FreeBSD: Changing UNIX password - Password Chat?
I can't get my Samba PDC (FreeBSD 7,0-BETA3) changing UNIX passwords from Windows clients (Ctrl-Alt-Del). I now have the password chat debug active and I have loglevel 100. I am not certain about the syntax in the password chat. But if I from a console try to change the password of a given user (here testuser1), I see these lines: mflserver3# /usr/bin/passwd testuser1 Changing local password

Result of "net rpc user info" differents from "net ads user info"?
I have tried for several accounts (below is one of them), "net ads" always reports less 1 item than "net rpc"? (The result of "net rpc" is same with the AD's setting) Any hints? Thanks in advance. use linux user account information on samba
Dear list, I am having real trouble using the linux authentication system with samba. I have a configured kerberos and ldap server and authenticate in linux using nslcd. nfs4 works fine in the linux world. Unfortunately, I am forced :( to have some windows machines which are supposed to connect to linux fileservers. If I understand correctly, I can use sssd on the samba ad domain controller to

Newbie question, authentication with UNIX accounts, not smbusers/smbpasswd
Hi all, I would like to access my RedHat Enterprise box which has Samba 3.0.9, by mapping a network drive from WinXP and specifying the UNIX account/password on the server. Is this possible? I can duplicate account usernames/passwords into smbusers/smbpasswd, but doing this for every user is a pain. Thanks in advance for any suggestions or pointers, Phil

use linux user account information on samba
Hi, Thank you for the quick reply. I have gone through the samba wiki in particular the section on nslcd with kerberos, all the setup of dc and member server to no avail. Nothing is obviously wrong for example "getent passwd" gives me all the linux users nd also the Samba users with "DOMAIN\username" names. Now if I do: smbclient //server/netlogon -U"linux_user" -c

smbclient -c options
I'm trying to get a recursive file listing with smbclient: smbclient //host/share -Uusername%password -c "ls -alFR" But I get an error: NT_STATUS_NO_SUCH_FILE listing \-alFR Evidently, smbclient thinks I'm asking for a file mask. Is there a way to get a recursive file listing on a samba share so I can pipe it to wc -l for a file count? Ideally, I'd like to: (This won't

Can't connect Windows 7 client to Samba 3.3.12 on AIX
This samba is scheduled for upgrade. We've been testing samba 4.3.8 packages (from BULLFreeware) on other AIX. It was not easy the install, even with RPM packages. I hope to do the upgrade soon, but I need to have this particular user working now. What puzzles me is that I have other windows 7 PCs happily working on the same resource. 2017-01-04 16:21 GMT-03:00 Rowland Penny via samba

Share authentication problem
Hi Rowland, Thank you very much for your help! The main problem was fixed today - and i have to apologize for bothering sambalist because it was an error40 (40cm in front of the PC). In my test enviroment, there was still an old, non-existing SID on the domdata share, however - after deleting the access permissions in Windows and adding new, everything goes fine now. logon only if machine account exists ???
Hello, I wonder if there is a way to restrict access to the domain (3.0.9) by machines, not by ip, somehow it should work with the shared secret, or machine password.... IP and MAC restriction could be passed by easily... Does anybody know how to achieve that. Kelly

Duplicate/No users in LDAP?
Hello, as I continued exploring Samba 3.0.4 as a PDC, I managed to get roaming profiles up ... Saving changes worked out fine. I logged in as TheUserWithUID=0 ... and tried to add a user.
