Can set ACLs great from Windows, but see only SIDs when i reopen them
Good morning, Samba List,
I'm setting ACLs from the security tab of the properties window of a folder
via a Windows XP SP2 client. The Samba share in question is running on
3.0.11 with an ext3 file system and Fedora Core 3 underneath. All this
works great -- I can set up ACLs beautifully from Windows and when I check
them out with getfacl on the Linux side, the results make sense to me.

ACL Question [Repost]
OK so I've got samba-3.0.11 compiled with ACL support. I've running
2.4.25 with the ACL/ATTR patch applied. I can read and set ACLS's using
the getfacl/setfacl programs. ldd /usr/sbin/smbd shows it's linked to
libattr.so.1 and libacl.so.1. I can read ACL with the smbcacls program,
but when I try to set them I get:
ERROR: Unable to open credentials file!

To anyone successfully using NT ACLs with Samba
When you re-open the properties of an existing file or
directory with ACLs set on it from a Windows workstation, do
you see the usernames and group names properly? Or do you see
SIDs in the dialog box as I do? Just gathering data. If you are
seeing usernames and group names properly I'd love to see
your smb.conf file. In my case, the Samba server is an
AD domain member.

Can I recommend theora to my readers yet? Please?
Hi,
I'm working on updates to the WWW FAQ (okay, it's a little much
to use the singular in 2006, but it was the first!).
Embedded multimedia has been a sore spot for a while. I've been
recommending that people embed old-school MPEG, because it
works in all players. But it's awful. Terrible bitrates.
I'm on the verge of recommending SWF instead, even though
it's a hideous

Understanding Samba 4's features and goals
Hi folks,
I'm the co-author of "Windows and Linux Integration," a recent
Sybex/Wiley title. So I'm very much interested in what's coming
next in the Samba world. And I've been watching the Samba 4
'technology releases" with interest.
One nifty feature that I like a lot: the old options that specified
many confusing types of server behavior have been replaced

windbind stopped working
I recently upgraded my PDC's and BDC's to 3.0.14a but my member servers
are still running 3.0.10. Today users complained that the couldn't
logon to the member server. When I try to run a wbinfo -u I get:

Here's the log.windbindd:

Smbclient - protocol negotiation failed
Hi
I just built samba 3.0.11 RPM's from the SRPM provided on samba.org. I'm
using Fedora 1, 2.4 kernel.
smbclient is causing me an unusual problem. When I start smbd and nmbd
and issue: smbclient -d3 -L localhost, I see the following:
smbclient -d3 -L localhost
lp_load: refreshing parameters
Initialising global parameters
params.c:pm_process() - Processing configuration file

Greetings, Do you guys know what normally causes this? - Google has a lot of instances of the issue but no resolutions. I'm running FBSD 5.4 with the latest samba.

smbclient connect problem
I've tried everything I can think of, but still cannot
connect to a Windows 2000 share using smbclient. I
know the shared directory is set up OK because I can
get to it with another Windows box. My smbclient
command line should be OK because the same syntax
works on another Linux box at work (running a slightly
older version of smbclient) to a similarly setup
Windows box. This is what I get

Can't connect from Windows
I am setting up my first 3.0.1 installation. I am using Slackware 9.1, I am
trying to connect to a Windows 2000 Server. I do not need active directory
support (as far as I know). The server's function is a file server. So
Users need seamless authentication... of course. I do not have LDAP
installed. It's a plain server besides the 3ware RAID.
I compiled and installed samba 3.0.1,

I have Suse 9.1 + Samba 3.0.9 + winbind joined to a Windows

reason (appears to be Win2K issue) connections to Samba and
the ability to browse the domain "MyCompany" from Win2K/XP
workstations failed but connections to the public share
offered by the Win2K server were OK. Also, all Win98

What is WERR_ACCESS_DENIED
Hi,
I searched through the list archives and saw this question asked but not
answered, so I'm hoping someone can help me.
I am trying to use rpcclient to set a printer driver and it's failing
with the error message: WERR_ACCESS_DENIED. I've included the full
output of the command at debug 4 level below.
Here's the probably pertinent information. First, this use to work.

Problem using rpcclient as root user -- can't authenticate
I'm a Samba-3 newbie (all my previous experience is with Samba-2), and
that may by the crux of the problem.
Samba 3.0.14a-2 came bundled with Fedora Core. Since this server will
be taking over the functions of the Samba-2, I copied the smb.conf file
over and simply changed the netbios name. It uses a domain security
model, and that has not changed. Also, using the rpc net command, I
