Browse list issues with Windows XP
To further the discussion (or lack thereof) of the browse list issues (systems not showing up in the browse list, even though their shares are accessable with //system/sharename) that 5 or 10 people on the list have been having over the past month or so... I was out to this client the other day, had the opportunity to try the few things that had been suggested, all to no avail. I then proceeded

WIn XP + Samba trouble
I am trying to connect a windows xp client to a samba PDC. The user exists on the PDC and has an entry in the /etc/samba/smbpasswd file. XP "logon failure" but still logs on -- no roaming profile
I'm having a problem with roaming domains on Samba v3.0-alpha21. I've connected the machine (watertown) to the domain (precidia) via the server (griffon). I've logged on with my userid (bcwhite) and seen my roaming profile get created on the server upon logoff. Future logons grab the roaming profile and everything is fine. However, _sometimes_ I get a window with the message:

XP troubles
I've recently recompiled and reinstalled the latest Samba because the version I was running wouldn't talk to Windows XP. It still won't. Can anyone direct me to any docs, howtos, or other docs concerning WinXP problems? Thanks... God's Blessings, Gene To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under heaven. Roaming Profiles with WinXP and Samba PDC
Hello, After a great deal of tweaking, I finally got the Samba server working, so that it would accept domain logins. However, the problem I now have regards roaming profiles, which refuse to function. After successfully authenticating the user, the following 2 messages appear: Message 1: ---------- Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on

Windows XP client - intermittent 'network name cannot be found' loading profile
I have seen a number of postings which seem similar to the problem I am having, but am yet to find a fix for my situation. Problem is as follows: - Samba 3.0.2 rpm installed on Red Hat Enterprise ES 3.0, configured as PDC with ldapsam backend - Windows XP Professional client joined to the Samba domain. The XP client successfully joins the domain and can browse and access shares (including the

Windows XP with Samba Ldap.
My Ldap Admin password is correct in secrets.tdb and I can logon in Win 9x, but not in Win XP. The option "RequireSignOrSeal"= dword:00000000 is ok. The WinXP can found the Samba Domain, but not the user/password. When I logon in Network place the password is correct and I can view the user files. Any ideas why I cannot logon in Win XP ? Thank's. Windows XP Pro, file permissions...
Don't know if this issue is Windows XP specific, or whether it's Samba that's contributing to the problem. Running Samba 3.0.3 as a PDC on a network of 5 Windows XP Pro workstations. They have their "important" data stored in a file share on the server, permissions set for all of them to access no problem. They each also have a shared documents directory on their

Solution to XP/2000 joining Samba 2.2.x Domain Problem!
I finally found the solution that many people faced about joining a samba 2.2.x domain with XP or 2000 I've recently upgraded a Win98SE to WinXP, and attempt to join this to the Samba Domain (of ver 2.2.2), which already have 2 Win2000 as member. However, although the XP accept the Domain Joining, it denied me to log into the domain after a reboot, so I tried to view the System Event in the

But one freh installed XP-Machine can't load my profile. I can't find anything in the Logs (loglevel 5) that seems to point to the problem of my PDC: Can anybody help me to fix this? Strange POP3 problem...
I've been having this problem for a long time now. It started when I first began to use Dovecot (0.9x) and seems to have been occurring more and more frequently as we've progressed through the betas and now into RC7. I have been kind of chaulking it up to a "user issue" since the problem only seems to occur for one user (who has one machine at his office, and one at his weekend

Windows XP connects as guest instead of letting me choose the username / password
Hi, I suspect this is more of a WinXP issue, but since it drives me mad, I'll ask anyway. What I want: In Windows XP network neighborhood, select my samba server, select one of the shares, then have a dialog asking me for the respective Samba-username & -password to access the share. What I get: I get a dialog with the username "Guest", greyed out, asking me for a

XP doesn't logoff from samba domain
PDC: Samba 2.2.8a on linux 2.4.20 + XFS + ACL, rather normal configuration. Client: Win XP Pro When user logon to Domain, I can see him (smbstatus, utmpx). But when he logoff, the record is still there. It disappears when I reboot the XP. According to M$ knowledge-base the problem is that samba doesn't handle the logoff correctly. Do you have any solution of this? -- Honza Houstek

Samba and *groan* Windows XP Home problems!
Hi, This has probably been covered before but after 4 hours of searching I'm nearly at the point of throwing my XP machine out of the window!! I have set up Samba (v 2.2.5) on my Red Hat 7.1 box. From the Red Hat box I can see all the other computers on the network (other Linux machines, Win2k, Windows ME and my Windows XP box), and get access to the shared drives on them. The linux box can

Samba + XP = no go
G'day. I'm having a great time trying to get a whole heap of XP workstations (from what I understand, they've been hotfixed+windows updated+whatever else a few days ago) to authenticate against Samba running on a FreeBSD 4.5-STABLE box. Basically, I add user accounts, machine accounts (with both "pw" and "smbpasswd"), then I can get the XP machines to successfully

XP Pro client cannot access stand-alone linux samba server
Hi, I am trying to set up my internet connection sharing linux box as a stand-alone samba server. When i try to access the server from a Windows XP Pro client using \\192.168.0.1 i get a dialog box asking for a username and password. I duly enter this and the dialog box immediately re-appears without connecting me to the share. There exists both a samba and linux account with the same
