Can connect directly, but not browse samba server from Windows Workgroup network
Dear Samba gurus, I have a Fedora 8 linux server, running samba 3.0.28a-0.fc8. I am doing the simplest thing of all - exposing a public read-only share within MS Workgroup environment. My server has a fixed local IP address (192.168.1.200) and it's on the same subnet as the rest of the machines. The server and machines are connected to a 24 port CISCO switch. My problem is that I can

strange behavior maybe dependent on valid users
Hi! My problem: I have a network with many workgroups and my samba server 3.0alpha21cvs is the only member of one of that workgroups. If I went to the network neighborhood and tried to open the workgroup of my samba server I got an error message saying that the workgroup "mygroup" was not available. So I minimized the settings in the global section of my smb.conf and I was able to

(continued) Can I browse the network through PPP?
Hi, first of all, my apologies for the very technical and long nature of this message... I still do not give up with the problem I am having about not being able to browse the Network Neighborhood sometimes. My original post to the list was: >I am using Windows 95 dial-up networking to connect to a Samba box (the >Samba box is a PPP server). I am having problems to browse the Network

No print to Samba (Linux) printer from Win98 - SOLVED.
I now have the deskjet print printing from my Win98 box. Something in the "hpdeskjet" entry was causing the error of "No machine name found" to appear when I tried to print from Win98. I fixed this by deleting the entry and re-creating it. I also specifically added allowed IP addresses instead of using "all" in the config file. I created a generic text printer

Hi All, Due to a hard-disc crash, I have just upgraded from a working Samba setup running in FC2 to a non-functional Samba setup running in FC3. Samba is fully up2date from the FC3 repositories. smb.conf [global] workgroup = MYGROUP server string = Samba Server hosts deny = ALL hosts allow = 192.168.1.0/24 127.

Import from Evolution
I need to import the mail database generated by the evolution mail reader into dovecot. Evolution stores its mail in maildir format (fully standards compatible, I think); I would be using the maildir format in dovecot. Is there anything in the wiki, etc. explaining exactly how to do this? Why do this? Evolution is hopelessly broken, and is not likely to be fixed in the forseeable future, and

Lastest upgrade of smb on RedHat doesn't work
The latest upgrade of from samba 3.0.9 to samba 3.0.10 has caused problems on my samba server. On the Windows computers you can no longer see the WINS server ( the RedHat server) in the Network Neighborhood, say server1. The printers that we have added through the network neighborhood no longer work. One has to search for the full name of the server ( server1.xxx.xxx.edu) with the

Help! Can browse from one subnet but not another.
I'm having some difficulties setting up browsing across networks and domains and was hoping some of you folks out there could help. We have two domains on two physically separate networks, connected via a firewall/router. To my knowledge the firewall system is not set to block anything between the two segments, just to route them. Network 192.168.18.0, CH domain 192.168.18.14 ch1 (rh7.3, CH
