Transport endpoint not connected
Well, I WAS puzzled by this persistent error. Then I stumbled onto something and I might have fixed it. It looks like with an XP client, XP might be trying to renegotiate which port to talk (445 or 139) over at the start of every transaction. Whichever one answers first is used for the rest of the transfer. I added this to smb.conf and restarted samba: smb ports = 139 I can't tell if

Copy to 3.0.9-2.3-SUSE dies after 1.2 gb copied
I have Samba 3.0.9 on SuSE 9.2 on a P-III-500 with only 352mb of RAM. The share I'm copying to is on a SCSI RAID array handled by a Compaq Smart-2/P RAID Controller (rev 04) as identified by lspci. The RAID is all LVM and the share is ReiserFS-- maybe not the best choice for something which is so slow to write to. Anyhow, the problem is that when I copy to the share "movies" it

AD login strangeness
Dear list readers - I have been googling for an answer for sometime now and have come up with nothing that is seemingly helpful but I need to correct an error. I have a samba server running on a Solaris 8 server and a month ago setup a domain user the rights to access it, using her AD credentials to authenticate and get into the share. Today, I get an email from her stating that it no longer

I can't connect to it from clients on ggg.hhh. smb.conf has hosts deny = all hosts allow = localhost, aaa.bbb., ggg.hhh. The client can successfully 'ping mysambaserver' (resolves to aaa.bbb.ccc.ddd). Doing 'net view \\mysambaserver' fails with

Logging denied connections from outside LAN
Greetings - I have an interesting issue that I am trying to understand. This may not be a direct Samba related issue, but the results of the issue are showing up in the Samba log, so I thought I would start here. Please direct me elsewhere if there is a better forum for this question. I have spent some time Googling and have a small understanding of what is going on, but now my Google-fu

matchname messages filling logs - howto stop?
Listmates, I have had a few boxes where the 'matchname' message is filling my syslog with one new message ever ~40 seconds or so. No performance problems, just the log annoyance. An example of the messages are: Jan 11 13:43:03 nemesis smbd[2246]: [2010/01/11 13:43:03, 0] lib/util_sock.c:1685(get_peer_name) Jan 11 13:43:03 nemesis smbd[2246]: Matchname failed on Adrienne-PC.rbpllc.com

One account can access samba, another can't.
My wife and I each have our own workstation dual-booting WinXP and Gentoo Linux. We also have a third which runs Gentoo all the time. I wanted to set up samba on the third box and provide some extra storage space for both our Windows installs. It worked for a few days, then all of a sudden it stopped letting my account (michael) in while still letting my wife's account (amy) use the share.
