is the one for the new server). Then when I issued 'net getlocalsid' it returned it. I thought I was fine.

One DC cannot authenticate off of another DC
Thank you, Louis, for your reply. By simply asking me to provide outputs of the aforementioned files, I found the cause of my first problem (auth failing). It was my /etc/hosts file on dc1. All of them should look like this, and indeed DC2 and DC3's *did* look like this: # cat /etc/hosts > 127.0.0.1 ? ? ? localhost.samdom.mycompany.net ?localhost > 192.168.3.201

DLZ Backend DNS Hosed
I've been working on this problem for a few hours. Here are some updates: Many of the domains I listed are duplicates of domains managed by other DNS servers on my network. There was no point in having them in Samba AD, so I deleted the zones in Windows DNS Manager and created slaves in my named.conf.local folder, so that they'd pull the records from my authoritative BIND DNS server,

DLZ Backend DNS Hosed
Louis, I appreciate your efforts with my predicament. I'm very sorry to say that your advice hasn't gotten me to a solution. After updating my /etc/network/interfaces to put my localhost IP address first (192.168.3.201, for example), saving, restarting services, rebooting, running "samba_upgradedns --dns-backend=BIND9_DLZ", saving, rebooting, etc., I still cannot add, edit or

Windows 2008R2 AD, kerberos, NFSv4
Hi, I'm trying to set up NFSv4 on two boxes (centos 5.5) and have it authenticate against our Windows 2008R2 AD server acting as the KDC. (samba/winbind is running ok with "idmap config MYCOMPANY: backend = rid" so we have identical ids across the servers.) I can mount my test directory fine via NFSv4 *without* the sec=krb5 option. However, once I put the sec=krb5 option in,

NTP doesnt work for Win2000 clients + Samba 4.0.4 (see tcpdump)
Hi all, I am using Samba 4.0.4 as AD DC on my test environment and realized that all my W2k clients (default installation, no special setups made on the clients) cannot receive the correct time of my samba 4.0.4 AD domain controller. Windows XP and 7 work fine though. The problem occurs at three W2k test clients I tried with. The default behavior of Windows clients is to use the update type

newbie questions: different domains in Samba?
Hi, I'm having a basic question. I want to use my notebook at the office as well as at home. Win2K is configured to log into a NT domain MYCOMPANY. My Samba server is configured to run as NT domain HOME. Since I don't have rights to "add a workstation" in the MYCOMPANY domain I understand that can't switch my local configuration to something different then MYCOMPANY because

Every user in LDAP queried when one user logs on.
Hi I have configured a machine to authenticate against LDAP. When I log onto the box using the newly created user I see a LDAP search request for every user that exist in the directory. If I have only 20 users even a 100 that is not a problem but when I start going to 10000 users I start getting some weird errors and timeouts because of the time it takes to download the data to the client. Samba / cups problem
Hi all, I have set up a printer in cups and I can see it with lpstat -a, and I can print to it. I put what I thought was the appropriate stuff in smb.conf, and yet no printer shows up to the NT client I'm testing with, or in smbclient -L output. Any ideas at all? Here is the relevant info: ### smb.conf excerpts ### [global] ... printing = cups printcap name = cups printcap cache
