Samba.. not worth a f*** for printing
Gotta love these people that appreciate all the effort the developers put in when clearly they are click and grunt experts who can't be bothered reading a manual. We got samba going and migrated a test bunch towards it printing on about 60 printers. HP drivers work a treat when it came to setting our A4 size paper but some printer drivers like Panasonic and Epson have crappy setup.exe

Winbind & ssh
Hi All, I've got winbind happening and can telnet into the box using my NT account (have manually made home directory) and it works a treat. When I try to ssh in I get access denied. As you can see from the log winbind is granting access but it seems that sshd is blocking access before winbind can get to it? That's a guess of course. Any ideas? Matthew

Slow Samba transfer
Hi, this is my first pos here, please be lenient. My problem shuld be a FAQ and, in fact I found a lot of references googling around, but nothing could really solve my problem, so here I am. I have a Samba server: Very basic wheezy amd64 installation on a small VIRTUAL server (Xen). Only fancy thing is direct access to a couple of RAID1 (mirror) arrays where data is stored. I normally access

Add a public ssh key form node A to authorized keys on node B
With the risc I ask a queston answered a hunderd times before (which I couldn''t find)... On node A I want to create a ssh key. For this I exec a ssh-keygen. Now I want the generated public key added to the authorized key file of node B. Probably I need the ssh_authorized_key resource for this. But then I need the public key of node A as a string in node B. I can''t see how to

How to keep idmapping, when Samba servers becomes part of a Windows AD from a larger organisation.
Hi Since 2006, I used in my departement a Samba solutions based on NT4 style PDC, 2 BDCs and some files servers, desserving one hunderd persons. The backends for passwords and idd are a master and two slave openldap. Now i have to integrate a much larger organisation, an University Hospital, running with Windows AD. For political reasons, I should not maintain DCs anymore, but I will still

MYOB guru in the house?
Hi All, We have just moved a client from winblows 2000 to samba server and they are having some teething problems with MYOB Premier version 7.5 and speed of access. They swear and declare that exaclty the same server box is slower running samba 3.0.3 (fedora core 2) than winblows 2000 server file sharing. It's definintly just samba because everything else is running sweet (with the

User controlled i/o block size?
I'm just doing a local copy: rsync -avp --progress <source_dir> <dest_dir> The source and dest are on different spindles. Some of my copies are a TB or more (I just started one that is 1.5 TB). It is my assumption (possibly faulty) that rsync is more robust for handling any aborted copies that have to get restarted after the copy failed, thus my preference for rsync. 3

Use of qcdisc+htb
Hi folks. This message may be a bit verbose and not as techie as the ones I''ve seen in this list, but describing the scenario will save a lot of messages. Scenario: A building with 17 floors, each floor with 24 offices (totals 408 offices) connected to the backbone through a border switch (1 vlan for each office). The offices can lease bandwidth of 64k, 128k, 256k, 512k, 1M and 2Mbps,

User controlled i/o block size?
All, One big thing I failed to mention is I was running rsync inside a cygwin windows 8.1 setup. I moved it to a linux box and the behavior is much better. I get a nice smooth 85-90 MB/sec. That might be the max speed of the source drive. I'd still like a way to improve rsync's performance in cygwin, but I can understand it is a low priority. Thanks Greg -- Greg Freemyer

Reproducible samba bug with directory name
I just recreated this bug in samba-3.0.26a-3.3. It is as simple as creating a directory named "F-08-6104 International Management Assoc." (without the quotes), then looking at the name of the directory via XP. I've done it twice now: OpenSUSE 10.2 + Samba 3.0.23d-19.7 + XFS, all from Novell OpenSUSE 10.3 + samba-3.0.26a-3.3 + XFS, all from Novell With both I get the same wrong

Re: Manually running dispatch.fcgi fails (Please help!!)
I''m really lost on this issue. Do I need to reinstall rails / gems? The rest of my rails setup seems to be working. I just can''t run dispatch.fcgi. (Details in original message below). I have no idea how to troubleshoot this. I''m not even positive it is supposed to be runnable from the command line. I found a troubleshooting guide that implied it was supposed to

Client ... has fallen too far behind, removing - but only when listening to a relay, not when listening to fallback
I have an icecast server (B) which relays another icecast server (A). Server B is configured to play a local fallback file when server A is unavaliable. Both are version 2.3.3 When I listen to server B (the relay), while server A is turned off, all works fine ie I can listen to the fallback track without problem. However if I listen to Server B while server A is running then I quickly get: INFO

You as the administrator are responsible for creating a backup mechanism that = captures the Samba ACL info. That is easy if you are happy with doing a full share backup/restore, but if = you want to be able to

Edge Rails idea -- was [DRY relative to edit and show]
Just got around to understanding your idea Rich. Your idea seems to apply to every controller with new/edit/show views, so I think this is a better idea for the edge rails folks to implement generically than for a newbie like me do as a one-off. Thanks Greg On 12/23/05, Rich Clingman <Rich-xT5DcnBKZlNBDgjK7y7TUQ@public.gmane.org> wrote: > > > It would be nice if rails had a

User controlled i/o block size?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 You didn't say if you were networking or what features of rsync you are using but if you aren't networking and aren't doing anything fancy you are probably better off with cp -au which is essentially the same as rsync -au except faster. Anyways, smaller reads and writes are usually better handled by the OS's caches than really big

User controlled i/o block size?
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 In that instance you would need to delete the incomplete file. The same would happen if you used -u on rsync but -u is cp's only method of avoiding files that are already there. Rsync resource consumption, whilst building a large file list
I need to rsync a large collection of files (images) that number in the 1000's. We have 2 repositories, one was mass-copied recently, the other has since had updates performed. The initial copy took over 5 hours to complete ;-) What we want is only to update the destination (old) copy with newer files, delete anything that shouldn't be there. What I'm trying to determine is

search plugin?
All, I know there are 3 or 4 search plugins out there. I''m trying to find one that will allow me to search associated fields. My database content is pretty small, so efficiently is not so critical. On the other hand I have ton of :belongs_to type fields, so I need something that works well with the Rails models. Any recommendations? == Example of what I need to work Assume I have a
