Resource deadlock avoided
Hi guys,
How are you keeping ?
I use 'smbmount' and a custom script to mount remote shares from Windows desktops and back them up to a Linux server.
Everything works great except that I get "Resource deadlock avoided" when trying to copy 'Outlook.pst'.
This of course is due to users' having their Outlook open when my backup script runs.
Is anyone aware of a way to

Weird samba problems / more info
I have a level 10 debug of the smbd/oplock process_local_message problem
but can still not figure out what causes the unknown UDP message command
code. I checked the source but could only see that this is an invalid
opcode command.
Anyone a clue what is happening here ?
Might wrong opcode commands crash samba ?

Samba + Quickbooks file problems
I updated samba to samba-2.0.7-4 (RedHat RPM). That didn't help.
I changed the file ownership to user.group from user.user. That didn't help.
I changed the file permissions to -rwxrwxr-- as you had suggested, and then
it worked.
(QuickBooks 99 needs *both* the file permissions set as noted *and* the
ownership also.)
However, when everyone closes QuickBooks the QBI file is deleted, and

oplocks, QuickBooks (Samba 3)
Hi there,
Can somebody please explain to me why Samba 3 requires 'oplocks = no' on
shares for programs like Quickbooks to operate properly with multiple
users, where Samba 2 didn't?
Without this option, Quickbooks will complain about file corruption when
a second user tries to open a file.
This option, however, makes the particular share that the option is
present in _very_ slow

Very strange ACL issue
Hello,
I upgraded from Samba 3.0.2 to 3.0.4 on my Redhat Enterprise system and am
now seeing something very strange with POSIX ACL?s. We have several shared
directories setup with per-directory group permissions (In other words each
directory has its own group in active directory). This way if we want to
give a user access to a directory we just add them to the group. After
upgrading too 3.0.4

Two major issues with Mac OS X clients
Hello,
I am having to major issues with Mac clients on our samba server. One
has to do with how the Mac vs. the PC locks files and the other has to do
with a very slow connection to one of our larger shares.
1.) File locking issue:
I am having a strange problem occur with shared excel and word files being
opened by multiple users. The problem appears to be a result of a Mac

incoherent oplock request/reply
Hello,
I'm running a samba 3.0.14a server in production on a fedora core 3 (kernel
2.6.9-1.667smp) with a least 250 clients (XP Pro SP2) (up to 400 sometimes).
A few days ago, a problem appeared with a soft that we are using for a long
time. (Petit Robert, a french dictionnary).
When someone launch the dictionnary, many clients are freezed when they try to

2.0.7: unsolicited oplock break reply
I've used
oplocks = no
for a long time now, because of the famous "oplock_break" error, but I
decided to give 2.0.7 a try.
I still get "oplock break" errors as before, but this time I got a new
error too:

oplock_break: receive_smb timed out after 30 seconds.

Unsolicited oplock breaks
Dear All,
we've been having some intermittent problems with students who's home directories are on a
Sun E450 running Samba 2.0.6. I'm not totally convinced that the problem is caused by the
server, but may be the network. However, I've had a look at the log.smb file and I'm seeing some
error messages that I've not come across before:

Directory and File Perms
I have a directory shared out via Samba for Quickbooks and seem
to have some issues with permissions. The directory being shared
is a subdirectory in an ext3 partition being mounted with the acl
option.
It has been setup as follows:
chown root:DOMAIN\AD_Group /mnt/Intuit_Data/
chmod 2770 /mnt/Intuit_Data/
And the Samba share config is has:
create mask = 0660
directory mask =

FreeBSD 4.8 / Samba 3.0.11 - more signal 11's than before... (3.0.8)
The error message is the usual panic error - 3.0.11 and FreeBSD 4.8.
Samba 3.0.8 ran fine with the same config (admittedly there were a few
roaming profile sync related crashes, which is why I was upgrading).
Now however I can't even connect - it crashes immediately, respawns and
crashes again.
My Samba server is a domain member of a Win2003 domain controller used for

We are trying to troubleshoot slow performance.

Windows 2003 and Samba 3.0.x
My Windows 2003 machines can get to shares on my older Samba servers
(2.2.8a), however on newer versions of Samba (3.0.2), I get the following
error message:

network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if
you have access permissions. The request is not supported.

Administrator-privileged logon scripts under limited mode on XP?
At our organization, we're currently gradually migrating the
workstations from Windows 98 to Windows XP, while retaining the use of
our samba server as a PDC. For those who may remember my previous post,
our upgrade to Samba 3.0.11 from an ancient version (2.2.3) I inherited
went extremely well, and I was thoroughly impressed how little I had to
change to get everything running.
Anyways,

Problem copying large file from Win2K box to Samba share on Linux box
I've got an aggravating problem as described in the subject line above.
I have a small home network with a Linux box running Samba and acting as both
local and domain master browser and WINS server. Also on the network are a
desktop PC (Dell 1.4 GHz P4) running Windows 2000 Professional and a laptop
running Windows XP Professional.
The problem occurs when I try to copy a file over 1 MB

Quickbooks 2008 - How can I get this functional?!
So, I got Quickbooks 2008 working in the latest WINE, and Ubuntu 11.04. Problems happen when I try and open an existing company file. It wants to update, and then updating fails, and then the whole shebang fails to load after that. I even tried copying the Quickbooks folder from the other system (just need to change the license) to make the updates more complete. Same exact problem. It crashes on
