Compile on RHAS/RHEL3?
List,

pdbedit - question on migration
question on pdbedit - when using it for a migration - existing data is
stored in tdbsam.
pbdedit -i tdbsam -e ldapsam
It wants to take existing machine accounts and put them into an
ou=Computers. I'd rather it put them in ou=People.
Samba version is 3.09

net command replacements for smbldap-tools
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
I sure would like to see a series of net commands that could replace
smbldap-tools. Wouldn't this be more appropriate for administration?

Samba/LDAP documentation
List, documenters;
I'd like to exchange notes about the official Samba 3 LDAP doco.
I'd like to do this off list, since doing it on list would simply confuse
and confound users wit perfectly working systems.
Background:
Me, Samba relative newbie, though I can get *everything* Samba-orientated
to work simply by using umpteen years Unix experience. Many years as
Openldap admin. With

Pam mkhomedir - Permissions
I would like to set special permissions (ACL) when pam autocreates my
home dirs in samba. I think i should use a script for that. My question
is: how can I make pam run a bash script after it creates the homedir?
Thanks

Samba and Windows ACL Issue
Hi all got a bit of and odd problem with ACL. Ive read up on a few bits in
the samba howto and read some threads on here about it.
Im not sure if this is a bug, something ive not done, doing wrong etc so
anyone that could shed some light on it that would be great.
Basically the windows box handles all user account processing and during
creating a script for all this it will attempt to change the

List,
Thanks tremendously to JC and JHT for guiding (nay, kicking) me
toward getting ACLs to work on RHAS3. Reading the RH sysadmin guide
about ACLs and searching elsewhere, as well as thinking for myself,
were also a pre.
Now for something completely different:

Request to update slapd.conf and OpenLDAP info for Samba-Guide/happy.html
Dear Team,
The OpenLDAP stuff on this page:
http://us4.samba.org/samba/docs/man/Samba-Guide/happy.html
is not the preferred backend, i.e. ldbm, it really, really needs to be bdb.
See:
http://www.openldap.org/faq/index.cgi?_highlightWords=bdb%20ldbm&file=1085
"ldbm uses a neutral storage interface which in principle could wrap dbm,
ndbm, gdbm or sleepycat as underlying storage;

SIGUP? Losing Share
Hello,
I'm new to the list and pretty much a newbie to linux and samba. I'm
quick learner though. I have been losing my samba share upon ocasion
recently, below is a portion of the syslog from the time period that I
think is when the share goes down. A reboot of the server or a restart
of the smbd fixes the problem (....until it happens again)
I don't know what SIGUP is or why

Sarbanes-Oxley headaches
Hi there,
With the new scrutinization by auditors on account policies and
auditing, how can Samba be SOX compliant?
Using 3.0.14a-sernet on Suse 9.1 - ldapsam
Specifically, a couple of things seem to be lacking:
1) Logon/Logoff times are not being recorded
The last logon time recorded in my ldap entries are pre-nt4 migration.
2) Do the Audit Policy values in user manager have any effect?

Samba 3.0 PDC + LDAP: Workstation account disappearing
Hello,
I've a Debian 3.1 box with Samba 3.0.9 acting as a PDC with OpenLDAP
2.1.30, smbldap-tools 0.8.5, libnss-ldap version 220-1.
The problem is this:
Yesterday suddenly a user from a workstation already joined to the
domain could not log on any more.
The log message was:
Workstation HPDX02$: no account in domain
Digging into LDAP I've found that the entry in the LDAP DB exists (I

Can anyone suggest any apps/scripts for bulk generating passwords from

LDAP mailing list for ldapsam people
People,
I came to Samba 3 or 4 weeks ago and now have a successful ldapsam 3.0.11
PDC installation for 1150+ users (around 80 Win 2000 and XP workstations)
running together with a DHCP server as an "afterthought" service on a
RHAS3 NAS server.
I adopted/adapted my already existent Openldap (2.2.17) DSE at that site)
and wrote to this list about my experiences. For example I

wrong, ACL problems and more.

Group Policies in Samba 3
Ok, I'm going kinda nuts...
I have a samba 3 + openldap domain, which works great for
authentication, etc.
I am trying to use the NTConfig.POL to enforce policies on a mix of
98/win2k and XP boxes. This is a K12 environment, so I need very
restrictive policies for students, less so for teachers and staff.
What seems to be happening, at least with the XP clients is that it gets
