Can't compile 3.01 on Solaris
I can't get 3.0.1 to fully compile on my Solaris machines(2.6 and 2.8) Below
is an example the error I am getting. Note, that it errored out earlier with
the same problem, I typed make again and it went on to the next file, got
the same error about a file with extension .o.o not existing.
The actual error:

To anyone successfully using NT ACLs with Samba
When you re-open the properties of an existing file or
directory with ACLs set on it from a Windows workstation, do
you see the usernames and group names properly? Or do you see
SIDs in the dialog box as I do? Just gathering data. If you are
seeing usernames and group names properly I'd love to see
your smb.conf file. In my case, the Samba server is an
AD domain member.

Can I recommend theora to my readers yet? Please?
Hi,
I'm working on updates to the WWW FAQ (okay, it's a little much
to use the singular in 2006, but it was the first!).
Embedded multimedia has been a sore spot for a while. I've been
recommending that people embed old-school MPEG, because it
works in all players. But it's awful. Terrible bitrates.
I'm on the verge of recommending SWF instead, even though
it's a hideous

Please check latest solaris package
Hi all,
I cannot decide, please help me:
http://www.sunfreeware.com/sparc/10/rsync-3.0.9-sol10-sparc-local.gz
I downloaded this package and installed. The command file rsync returned a strange message: can't read ELF header - otherwise the file itself is runnable and working.
Is there any way to check this file?
Thanks

Understanding Samba 4's features and goals
Hi folks,
I'm the co-author of "Windows and Linux Integration," a recent
Sybex/Wiley title. So I'm very much interested in what's coming
next in the Samba world. And I've been watching the Samba 4
'technology releases" with interest.
One nifty feature that I like a lot: the old options that specified
many confusing types of server behavior have been replaced

Unable to set ACLs with Samba 3.0.11, near publication deadline
Hello, Jeremy and Jerry,
I met both of you at LinuxWorld in Boston, where I learned tons and tons
of great stuff from your presentations.
I'm writing on deadline for publication and would really, really, really
like to show off Samba's ability to map NT ACLs to POSIX ACLs. But right
now, I can't make them work. I've spent some time on the Samba list
trying to make this work, but

Join samba to existing Windows domain
Hi,
I am running samba 3.0.14a on FreeBSD 6 box. I need this box to join to
existing Windows 2003 domain to act as a file server to serve Windows XP
clients. In the book "using samba" says to use "smbpasswd -j ..." to join
the domain. But the -j option seems didn't existing. Anyone would be able to
tell me what is the best way to make samba to join the domain?
Thanks,

Changes to HOWTO and maybe Samba Guide for Solaris patches
Sun has changed the organization of their web site a lot over the years,
and I just noticed that a URL included in the HOWTO is broken now.
Perhaps there are others as well.
In section 39.6.2 "Winbind on Solaris 9" (p. 503), Solaris 9 users
are directed to download a patch from the following URL:
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/findPatch.pl?patchId=112960;rev=14

Classifying Intertwined Spirals
I'm using an SVM as I've seen a paper that reported extremely good
results. I'm not having such luck. I'm also interested in ideas for
other approaches to the problem that can also be applied to general
problems (no assuming that we're looking for spirals).
Here is my code:
library(mlbench)
library(e1071)
raw <- mlbench.spirals(194, 2)

ACL Question [Repost]
OK so I've got samba-3.0.11 compiled with ACL support. I've running
2.4.25 with the ACL/ATTR patch applied. I can read and set ACLS's using
the getfacl/setfacl programs. ldd /usr/sbin/smbd shows it's linked to
libattr.so.1 and libacl.so.1. I can read ACL with the smbcacls program,
but when I try to set them I get:

How current is the HOWTO collection?
When a new version of Samba is posted, is the HOWTO COllection updated,
or does the Samba Team rely on the community to spot anachronisms and
report them as bugs?
I'm struggling with a new install of Samba that's more complex than
I've tried before, and I keep the two Samba dead-tree books open on my
desk -- but if the online docs in the tarball are more current than the
books,

Printing OK on 98, "Access denied" on XP Pro
I have a very simple setup on a Solaris 8 server, running Samba 3.0.1 (see smb.conf below). A desktop PC running Windows 98 (SE?) happily connects to and prints to my one shared printer, but an XP Pro laptop takes a loooong time to install the local driver and then just says "Access denied, unable to connect".
I already told it to use a client driver and disabled spoolss. Here's

Basic Sol8 compile question
I'm scratching my head, and thinking that I overlooked something: how do I tell my Sun compiler (on Solaris 8 2/02) to look for files in /usr/include, etc.?
For some reason -- a steam-rollered environment variable, I guess -- the compiler won't look there. I get lots and lots of "cannot find include file" messages whether ot not I try ot use --with-pam or --with-winbind.

Serious Slowness Issues with Printing
Samba Guru's:
I need whatever help you all can provide. I'm at my wits end here with
this problem, I've checked forums and the Samba docs and can't find
anything. Sorry if this email is long and drawn out.
