XP "logon failure" but still logs on -- no roaming profile
I'm having a problem with roaming domains on Samba v3.0-alpha21. I've
connected the machine (watertown) to the domain (precidia) via the
server (griffon). I've logged on with my userid (bcwhite) and seen
my roaming profile get created on the server upon logoff. Future logons
grab the roaming profile and everything is fine.
However, _sometimes_ I get a window with the message:

Roaming Profiles with WinXP and Samba PDC
Hello,
After a great deal of tweaking, I finally got the Samba server
working, so that it would accept domain logins. However, the problem I
now have regards roaming profiles, which refuse to function. After
successfully authenticating the user, the following 2 messages appear:

WIn XP + Samba trouble
I am trying to connect a windows xp client to a samba PDC. The user
exists on the PDC and has an entry in the /etc/samba/smbpasswd file. In
my smb.conf file, I have the following:

add machine script = /usr/sbin/useradd -d /dev/null -g machines -s /bin/false -M %u && /usr/bin/smbpasswd -m -a %u

Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot be found' loading profile
I have seen a number of postings which seem similar to the problem I am
having, but am yet to find a fix for my situation. Problem is as
follows:
- Samba 3.0.2 rpm installed on Red Hat Enterprise ES 3.0, configured as
PDC with ldapsam backend
- Windows XP Professional client joined to the Samba domain.
The XP client successfully joins the domain and can browse and access
shares (including the

XP troubles
I've recently recompiled and reinstalled the latest Samba because
the version I was running wouldn't talk to Windows XP.
It still won't. Can anyone direct me to any docs, howtos, or other
docs concerning WinXP problems?
Thanks...

XP doesn't logoff from samba domain
PDC: Samba 2.2.8a on linux 2.4.20 + XFS + ACL, rather normal configuration.
Client: Win XP Pro
When user logon to Domain, I can see him (smbstatus, utmpx). But when he
logoff, the record is still there. It disappears when I reboot the XP.
According to M$ knowledge-base the problem is that samba doesn't handle
the logoff correctly.
Do you have any solution of this?

Windows XP Profiles
Hi,
I just recently installed Windows XP on one of the
computers in my network (previously all Windows 98) which
uses Samba as a Primary Domain Controller. After making
the required changes for adding machine accounts, I am able
to log on using Samba as a PDC. My question is how to get
profiles working the way I want them to.
I would like profiles to be stored locally and

Problems with Samba 3 and XP Roaming Profiles
I've got some annoying Problems with roaming profiles. Perhaps someone is
able to help me...
I would like to use Samba as a PDC and for storing NT roaming profiles. When
I first installed Samba 3.02 and XP SP1 (Before that I used Samba 2.2.8a and
XP without SP1), XP downloaded the old profiles it found. But upon shutdown
or logoff, changes to the profiles were not written to the server. I

Windows XP with Samba Ldap.
My Ldap Admin password is correct in secrets.tdb and I can logon in Win
9x, but not in Win XP. The option "RequireSignOrSeal"= dword:00000000
is ok.
The WinXP can found the Samba Domain, but not the user/password. When I
logon in Network place the password is correct and I can view the user
files.
Any ideas why I cannot logon in Win XP ?
Thank's.

Samba as PDC with XP Client - Logon requires reboot - Help Please
Hi, I'm running the latest version of Samba with a tdbsam backend,
configured not to use roaming profiles. Two different XP clients (SP2)
are joined to the domain ok but users can only logon by rebooting before
entering their logon details. When users logoff and try to logon again
(or logon as a different user on the same machine) they get the standard

Roaming Profiles with win 98 - Doesn't work.
I would like to know if anybody on this list has managed to have a network
of 98 clients running off a samba server, and had roaming profiles, i.e.
people's settings follow them from machine to machine. I have done
everything I find in the guides, and I have no idea why the machines create
new local profiles. I've searched the net for documentation, example
websites, etc, but it seems the

Windows XP Pro, file permissions...
Don't know if this issue is Windows XP specific, or whether it's Samba
that's contributing to the problem. Running Samba 3.0.3 as a PDC on a
network of 5 Windows XP Pro workstations. They have their "important" data
stored in a file share on the server, permissions set for all of them to
access no problem.
They each also have a shared documents directory on their

Solution to XP/2000 joining Samba 2.2.x Domain Problem!
I finally found the solution that many people faced about joining a samba
2.2.x domain with XP or 2000
I've recently upgraded a Win98SE to WinXP, and attempt to join this to the
Samba Domain (of ver 2.2.2), which already have 2 Win2000 as member.
However, although the XP accept the Domain Joining, it denied me to log into
the domain after a reboot, so I tried to view the System Event in the

Samba-PDC: One fresh installed XP-Machine can't load the Profiles
Hello,
I have a Samba-PDC (Samba 3.0.23d) with a ldap-Backend.
On serveral XP-Machines I can log in with my domain-account, everything
is running fine. But one freh installed XP-Machine can't load my profile.
I can't find anything in the Logs (loglevel 5) that seems to point to
the problem of my PDC:
Can anybody help me to fix this?
